Great and clear tips step by step. Very helpful so thank you ! I just purchased my Concept2 ERG. I am a 70 yo overweight, out of shape Deaf guy with arthritis who is unable to do many types of cardio because I have a Vestibular Balance disorder. So, hiking, walking, riding my bike don't work for me anymore. I am working on my form & technique this week, starting off slow, 10 mins twice / day. Going to start increasing each day by 1 minute / session until I can do a good solid 20 mins at decent pace. My pace now is only 20 - 24 SPM, but its only been a few days/ Thanks again for all this !

@@claudiacanales2662 I just made the purchase a couple days ago and already have a solid 2 hours in and feel every bit of it, WOW you get a work out, just put on a show or music and row away, I like to add a bit of difficulty the last 60 seconds or so, i row as fast and safe as possible that last 60. Super happy with my purchase and have done a lot of research on the subject the key is to use your machine!

I’m a 65 year-old male. I have been using a treadmill for years. I came across an ad for a water rower and was ready to buy one. I did some more research and decided to go with the Concept2. I received it today and did my first 30 minute workout. I have never rowed before. Before I received it I googled how to use the Concept2 and found this video. Thank you so much Cassi. You made my workout a lot easier.

Just joined a gym in Englewood (basically Denver area) Colorado 5 weeks ago. I'm 64, had surgery to repair meniscus tears in my knees back in 2007, so basically have limited my exercise to riding my mountain bike. I definitely know my way around a gym but, have been away for about 10 years. I noticed there are 2 Concept rowing machines in the gym and was smart enough to find you on the web explaining how to use this marvelous machine. At 6' I am about 20 pounds over weight. Combining free weight routines and rowing I have lost 2 pounds so far. Working also on my eating habits as well. When I started to row I could go for about 3 minutes. I went up to 5 minutes and now typically can row 10 minutes on setting 5. This of course is mixed in with doing various free weight exercises. I seem to be leaning to spending more time on the machine and will work towards going distances more instead of time. I'm very smooth on it and your tips have really made a difference with my efficiency and endurance. I feel really great after I finish rowing. I have noticed not many people use the machines. They do not know what they are missing. I honestly hope someone askes me about rowing there. If so I will steer them your way. Thanks Cassi!

In my opinion, when backing, with arms outstretched, as soon as the hands pass a little more from the knees, the legs have to start to shrink and not wait as you do until the hands are almost at the height of the ankles, as you do. On the other hand, it is good to comment that the handle does not grip, it is held, with the thumbs down, without making force with the hands, so as not to pass the tension to the arms and to the back, this consumes energy.

And yet the real power stroke at 4:16 does not quite match the earlier idealized pattern - the demonstrator's spine is already tilting back past vertical before the legs are fully extended. The three "separate" parts of the power stroke actually overlap when a rower gets going.
