How to use Chauvet Foot-C 2 with Chauvet 4bar and 4bar Flex

Ойын-сауық

In this video I describe how configure a Chauvet Foot-C 2 with a 4bar and 4bar Flex. One of the things I was having trouble finding an answer to online was what to do if your light has more DMX channels than your DMX controller can support. In this case the 4bars are 15 channels but the Foot-C says it only is compatible with lights that have 6 channels. This video demonstrates a work around for this situation and also explains how to save scenes into the Foot-C.

I just got one of these. Watched your video last week before I ordered it. Man, you saved me a ton of time because I have 4, 8, and 12 channel fixtures. It took me a little while to make my own fixture profile cheat sheet, but holy cow, I can fly programming scenes and chases. I like how this pedal allows you to easily add or delete steps from a chase. Gonna make my band’s stage show so much better, thanks to you sir.

Nice because of this video I am buying the pedal. I have the exact same lights as you. I went through 2 pedals that came with both lights.

Hey AJ, thanks so much for the tip on expanding the usable channels utilizing the fixture buttons. I'm running a Gigbar Move and a few pars with my Foot C2, and I couldn't figure out how to control it in 17 channel mode. I even emailed Chauvet, and they told me the Foot C2 didn't have enough channels to do it! I think I can get it to do exactly what I want using your advice.

Ok I figured it out. wow, what a play on channels and each pod to control. I can see why people get frustrated LOL.

Thanks, thinking of buying but am a DMX newbie - I'm not afraid of tech, but don't have a clue about DMX. I think I may very buy this though. Thanks for doing this.

Great vid man! I did one of the first vids on the original Foot-C, but I really didn't have this insight to answer that question on high channel number fixtures. I use sets of pars/washes/bars, and waste quite a few channels in between. Still use mine at every gig!

Thanks Matt! Your video was very helpful for me while I was researching and definitely helped with my confidence to move forward with my purchase. Chauvet should hire us for all it's product demos! Overall I'm happy with mine . It's tedious as hell to set everything up but easy to use on a gig.

Can you explain how to set up your fixtures, as far as the "address" channels, related to the Foot-C?

Pod 4 is on channels 13,14,&15 so those should be controlled on fixture 3 with knobs 1-3. The bottom of the Foot-C has a chart that explains this. You just have to match it up to the 4bar manual.

I've watched the video a couple times, makes some sense but still some questions. I have 3 sets of Chauvet 4 bars. One is the older style with a wired connect pedal. The other two are newer and wireless. I like having separate controls because I put the wired one in the back over our singer/cajon and the newer wireless on the sides/front. That way I can have one color on the back one and have a chase or different colors on the sides/front. Make sense? The real down sides are the limitations of what the pedals will do and the reliability of the wired pedal. Those things are like Faberge eggs, you need to treat them with kid gloves because they're so fragile. And they're getting hard to find. So if I read the comments correctly, if I wanted to set up scenes where all are blue or all fade in to red I need to set the address on EACH fixture to "1?" And what does that correspond to on the back menu panel. Sorry for probably a dumb question but I like the idea of more control, just hate to spend the $$ until I have a better idea what needs to be done. Thanks!

I think one thing that might be helpful to keep in mind is that if you want them to all be blue they don't all HAVE to be set to the starting address of 1. However, if all of your fixtures have the same starting address then they WILL all show the same colors and have the same behaviors all the time. Alternatively, you could set two of your fixtures with a starting address of 1 and the 3rd with a starting address of 16 (in 15 channel mode). This would allow you to have all of your lights blue if you wanted by programing the first two lights and then your 3rd fixture separately. This would also give you the flexibility to program a scene where the 3rd fixture is a different color from the first two. I would say refer to the manual for specific instructions on how to set the starting address of your fixtures but when you flip through the menu there's an option for something like DMX and I believe you'll see another screen where you can flip up and down between the number 1 and 512.

Hi AJ, I originally had an Elation DMX controller that what a pain to program and that has finally died and bought this Foot C 2, I haven't been able to get them to talk to each other yet. I called Chauvet and the guy from Malasia said they don't work together. Then I just found your video. The two 4 Bar fixtures are set up as d....1 and d...17. does this sound correct as Start Addresses?

  • @asilve3

That is strange, whenever I have called them I am able to talk to reps in the US who are very knowledgable and helpful. If your 4bar fixtures are like mine then they have 3 and 15 channel modes. So if you want to use both fixtures in 15 channel mode and operate them separately then you could start one of them on channel 1 and that would mean the other one would start on channel 16.

I guess we're still pretty soon after this video going up, but have you had a chance to purchase/play around with more lights to see if this works the other way around? For example, If I was using a 6spot which has 8 channels, next to a Mini Kinta, which has 3 channels, If I assigned the 6spot to channel 1 and Kinta to 9...could I sneakily chain together a bunch of stuff they're pretending I can't...maybe a bunch of 3 channel lights to get all sorts of wacky effects they don't want me to know I have?

I haven’t had the chance to try it with other lights but I feel pretty confident it would work. And you would still have 4 more “fixtures” to play with. Depending on what else you are going to connect you could be strategic and set your Kinta to a starting address to 13 so it’s on fixture 3 and therefore separate from your six spot (which would take up all if fixture one and 2 channels on fixture 2). It’s all about what works best for the lights you’re rigging up.
