PM1: Cleanser Niacinamide Retinol Moisturizer PM2: Cleanser Niacinamide Effaclar DUO Moisturizer

I'm From Rice Toner or Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence 3. Cerave resurfacing retinol serum. 4. 30 SPF sunscreen during daytime (also make sure to have one for oily skin, for example, COSRX Aloe Soothing Suncream)

    super helpful! thank you so much for the video! i just got my retinol and was looking for a video like this. just one question. i've heard about the sandwich method where you apply a thin layer of moisturizer, your retinol and then another thin layer of moisturizer to minimize irritation. is this recommended? this is for a night routine btw!

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    Жыл бұрын

    The sandwich method is not needed for such a low-strength retinol serum. This is typically only done for very high strengths of prescription retinoids like tretinoin or potent formulations of retinol at 1%. However, I'm curious to know where you heard about this. Could you provide a link or share the source? I've been asked that question so often recently, and I'd like to explore it further. Thank you! :)

    I always come looking for your videos whenever I buy a new product. I just received my CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum, but I have doubts about how to use it. I currently have a very basic mornin routine : Cleanser (effaclar) > rose water as a toner > CosrxSnail Mucin essence > the ordinary niacinamide > Sunscreen On the PM, if I’m wearing make up : beauty of Joseon cleanser balm > neutrogena curcuma calm > snail mucin essence > la roche posay effaclar concentrated serum (I started using it a few days ago). When should I be using the Cerave serum ?

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello Lydia, Since you just started with the effaclar concentrated serum, I suggest waiting at least 1-2 weeks before using the retinol. Since sometimes this leads to redness/stinging. But after that, you could use it on the days you do not use that serum, so alternate between the retinol and the serum and then see what frequency works best for you. (or how often you can use them) Since that is individual and depends a lot on your personal skin tolerance and needs.

  • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

    Retinol can help make pores look smaller. It speeds up skin cell turnover, which means less buildup of dead skin that can clog and enlarge pores. It might also help control oil, which can also make pores look smaller. Moisturizing lotions keep your skin hydrated and nourished, helping to stop it from getting dry. They don't influence pores directly, but by keeping your skin balanced and not too dry, they can prevent your skin from making too much oil. This can help stop your pores from getting clogged. So, ultimately, it's okay to use these two products together as long as you use them in the right order and give your skin time to adjust to the retinol.

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's something that is not known. There are no lifetime studies on Retinol/Retinoids. Or at least I am not aware of them. You do not need to increase the dose if this works well. It depends on the conversion of the retinol to your skin and your overall tolerance for it. Try it; use it for a few months, and if you feel the need to use a higher strength, go for it. Retinol brands I can recommend is La Roche Posay (with fragrance) and Paula's Choice (without fragrance)

    I recently went back to the basics this winter. ☀In the morning 1. cerave sa cleanser, 2. moisturize with the honest company hydrogel, and 3. sunscreen: innisfree daily uv defense + mele sunscreen oil (2 drops) 🌙in the evening: 1. double cleanse with inkey list oat balm + cerave sa cleanser, 2. mad hippie vit a serum 3. moisturize with the honest company hydrogel, and cerave moisturizing cream I'm about to run out of the mad hippie vit a serum and feel like its not doing much to my skin (been using for a few months now, 4/5 months) I'd like to replace it with the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum, but I also recently bought the Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliating Powder (trying it every other day). When/what days should I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum? (I read on their website you shouldn't use it along other physical/chemical exfoliants.) Could I get away with the days I'm not using the exfoliating powder? Or cycle it by week? (one week powder, the following week retinol serum, repeat?) I've learned so much from your channel already and am very appreciative when you respond to my comments! Thanks in advance.

    Hello Nwunye Keke, Yes, don't use AHA (Glycolic, Lactic Acids) or BHA (Salicylic Acid) with Retinol. Especially not if you do it chronically. So the best would be to use it when you are not using your exfoliant. Still, the CeraVe retinol serums are also not very potent, so they should not cause any major irritation. And if you are looking for better results, use Paula's Choice Retinol serums or go with Adapalene 0,1%! :)

    Hi Melissa, I'm new to retinol and have wanted to start using it for a long time but I travel alot and spend large amounts of time without a refrigerator. Does this serum need to be refrigerated? Also, I don't really have any acne scarring issues but I do want to limit fine lines and wrinkles. I am 27 years old, do you think this product is suitable for me to start using for anti-aging concerns? Any help would be appreciated, thank you xx

    No, this product does not need to be refrigerated because it comes in an airless pump bottle. However, it's best to keep it away from excessive heat. This product contains retinol, which can help with various skin concerns. It can make the skin smoother and improve collagen production, leading to an overall improvement in skin appearance. However, it's important to note that it won't work miracles. 😉

    Well, sunscreen is never wrong to use. And it all depends on how fuzzy you are and what you want to achieve. If you use the serum, you likely use it because you want to reduce acne/dark spots. So when having direct sun exposure and not wearing sunscreen, the dark spots take longer to heal. So ultimately sunscreen is good to use ;) Two that I like are COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream and NIOD Survival 30 (Very expensive but a fantastic mineral sunscreen)

    Well, there's no need to use the moisturizer before retinol; it just hinders absorption. This is only useful for very high-strength retinol or perhaps for prescription retinol. Otherwise, you won't get any effects from your retinol. But if the routine works for you, why not?

    Hey :) I think that this is too much Salicylic Acid; I suggest using at least once a day a regular foaming cleanser as otherwise, it will become dry and red very quickly.

    You have to test this and see how it goes because everyone has different skin tolerance levels for retinol and the strength being used. Yes, you can use that one afterwards if you feel the need, otherwise, just use it on its own.

    No, that's not true. There is some evidence that you should avoid using Tretinoin (retinoid) with benzoyl peroxide, but that is only true if you have sun exposure, so when using it in the evening, there is no issue.

    Hey! 😊 Yes, this can work. How long have you been following this routine? How's it going so far? Yes, just let your moisturizer + SPF set for 10-15 minutes before applying your foundation on top. Also, in the evening, I recommend using CeraVe's regular Foaming Cleanser to properly wash off your sunscreen and makeup, and then follow with CeraVe's Acne Foaming Cleanser afterward. 😊

I’m am dealing with acne dark spots right now also my acne is mild at the moment. Would it be okay if my routine is like this? 1. PanOxyl creamy wash 4%benzoyl 2. Acne spot treatment with 2% benzoyl peroxide 3. CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum 4. 70 spf

    Hello, well, that is likely too much for your skin. AM: 1. PanOxyl creamy wash 4%benzoyl 2. SPF PM1: 1. PanOxyl creamy wash 4%benzoyl 2. CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum or PM2: Gentle Cleanser for your skin type (I assume you have oily-combination skin, so one option would be Cetaphil New Daily Facial Cleanser) Acne spot treatment with 2% benzoyl peroxide Just make sure that your skin does not get overly dry; if it does, add a hydrating toner or essence (I like the I'm Rice toner and Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence)

    Hi ! Melissa thank you so much for your informative videos! I've been using cerave for a bit now and wanted to see if you think my treatment is good for me, i have dark spots and acne scars that are fading away thanks to the retinol serum , the acne foam Cleanser and cerave Am spf 30 i wanted to try using the acne control gel since lately I've been having a lot of breakouts. So this is how i plan to use my treatment in the PM now. 1 . Cerave Acne foaming cream cleanser 2. Cerave acne control gel 3. Cerave resurfacing serum 4. Cerave PM moisturizer. For the day i plan on skipping the retinol serum and add the AM fps 30 moisturizer. You think is a good idea? My skin is mixed and doesn't do well with alcohol based products. Thank you again for all the useful info💕💕💕💕
