    The color of gold highlighter cannot be achieved using edible luster dusts. You can get a nice gold but it will not have the high metallic shine that inedible highlighters produce.

    Thank you Chef! I wrote a while back and since then I have bought everything I need to make my own gumpaste flowers to pre made ones with all the different kinds of dusts you showed here.. The ONLY problem I am having is with the pre made flowers. When I go to color them, usually with just a flat matte petal dust, my flowers are coming out looking chalky. I just hate it. SO can you tell me what I am doing wrong? I know you said these pre made ones are more durable and thicker or harder than the gumpaste ones you make. SO I don't want to go to all the trouble of making my flowers just for them to come out chalky and UGLY...I want to take my time and make them correctly. I know some will break but what does a person do to take too much petal dust off or from making them look like thick chalk was put on them! ughhhh...and I love all your tutorials..Working on getting through all of them, anyway! Thank you, and as always a thumbs up!

    Victoria, if you do not like the look of petal dust, you have a few options. You can airbrush the petals and leaves or you can use petal dust first, then add a layer of luster dust to soften the look and give them a little shine.

    Gold Pearl, or any colored pearl dust, will only give a slight shimmer of that color. To complete paint the tiara in gold I suggest using Super Gold luster dust or Edible Hybrid Old Gold Sparkle Dust. Dissolve with one with alcohol or lemon extract to completely paint the tiara. It will not have a metallic look. Only Gold highlighter will give a metallic look but it is not edible.

  • @GlobalSugarArtyoutube

    @GlobalSugarArtyoutube

    10 жыл бұрын

    First, you do not have to steam after dusting, That is a preference and does help set the dust so that it doesn't sprinkle down on your cake but is not a necessity. You can layer dust, first a flat petal dust topped with a sparkle or luster or pearl. You can also mix luster and petal together to make color with a little shine.

    Karen JD You certainly can color the gumpaste with gel colors or powdered food coloring. The petal dust gives the flowers a more realistic look.
