Just picked up my 2021 M340i xdrive, and had no idea about the two lines on the door handle (particularly with black exterior one could miss it real easy)! Thanks for sharing!

I have this on my 2020 X5 M50i. you can also pair an android phone digital key to open the door same as key card. can't use iPhone as apple locks down their NFC chip

No Apple has changed that so it’s up to bmw to add iPhones

if you have multiple BMWs how many digital keys can you have on one phone?

The NFC card doesn’t work for me, nor does Apple Car Key. Even though they are added to my Apple Wallet, the iOS BMW Connected app, and activated in iDrive in my new 2021 M440i. IDrive is updated and iOS updated to latest builds. Please fix.

My keycard locked the car when I put it behind the door handle but did not unlock!

Thanks, I didn't recived Digital Key from BMW KSA, when I bought BMW X5M 2022 - Kinldy advise if I can buy it separately ?

Hello, you can't use the digital key for the hands-free trunk opening. When the regular key is on you (in your pocket, handbag etc) you can use your foot to open the trunk, provided the vehicle has comfort access, and no trailer hitch.

i hear that we can soon use our iPhone as a digital key ? any news on that ?

Hi! BMW should have a software update in the next few months that will allow you to use your iphone as a digital key (on the appropriate models) Not all of the vehicles are capable.

Does that mean you can leave your key at home then?

Yes.

So question if do not mind. the main difference between the remote key fob you keep in your pocket and the digital key card is remote key fob can stay in your pocket but the digital key card has to sit on that charging platform? or will it still work even if in your purse / wallet etc? If memory serves and could be wrong but is there not also a app which can go on your cell phone which does a similar thing? or is my understanding of that wrong

The digital key/credit card key just needs to be laid inside the pad as shown in the video to start the car only, then it can be removed and put back into a wallet/purse. If you have an RFID wallet, you'll have to remove the card from the wallet to unlock the car, as shown in the video. The regular key can unlock the car if the vehicle has comfort access, without having to remove the key from your pocket/handbag. The BMW app will also lock and unlock the car.

From that I assume that comfort access is a feature you can get but is not standard? So in theory there is actually 3 ways of unlocking / locking and starting your car? Remote Key, Digital Key and Phone App. The phone app one sounds like could be very useful as well just about everyone has a cell phone and would mean less keys / cards have to carry with you. Hoping your safe and well always :)

@@nzcyclone Yes, comfort access is not standard on all models as of now. In addition, no matter what packages you have, you cannot start the car from your phone or use it as such, so you would need the key regardless. The app is designed to lock and unlock your car if you happen to lock yourself out or misplace your key

@@Bmwlauren ok That makes sense, but I guess who knows what the future holds. One day might not even need "keys" in the future as all done through a microchip or cell phone. But certainly is a great idea. The advancements in cars and technology in general over the last 5 to 10 years has been amazingly fast. Thank you Lauren for your fast reply :)

Should doors auto-lock when walking away from car using digital key? Or is this only possible with key fob? Ensured my digital key is associated with my profile but need to manually lock after using. Auto lock works like a charm with key fob. Oh, and very helpful video. I won't admit how long I spent trying to figure out the sweet spot for digital key to unlock doors

Hi Paul! The unlock and lock when approaching/walking away only works with the keyfob. Locking with the key card must be done with the gesture in the video.

It would be even nicer if you did not have to remove the Digital Key Card from your wallet to use.

I hear from a couple of clients that you don't have to. Depending on the wallet, setting it on top of the door handle, it activates the function.
