Is it a good idea to use Bike Sharing in Montreal? How much is it, is it convenient to use, and what are the bikes like? In this video I’ll talk about all of this and more!

The Bike-sharing system in Montreal is called ‘BIXI’, and I’m positively suprised about the experience. I think that biking is an awesome way to get around in Montreal. It’s cheap, convenient, and most importantly, lots of fun!

Are you planning to use bike-sharing in Montreal? In case you have used Bixi, or if you've biked in Montreal, let me know what your experience has been, would love to hear your opinion!

I have a friend who uses a bike as a mean of transportation here in Montreal (we live here btw), he rented a bike once from bixi cuz his bike needed repairs at that day. He told me that the deposit for the bike was never returned to him. I persisted on telling him to report it, but even then his money never came back😢 that’s why I never tried renting bikes from bixi

The monthly plan might be still worth it even for 3-5 day trips. Last summer I went to Montreal too and almost exclusively used Bixi to get around. The thing is you get unlimited 45 min trips without having to worry much, the trick is just return the bike to the dock within 45mins and check it out again.. perfect for covering longer distances.

That's a good idea. Yes it's worth it if you use it enough!

Another advantage for the monthly plan is there's no deposit, which can free up funds if you are visiting on a budget.

The 45 minutes reset after returning it to the rack? I thought it was 45 minutes _cumulative_ for the day!!

Just wanted to thank you for this useful video. I visited Montreal from NYC and rode the Bixi bikes on the path along the canal. Having your video to watch in preparation was very helpful. Much appreciated!

I'm just finishing up nearly a week of visiting Montreal from the US. We walked nearly the entire time, and had considered using the bike rental system. After visiting a store called Decathlon while shopping in a mall, we determined that after two days of riding (without docking), It would have been cheaper to purchase two cheap bikes and giving them away at the end of our stay (versus renting). For us, this would have worked out great. On day 4, we were really regretting not doing it on day 2. Our feet hurt. Its obviously not for everybody, but would have worked out excellent for us.

That's a great option to consider! Second hand bikes even sell for quite some money.

Can I access the station without registering? I just tried it on their website, but I'm not a Canadian resident. ...

I just have this one doubt, I get a monthly pass would I get a cumulative time of 45 minutes per day irrespective of how many ever times I park the bike or is it just one time use per day? Also if I can park multiple times a day, The time gets restarted per use or will it just start from the time of my prior use on that specific day?

In SF, Calif, we could get to a station within the time limit. Then you dock it and wait three minutes. Then you can take a bike again for another bout. We did it over and over until we got to our location. I am guessing it would be the same.

Beware of Bixi! . DON'T GET FOOLED BY THEIR GOODIE TWO SHOES ADVERTISING! if by any unfortunate chance you get stuck with a defective bike or multiple recurring situation where you cannot lock your bike you are treated like a criminal and responsible $$$ for their defective and / or badly maintained infrastructure! The responsibility of faulty equipment is ALL on the customer. Buyer beware!!! Search online for the real reviews and nightmare experiences!
