How to use BENZOYL PEROXIDE WITH ADAPALENE| Dr Dray

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Dermatologist Dr Dray on how to use BENZOYL PEROXIDE WITH ADAPALENE for acne. Differin gel is an FDA approved over the counter retinoid for the treatment of acne. It can be used along with benzoyl peroxide, similar to Epiduo, and in today's video I tell you how to combine these ingredients for better results. #acnetreatment #acne #acneskincare

For those that need the short answer. It seems to be generally recommended to use Benzoyl Peroxide in the morning and Differin Adapalene gel at night. But Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel can be used together. Differin Adapalene gel is a form of topical vitamin A that actually remains stable in the presence of Benzoyl Peroxide. It is literally what prescription medication Epiduo(a combination of Benzoyl Peroxide and Adapalene) is. You can find a few studies on the subject in the National Library of Medicine. However, combining both products together could cause skin irritation and dryness for individuals that have more sensitive skin. Also some additional studies show that the lower percent Benzoyl Peroxide products work with pretty much the same efficiency as the products with higher percent for acne. So if you want to use Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel together at night it may be beneficial to go for a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser with lower percent because it can be less irritating and just as effective for treating acne as higher percents. But as always you need to try these things out for yourself, monitor progress over the course of 4 to 6 weeks, and adjust as needed to see what works best for you and your skin. If you require a more personal assessment then it would probably be best to see a Dermatologist.

This is such a game changer. I was on the combination prescription for a while and it dried me out so badly that I wouldn't use it everyday, not to mention the cost, and so thusly still had pretty moderate to bad hormonal acne. Using the face wash as a mask is amazing, and now a month later my skin has stopped purging and looks so much better than it did. None of my dermatologists ever provided any of this information to me, so I am so thankful you did!

Really great video! I am really happy to hear about the neutrogena 2.5% BP gel. Nice to have a low dose option--I would never leave on a high percentage BP all over my face, but definitely would for the low dose. And yes the bleaching stinks, but it 100% beats having severe cystic acne and the scarring that comes with it. Adapalene + benzoyl peroxide completely prevents my cystic acne. I still get some acne but it's very minimal and not a big deal. Nice to hear this is safe long-term!

Differin has helped my skin so much but I still get a few cysts or tiny pimples here and there, I’m totally gonna re-introduce benzoyl peroxide into my night routine!

Thus information was right on point. I now know I'm supposed to wash and moisturize first. I wasn't moisturizing the spots I applied the gel

Yeah thanks neither of them worked well enough by themselves. It's only about a couple weeks into combining them, but this is the best my face has ever been probably, even though I'm probably not done with the Adapalene purge phase since I have only been using that a few months. Alongside the BP and the Adapalene, I suggest CeRave moisturizer and something that is personally necessary for me is a scrub cloth to use with the moisturizer in order to help with the peeling from the Adapelene.

I've been using differin gel for more than 3 years. But I still get acne and every time I use benzoyl peroxide partially. However, this also did not have much effect, and repeated use of benzoyl peroxide in certain areas caused irritation. So I thought of benzoyl peroxide cleanser and found this video. Thank you so much for explaining exactly what I thought.

hi dr dray! i'm not sure if you've made this video before, but could you talk about how to treat dark corners of the lips? I think i have sebacious filaments around my mouth, and the area is dark! i've tried using retinol around those areas (w/o any irriration) and glycolic acid (both using on different days) and i haven't seen results. what do you recommend? love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you so much for talking about the benzoyl peroxide. I was using the Differin gel with it randomly because my acne is so fierce. This has helped me so much. I also have a peelling nose and had an allergic reaction to prescribed doxycycline and was so upset because it worked at first. Is there something I could use over the counter for peeling nose? Thank you so much again.

I’ve been using Differin and Neutrogena 2.5% BP cream for about 3 months and it actually works. At the moment I have some red spots and can’t distinguish if it’s irritation or acne. Could this be from me using BP cream both morning and night? -I’m a big fan love your educational content ❤️

I use SA face wash. Then I apply cetaphil & colloidal oatmeal lotion followed by differin- then couple days a week I layer BP over the differin. There’s a lot of peeling when I use both so I limited the days I use BP

If you have already filled your prescription for Epiduo, perhaps just apply it to the t-zone of your face (and body if you have acne there); and then (if you can buy it over the counter in your country), use the adapalene (only) for the rest of your face & neck (where you really don't want your skin to be dried out).

Start really slow if you don’t want dry skin. I started with applying it every third day for a couple weeks then I did every other day. My skin is more on the dry side naturally so it’s hard for me to do it every day but I still do some times, just not for longer then 3 days since I have eczema and my face will get mad if i do that for too long. It’s still effective when applied every third or every other day, it’ll just take a little longer to see result but you’ll have less of the bad side effects like peeling and dry skin

Epiduo changed my life. I struggled with almost cystic hormonal acne which killed my confidence and vibe. I was prescribed Epiduo by my dermatologist and it really cleared my skin (over several months). Only thing I wish I didn't do was apply too much too often, I definitely burned my skin a couple of times. Otherwise, fantastic ingredients for those that struggle with acne.

I recently got prescribed epiduo from my dermatologist and it was burning my face really badly. He didn’t really tell me how to use it except what the leaflet recommended (which I followed and it still burned). How often did you apply it and did you used any other moisturisers with it?

I used to use some retin a cream on my acne scarring, but due to continuous flaking, this was not optimal. Once I switched to Differin i could start using it every day. I noticed quite an improvement perhaps a month after starting Differin. I would recommend it to try for anyone fighting old acne scarring, for me.. its mind-blowing. I have heard that there have been tests done with very positive outcomes using Differin cream containing 0.3% adapalene that also contains benzoyl peroxide. However such cream seems very difficult to get hold of at least here in Europe. Anyway, will continue with normal differin, and some serums. Do some more micro-needling, For the first time , I feel like I will eventually get really nice skin.

How is your skin going? I want to do the same. I just got some fixer sessions too after a treatment with antibiotics and I liked them, but I am still struggling with some acne and lots of scars. Let's see how it goes. I just started with the differin every day. Thanks ☺️

After many years of trial and error, I use BP wash one day with Tretionoin .1% the next day (alternatively). Otherwise my skin gets irritated because of the strong Tretinoin. Didn’t know epidou was a combination of both, probably with lower concentration of actives , might try that next. I imagine differin doesn’t have the anti aging properties that tretinion does?

Hi Dr Dray, I recently watch your tinted spf. I also recently purchased the avene 50+ which you mentioned too. I noticed that one of the ingridient contains ptfe which patented by Teflon. There is a growing research this properties contains carcinogenic. Can you please advise is this safe to continue to be used? And why company would use ptfe in cosmetic and skincare?
