THIS is what a good channel consists of! No one covers the bases so clearly, wow. Thank yo so much. I'm decorating a house for a couple with a modern open plan who have just decided that they want sage kitchen cabinets (not crazy about the idea). I was scouring the internet for sophisticated sage tones that go well with classic gray, and while I haven't found that yet, I DID find your wonderful channel:)) You surely know your stuff Mister!

Hi Jacob, love your reviews. I had to pick a color for my walls in my new home, open concept. I had been looking for months at grays. When it came time to painting, painter said I need an answer tomorrow. I have white cabinets, white trim. I did not want a gray that was so light it would just clash with all the white trim. I wanted the color to show a bit. I made the classic gray 10% darker which is not a lot of difference. Boy, I love the color! It changes like a chameleon. I have brown/gray floors. Gray and off white scatter rug. I used some navy blue for sofa, etc. and some brown metal end tables, and glass also. During the day the walls are creamy/beige to a light gray depending on the lighting, I have lots of windows. Night time the gray seems to pop out. It is like I have two different colors so I am never bored. Also both colors are neutrals, can match to almost any accent colors I want. I love this classic gray and was thinking of going 25% darker for my bedroom walls or 50%. IT is a big room. What is your thinking to how the tones could change?

Hi Patricia:) Classic Gray is a beautiful and versatile interior paint color when paired perfectly with the fixed and furnished elements of a home. I'm happy for you:) I don't recommend cutting paints to any of my clients because the undertones will become unpredictable. Please be careful and I wish you the best.

Thanks so much for your help! I have pine floors and we are thinking of going with classic grey because it’s in the warm side but it’s very dreary in the winter where we are moving. War Vancouver, we do have a lot of green outside but also have a medium grey couch with blue accent chairs... not a lot of artificial light either, do you think it’ll seem too dark in the evenings and in the rainy winters?

Is there a similar greige or even an off-white w/ smiliar LRV that's just a touch more beige or warm... I am happy with pink, red, green understones.... less into purple undertones. I have a cream white carpet, with cool grey x pattern, over top elegant craft bungalow oak laminate, which is a medium to dark brown with warm honey undertones. I think it would help if you would simply list the specific undertones of a paint color and then illustrate how those tones are brought out in comparison to a different color. I'm working under the impression that we can't go wrong when we pick a gray with blue undertone if the other colors in the room are also blue or, at the least, a blue with a cool undertone.

I have a dark north-faced hallway I want to paint classic gray. It has those Tuscan beige tiles with greens, pinks, and orange undertones, but oil light beige. The adjacent rooms have medium taupe colored carpets. And the living room color is a very pale Stormy Monday with those violet undertones. Hi Jacob, love your videos. We used Classic Gray in our front hallway and up the stairs to the bedroom hallway. Now we would like to use a complimentary sage colour in our living / dining area which is open to the front hallway. We are in a townhouse in Victoria, BC so something not too dark as it is dark enough here in the winter (although we would like an accent colour on our corner fireplace, maybe a deeper sage). Our main living room are rug is a pattern with darker olive greens, a bit of rusty brown and some muted yellows. The floors are a light oak laminate. Any ideas for a colour to bring into the living/dining area?

It's beautiful where you live:) It's hard to say what the perfect interior color would be for the living and dining room without any visuals. Jacob your tutorials are amazing. I am contemplating between classic grey, and agreeable grey in my north facing kitchen and living space, open concept. Three big windows face north and there are sliding doors facing west. I am working with a clean slate, in terms of furniture complete reno with exception of two off white (almost look like the colour of butter in that exposure) I would like to incorporate if possible. Do you think I should go contrasting with agreeable or similar with classic? The kitchen cabinets will be chantilly lace and floor darker medium oak Thanks :)

Hi Jacob. Thanks for reviewing so many colors. A couple questions: 1) When you talk about how light color is I don't hear you referring to LRV. Wouldn't this be a foolproof way to determine relative lightness? 2) In terms of undertones my eye doesn't really detect purple undertones in many colors that are said to have them. It makes me nervous to pick a color that has unexpected undertones especially purple or pink but also blue or green, if that isn't what I'm going for. How can I get better at recognizing undertones? Do you recommend finding out the formula for the color from the paint store? Thanks again for your reviews!

Hi Lara, it's my pleasure to help others who need a little guidance in the complicated world of interior or exterior paint colors:) I've never recommended any interior paint color to all my clients based on LRV. LRV is misleading in more ways than one. The only way to get better at recognizing undertones is through years of experience and the formula for the paint color is not how you identify undertones. Hi Michele, depends on the undertones of your floors. Not all travertine floors are made equally. I'm assuming you have the right interior design layout and natural lighting to pull it off as well. I wish you the best:)

Hi there:) Thank you for the kind words:) Hard to say without any visuals of your fixed elements. Many different ways to approach the trim paint color outside of off whites. In your case try SW Snowbound or BM Cloud Cover.

BM silver satin seems to be very similar to Classic Gray.. Can you do a video on that color please?

Hi Gloria, Classic Gray will go with Amande by Planches de Rex. Benjamin Moore Fiji is beautiful blue-green paint color. Do you see more of the blue during the day and the green at night or when you have less natural lighting? I'm curious:) I've worked with this paint color several times in the past. Hi Eva, that's a tough question to answer without any visuals but feel free to check out my online packages (there is a link in the description section below the video) if you need help. I wouldn't focus on the wood flooring instead I would focus on the fixed and furnished items in your kitchen. For example cabinet knobs, lighting, countertops, backsplash, appliances and the list goes on. I would question why classic gray? Not sure how it relates to Louisberg Green by Benjamin Moore and I wouldn't recommend Classic Gray. It's not your fault. Interior colors are complicated. Hope that helps:)

My backsplash is white subway tile with dark grout, countertops are Calcutta (white with grey veining) cabinet hardware are black bronze brushed. I'd like a brighter look to the room but feel like classic grey is a little too dark for our kitchen given we have the green cabinets. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks :)

Jacob....we are building a new home. I am torn between classic gray, silver satin and barren plain. My cabinets will be white dove in kitchen and butler pantry. Dining room and kitchen island,,thinking light pewter...dry bar will be Iron ore. My question is which color, silver satin, classic gray or barren plain, will look the best with light pewter and white dove cabinetry? Thanks!

Great video. I'm doing my kitchen in classic grey. It looks awesome on the walls with white cabinets and a grey/greige off white patterned tile backsplash and Calcutta gold quartz with natural white oak floors. Will you do a video about grey owl for a low light South facing room? I tried sea salt in there and in the evening it looks blue. I was going for a light and airy soft light blue green.

In the middle of painting bathroom classic gray which was Hawthorne Yellow and the violet undertones you mention are currently showing strong. Hoping once I finish covering the yellow (which I know compliments purple) they will dissipate. The bathroom is basically white and floor is a light gray, beige, white stone look combo - the chip looked good against the floor. Trying to do some neutralizing for future sale.

What about classic grey with Grey/taupe hardwood floors?

Hi Danielle, chances are the dark floors or another color in your room is causing the Classic Gray to look beige or yellow. This happens all the time especially with light interior colors such as whites, greiges or off-white paint colors. I need a visual of your place to give you the correct answers (check out my online packages or link in the description section below this video). You need to add more color to your wall and be sure it pairs with all your fixed and furnished items that you have in your room.

I just sampled Classic Grey on very large boards. Three coats. It's yellow everywhere I take it. I'm shocked. To be fair it is pink and yellow and a bit of cream and barely to zero pale grey cast. No orange thankfully. And it may be the crummy sample which is not even real paint but I'm definitely spooked. It looks nothing like the paint chip. You might want to look at Silver Satin (I hope that's the right name). it's the same depth as CG and not dirty looking like these greiges are. While sampling Classic Gray I notice it looks great with navy blue, red, green, rust -- basically all the colors that go with a strong yellow base . . .So maybe we're both nuts?

Hi Lena, I'm assuming you mean interior decor. You want to add lots of color to your room. Classic gray is a light color! Add blue, taupe, blue-green, dark or light gray fabrics to name a few:) I wish you the best, Lena:)

Hi Reham, it can appear much lighter if you receive a lot of natural lighting. I wouldn't say washed out but lighter. That's assuming you have large windows, high ceilings, low shadows and lots of open space in your home.

I’m about to paint my entire house Classic Gray with simply white trim and ceilings. Is there enough contrast during the day and night usually to notice that it’s gray or is it so light that it could get washed out? The main living area doesn’t get a ton of natural light and the ceilings are standard height.

Caitlin Wilkerson well I ended up painting my trim Chantilly lace because it’s a whiter white than simply white and I painted my walls accessible beige because it’s a darker version of classic gray. In hindsight, I think classic gray would have shown up nicely with either the simply white or Chantilly lace trim.

Caitlin Wilkerson fantastic and safe choice in my opinion. Each of my five bedrooms are different Greiges because of the direction they face and the amount of light they get. Agreeable gray didn’t have too many sneaky undertones like the others. It’s my favorite Greige. Worldly gray beware has purple undertones. I had to repaint over it except in my south facing room which gets the best light.

I have painted my ceilings in BM Dove White, and I just painted Classic Grey on my walls and they are looking pink. I painted a sample of White Dove and a sample of Classic Grey and when put next to each other, the Classic Grey takes on a pink tinge. I believe the yellow undertone in White Dove brings out the violet/pink undertones in Classic Grey. Big mistake. I'm now considering either repainting the ceiling or repainting the walls.
