I don't like the fact they want you to WASTE very expensive insulin. In addition to pre filling the needle and making sure you put out a drop or two or three, I just turn it to the number I need and inject it. The very first use of the pen I will get the insulin to the needle because the pen has air in it for the first use only. Something else I found out is that when your pen is supposedly empty, there is still around 15 units still in it. I have a syringe that I use when the pen is supposedly empty. Funny how they want you to waste so much insulin. Just for an example, I need to usually inject 20 units 3 times a day. So that could be a waste of 3-6 or 9 drops of insulin wasted. The pen supposedly holds 300 units. It lasts me around 3 1/2 to 4 days. That would be 10-31 drops wasted. I don't know how much exactly that would be but add that to the 15 units you throw away when the supposed pen is empty. I have gotten up to 317 units out of my pens. It usually gets at least 315 units.

Another thing worthy to note is when using a new pen for the first time you may have to prime more than one time to see any insulin drops coming out.

At 69, I started using insulin about 2 weeks ago, and the idea of shoving a needle in me scared me more than flying over Vietnam! But I watched a ton of videos and finally just gritted my teeth and put the needle (BD Nano 4mm) on the Flex Touch pen, swabbed the alcohol wipe on my upper thigh, pressed the pen against my skin and pressed the button... I've had fly bites that hurt more. Same thing the next night when I injected it in my belly, it was like "and you were a big baby about WHAT?" It is incredible how simple and painless the whole process is. It's more uncomfortable taking blood from my finger.

Am 60 here and I took my first dose today. Wow! What a difference! Much better experience than poking my fingers to take my glucose readings! Also much better than any $500/month pill that had been prescribed to me before finally prescribing insulin. I feel so much better too after the injection too! Almost normal! 😊

I was recently started on insulin (3 SA, 1 LA per day) and I was thinking it was going to be confusing to do and felt nervous since i kind of have a fear of needles. I looked for tutorials and found your video and it didnt seem as confusing as i thought afterwards. Its been about 3 days and i’ve already gotten used to it! Pain free too! Thanks alot!👍

Thank you for this video. A nurse in the Dr office showed me how to use the pen. She showed me wrong. She didn’t tell me that after I screwed the needle on that I was to remove the clear cover or the green sheath. My blood sugars hadn’t gone down in a week so I looked up your tutorial and soon realized I haven’t been getting doses when pressing the injector as both covers were on the needle. I’m so pissed off. I even called the Dr office because my blood sugars were still so high after injecting myself. Nor did the nurse tell me to use alcohol swabs. I even asked. Of course the Dr office never called me back. WTH??
