    Great vid, very educational and entertaining. Just wanted to point out you maybe glossed over some of the finer points alot of people, including myself, struggled with when figuring out our evertunes. Regarding the tuning and intonation it's important to know that you must make sure you stay in zone two the entire time because tuning at the saddle and especially adjusting intonation you can very quickly move you out of zone two and it's going to be very frustrating and time consuming if your fine tuning, but are not aware that all that work is pointless if you've left zone two without realizing. Same goes for action and neck relief. It's really very delicate for the initial setup. But after all that hard work then you truly reap the benifits of the evertune, you could go so far as installing one on a guitar like an aristides that does not have a wooden neck and therefore the neck is not reacting to environmental conditions like temperature or humidity for unparalleled tuning stability. In Wisconsin my neck moves alot throughout the seasons and I try to get as close to zone 3 as possible for sensitive bending and I would find my guitar out of tune frequently and was constantly fiddling with the bridge in frustration when all I had to do was adjust the neck relief to return every string to proper pitch at one time. One last point is that there is a range of string Guages the individual modules will tolerate and when purchasing you need to make sure that your Guage or range of Guages will work with the module. Evertune has an easy to use calculator on their website to check compatibility because they offer different modules for differnt Guage ranges and you want to make sure you've got the correct modules before you get the guitar and put your favorite strings on and have no idea why the evertune is not functioning properly. It's a beautiful system but there can be an incredible amount of frustration for people who are not aware of some of these things I've mentioned when they think it's going to be magic out of the box. I've even paid extra for custom evertune setups from Sweetwater and I receive the guitar and need to redo the entire setup because even the pros sometimes don't fully understand the system especially when changing string Guages.

    These are all great points! I have numerous videos on the EverTune Topic, this video being my first and for some reason most popular. But I touch on all of these topics throughout all of the various EverTune Videos I've uploaded. And you're absolutely right, its a beautiful system that when proper understood will change your whole recording and performance game! Its awesome! Thanks for watching, Thanks for adding these points! 🤘🏼😜

    @@MadManMusic Hey Man I love the guitar!! Sadly they made a mistake and it came with std Grover tuners.....:( They are making it right I have locking ones on the way. With that said I'm having a few issues with setup and getting the intonation right. Every time I get the fine-tuning right. I go to do the intonation and then the fine-tuning is off again. A few other minor issues I'm sure is my lack of experience setting up bridges. I need to be able to change zones fairly easily. I record a lot. I play rhythm and lead. Since you are not gigging would you be open to helping me over zoom and I will pay you? Should only take 30 minutes I imagine and I'm happy to pay you fairly for your time? If not I totally understand. Hope your having a safe but good thanksgiving!! I'm in Ca. I'm off at 11am everyday and off Mon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thanks for the easy to understand video. Evertune is badass but not available in a piezo style Roland VG99/Boss GP10 setup atm. I do digital alt tunings in standard E to E with the ability to change my guitar into whatever tune I want by hitting a toggle on the guitar. Those pedals act like evertune in the sense that small sharps or flats a string might go out of tune are automatically compensated for to maintain proper tune. I use the RMC piezo system on a strat bridge and the GHOST piezo on a Floyd Rose for 100% tracking.

    @@MadManMusic Thing is an absolute beauty - got chills unboxing it. You said it best in one of your other videos on it: every second spent with it just further validates the investment. Can't wait to put in my time with it and earn my own shiny spot battle scars on that matte finish! A few more specific first impressions in case anecdotally helpful for anyone also considering the ESP E-II Eclipse 7-string Evertune: 1) Mine was still factory sealed from ESP inspection, and per the stickers, was sitting in a Zzounds warehouse for about 6 months before being shipped to me by ground from the other side of the US. Regardless, setup was immaculate right out the box. 2) Evertune is the absolute truth. Mine came with all the strings somewhere in the middle of Phase 2. Moving them up to the Phase 2/Phase 3 "bend stop" and back down to Phase 2 so that you can have tune locking but still bend naturally was really really easy to do, and took seconds per string, just like in the video. 3) So far, IMO the Seymour Duncan Sentient/Pegasus pickups are actually plenty high output for what I need. I am used to active EMGs on my Schechter Hellraiser FR so was afraid I'd be a little underwhelmed, but I've yet to find myself wanting for more output so far. Will of course vary based on everyone's taste, style, signal chain, etc. I also find they have a lot more tonal variety than my Hellraiser's EMGs, despite the fact that Hellraiser allows for individual pickup coilsplitting vs. the Eclipse's single overall push-pull.

    Awesome!! So glad you dig the guitar!! Thanks for the “Unboxed Review”! I think your thoughts will certainly be helpful to others here. I think some people might be intimidated by this bridge... i know i was! But the more people try it and find that its not so difficult once you understand the basics the more others might be willing to take the plunge! The Duncans do sound great! I feel back in love with Seymour Duncan Pups after rockin my E2. I do need a little more “Oomph” so I went for the Distortion 7 in the bridge. I think I’ll eventually put another Distortion in the Neck as I have the “Mayhem Set” (Double 6 String Distortions) in my TE-200 and I love it matched up with the coil splitting capability. I have tons of gain in full Humbucker mode so I keep my amp gain around half, and then when I pull up that splitter it still has enough volume. Ive had some pickups that the split coil was useless because the pickups were so thin.. Anywho, Thanks again for sharing!! Enjoy!! 🤘🏼😜

    Brilliant playing! :) Love your playing! You are mentioning that the string (or spring?) tension is what decides what tune the string will land on. So what about someone playing in Open E-tuning exclusively? Do I have to use thinner strings on some strings to get the Evertune guitar up to E/B/E/G#/B/E? Or do I adjust the tension on the spring for the string?

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate that very much! The Tension of the string will govern the tuning slightly otherwise you’ll need to swap saddle mechanisms for Hi or Lo Tension Saddles. But what this means if you like a 70 on the bottom, you’re never tuning that to E without Hi Tension Saddles. But then again anyone playing a string that HUGE wouldn’t be tuning it so high anyway. As long as you’re playing anything from 9s to probably 11s should be fine with the stock Regular tension saddles. So dont worry too much. Its just for those wild string gauge users out there. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

    Hey dude! Glad the videos were helpful! That is kinda weird that his Sig Model isnt even tuned correctly! Lol But all you have to do is decrease the tension using the Tuning Machines on the Headstock to bring all of the strings into Zone 2. So no bend. Once there use the Hex Key that came to detune the Tuning Screws in the Saddles and Tune the Guitar where you would like it to be tuned. (Be careful of string gauges, this system relies on Tension. Thicker strings = Higher Tension) Once you’re Finely Tuned, increase the Tension using the Tuning Machines on the Headstock and bring each string to the threshold of Zone 2 & 3 “The Bend Stop” and BOOM! You’re rockin. Let me know if you have any trouble! 🤘🏼😜

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey, I'm sorry for the super late reply.. If stretch your strings well enough (and the use of Locking Tuners helps) you'll have a reduced amount of "Slippage". But just like any guitar you'll likely experience a little bit of slippage. And when that happens, instead of the string going Flat in Pitch it will just fall more into the Zone 2 area of the system which will reduce your ability to Bend notes. This isn't such a scary thing because if this happens just tighten the corresponding tuning machine a bit and you'll be back in business. Its rare that you'll experience this in a way that will ruin your playing experience. But I felt it was worth mentioning as it does in fact happen in some way. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have another question! 🤘🏼😜

  • @MadManMusic

Does the Evertune makes this model a heavy guitar, in weight? Most my life I used a (not around anymore) LTD VIPER 400 with EMG HZ ( i regret selling her), it was lightweight. Is this a heavy guitar?

    Hey man, great informative vid! I was wondering if the evertune adds extra tension to the strings? Let's say you are using the 9-54 pack on an evertune 7 string vs a non-evertune 7 string with the same scale. Does putting the strings in the bending zone increase the tension you feel while playing vs the same gauges on a normal bridge? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks!

  • @MadManMusic

    Great Question. There is a slight difference in feel in comparison to a guitar with say a Tone-O-Matic or Fixed Bridge. It feels more like the way a guitar with a Floyd Rose does because its a “similar” sort of mechanic thats going on. But this shouldn’t out you off. This is something you’d only notice if you jumped back and forth between two different guitars. And either way, You’d expect the feeling so it shouldn’t bother you. But as far as bending, this tension doesn’t effect it all that much. There is no difference in feel from Zone 2 to Zone 3. It feel exactly the same. Raising the tension by tuning up the string through the zones does not change the feel. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

    Hei man great video! I own an evertune guitar but mine does not stays in tune completely..every time that I play it I need to adjust the tuning from the bridge, it just does not stay perfectly in tune..any idea of why would this happens? I also noticed that your saddles are way "back into the bridge" than mine, which are closer to the edge of the bridge (close to the bridge pu to be clear)..is there a particular reason for this? I play in drop A#, and I have checked the string gauge in the evertune website to be sure that the normal saddle would do the job and they should..but they actually does not :( thx in advance for your reply, cheers from Italy!

    Hey Cheers from (an American in) Germany! The position of my Saddles correlates to how the guitar’s scale length and how the intonation is set up. So i wouldn’t worry about that so much as long as your guitar is intonated properly. The thing is, when you’re in “Zone 2” it is not possible for the pitch of your string to change. Thats the whole concept of the technology behind the bridge system *when it is functioning properly*. So I would recommend lowering the tension of all of your strings using the Tuning Machines on the Headstock. Bring them all down into “Zone 2” about 1 full turn of your Tuning Machine away from the “Bend Stop” and Then Fine Tune using the Tuning Screws in the Saddles. Check your tuning and your intonation at the 12 fret. If everyone is in tune then raise the tension of the Tuning Machine on the Headstock to the Bend Stop. You’ll know you’ve reached the Bend Stop because you’ll hear the pitch go up. The back it off back slightly into Zone 2 and you’re set! When you’re in Zone 2 the strings tension is balanced with the Springs inside so it can’t change pitch without a lot of add tension. Like playing further up the neck or bending. But regular strumming is not enough to change the pitch. I hope that all makes sense. Let me know if you have trouble! 🤘🏼😜

    It shouldn’t be difficult to find Zone 2, as you add tension using the Tuning Machines (say with a new string that’s totally loose) tighten it until the note stays the same. This is Zone 2. Keep tightening the tension using the Tuning Machines until the pitch starts to go higher again. That is Zone 3. Ease the tension back into Zone 2 and set it near the “Bend Stop”. Thats the point where the pitch starts to go up again. You want to be just before that. In this position you can use the fine tuners in the saddles to tune to the exact pitch you need. A quick trick to know if you’re close is to use your pointer finger to pull up on the string near the bridge and listen for a “Click” sound. Thats the Saddle touching the Bend Stop. Tighten the tension until the click goes away, the. Back off a quarter turn. I hope that helps! Lemme know. 🤘🏼😜

    Nice! Congrats. 💪🏼 What you’ll wanna go first is set all the strings into Zone 2, about a full turn if the Tuning Machines on the Headstock from the “Bend-Stop” (the point at which the string starts to go up in pitch again. Once you’re there, Fine Tune the strings using the Allen Key in the Saddle at the Bridge. Then, with the volume to your amp turned off, pull up on each string individually. You’ll hear a clicking sound. Thats the sound of the spring mechanism hitting the Bend-Stop in the Bridge. Raise the tension of the strings by using the tuning machine on the headstock until that click is very faint. If its gone away, you’ve gone too far. Once you’ve done this you should be perfectly set up for staying in tune AND bending! I hope that helps! If you have more questions feel free to ask. Also, check out my whole EverTune playlist! 🤘🏼😜

    If all the strings are set up to be outside the green zone and therefore bend as normal, will the evertune bridge still help to always keep the guitar in tune? Or does this only apply to strings which are in the green zone? Thanks!

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well there’s Zone 1 when the string are loose, Zone 2 when they are “to pitch” however the saddle is set and then there is the Bend-Stop into Zone 3 where the string will continue to go up in pitch when the tension is increased. The idea is to always be in Zone 2 just before the threshold of Zone 3. This way when you apply tension by bending it will press against the Bend-Stop and move into Zone 3 raising in Pitch but when you release the bend it will go back into Zone 2. It does help with stability, even in zone 3. If you swap tuning between regular and drop tuning, the recommendation is to keep the normal state as Drop-tuning, but put the low string in zone 3 for regular tuning. I.e that way you get the best of both worlds - super solid drop and super solid standard-tuning (at least 5/6 perfect pitch and one Floyd Rose string ;) ).

    First of all great video! I'm having some issues setting up my Evertune. I have a question. You know how with a regular bridge guitar when you pick a note and check your tuner the note sometimes fluctuates a bit after eventually settling on the "in tune" desired note? On an evertune bridge is it meant to be spot on all the time?without fluctuation? Or are they still expected If in zone 2? Basically when I check my tuner on all strings, for most strings as soon as I pick the note the tuner shows the note as in tune without any fluctuation. But for two strings the note fluctuates a bit and then lands on the in tune desired note. Does this mean those strings aren't in zone 2?

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    ShredGuitar Afraz Great Question! It should be pretty dead on when you’re in Zone 2. I think the tuner will fluctuate a tiny bit only because its searching for the note to begin with. Keep in mind every time you stop tuning or supplying the tuner with signal it resets itself. But once it has found the note you shouldn’t have fluctuations while in Zone 2. For instance, when you’re in Zone 2 and you strum super hard, the note should still be in tune. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! 🤘🏼😜

    @@MadManMusic thanks for the quick response! Ok yes the tuner signal thing makes sense. Another thing I wanted to confirm, so as I understand all the tuning is meant to be done in zone 2. After using the hex key to tune a string, do we need to recheck if the string is still in zone 2 using the headstock tuners?

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    ShredGuitar Afraz No Prob! Yes, all Tuning is done in Zone 2. You’ll prepare the string and start winded the Tuning Machine until the tension is taught and you begin to hear the the pitch of the string is no longer going up while you’re still turning the machine. The. You’ll know you’re in Zone 2. Fine tune with the Hex Key. Then once all of that is done, you’ll continue to turn the tuning machine until the pitch of the string starts to raise again. Once it does, turn the tuning machine back down right until the pitch is back where it should be. At this point you’ll be just under the “Bend-Stop”. This is the most ideal place to be. You’ll stay in tune but you’ll also be able to bend the notes. Hope that helps! 🤘🏼😊

    Mad Man Music when tuning, is it better to be right in the middle of zone two, beginning, or right before zone 3 where it’s able to bend? Or does it not matter as long as it’s somewhere in 2?

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@danieloswald2210 Zone 2 is pretty vast and forgiving. You dont need to be in the middle per se but you want to try to be far enough away from the bendstop that your fine tuning adjustments dont bring your pitch above that threshold. So I’d say give it a little slack into Zone 2 then do your fine tuning. When you’re comfortable with the system you’ll know what you can get away with. Great question! I hope my answer helped! 🤘🏼😜

    Two questions. I have mine set to bend but I noticed it takes WAY more effort to bend than any of my other guitars. And I've had extended scale instruments before. Bending a half step is fine but I really have to put some force behind it if I want to bend a whole step. Is that normal? I tried a few times to make it a bit more sensitive but failed. Next question is all but one of my 'modules' is perfectly smooth when turning. If I tune the low E fine tuner up or down, it's very rough feeling, almost like it's grinding on something. Is that normal and if not is there a way to remedy it without replacing the module itself? It's not causing tuning problems it's just a minor annoyance.

  • @MadManMusic

    @MadManMusic

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey dude! Thanks for the Questions! Grinding…. Is not Normal.. so lets assess that. Remember when you have tuned the guitar “within is allowed parameters” everything should be smooth. So if you’re experiencing something thats not relatively normal to the feel of any other guitar seek a technician. Quick tip: after you’ve set your Base Tuning in Zone 2 and you‘re setting yourself up to bend, try this trick to get as close as possible to the “Bend Stop”. As you increase the tension on the tuning machine for a particular string, ise your right hand to pull up on the that string. You’ll here a noticeable “Click” sound as you’re pulling up on the string. This literally IS the Bend Stop. So add tension until the Click goes away. Then detune slightly. And you should be in an ideal Bend Position. If its still difficult to bend after that, consider a Lighter Gauge String Set. I hope that helps! Let me know! 🤘🏼😜

    I'm thinking of buying an Evertune-equipped guitar but I am unsure about it as the purpose of this guitar is to alter tunings, not overly regularly but enough to make it a consideration. I have two guitars with floating bridges that I don't have the will to even consider alternate tunings. What are your thoughts on this? Should I part with the extra cash for the ET bridge or just get one with a standard fixed? Can you re-tune a whole step on the tuners in the bridge? (a whole step E standard to D across all strings is likely the most I would detune). Great video though...

    There is only one way to have Alternate Tunings on a ET Equipped Guitar. And thats to Set the system to the lowest tuning and tune it up from there. But in tuning it up, you’re basically nullifying the the effect of the tension system and you’ll be susceptible to the string thats tuned up going out of tune.. Something like Drop D to E wouldnt be too bad because the only string you’ll have to watch the tuning on would be that Low D string that you’ve tuned up to E. I hope that makes sense! 🤘🏼😜
