In this Airalo eSIM activation guide and review, we've detailed step-by-step how to buy & activate your eSIM on an iPhone. This tutorial covers exactly how to use the Airalo app, including purchasing, how to contact customer support & installation. At the end, I've also included a Google Maps trick to help you save data while you travel.
*IMPORTANT: Check the Validity Period before you install your eSIM as SOME activate as soon as they're installed. I didn't mention this in the video, and it's very important to check.

    great video. unfortunately I had dreadful problems installing the airlo eSim. I spent 3 hours on chat support, first they mistook another of my sims for theirs, then none of 3 install methods worked. eventually worked out it was because I was on work wifi, switched wifi off and used 4G network and it installed straight away. also asked me which of my current plans (I have 2 existing sims) I wanted to switch off....? - would be useful to add details around those for others trouble shooting, in your great vid.

Being able to stop, start and rewind the video as though I was being given a personal installation session from you was brilliant. You covered everything I would see and I am now more confident in the esim installation this time. Fingers crossed it all works out once I'm away and more importantly no extra charges from my current provider when I return home. Wish me luck. Many, many thanks.

    Hey Rose! Lots of luck for your trip. As long as you have data roaming toggled off on your primary SIM and Allow Mobile Data Switching toggled off on your eSIM then your carrier shouldn't charge you any roaming fees. If they still do, then let me know as I will personally visit their houses and throws eggs at them, because that's entirely unfair. All the best! ^Jonny

    No you don't need to turn it off entirely, you could just toggle Data Roaming to off on your primary SIM. • @alicemoyle

    Hey there! Thanks for your really helpful video! I would really appreciate your advice for my situation! I am from Australia and looking to purchase an E-Sim for an upcoming trip in a few months. I will be travelling to the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. I am just a little confused when it comes to the lines chosen to make sure that I don't get any nasty unexpected charges. The other thing is that my home network provider doesn't actually have international roaming available, therefore I am not sure how I would even get charged. Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway? I just get a little lost on knowing how my apps work and how i can be contacted when overseas picking different lines. I guess if the e-sim is chosen for calls and texts (no one from home will be calling or sending normal text messages therefore no charges) however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim? Hopefully this all makes sense! Looking forward to hearing from you. :)

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    Hey Alice! I'll try to help answer your questions the best I can and I've broken them down into sections. Firstly, switch data roaming off on your personal sim card, just to make sure you avoid any unexpected data roaming charges. I referenced this here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gWacqdmJhpexj9Y.htmlsi=Vraaylt2DdA3Y72n "Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway?" - Are you looking to get a Discover+ eSIM so you not only have data but you can also use it to make calls and texts? "however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim?" - Yes, exactly, but for this to occur you'll need to select your Primary sim for iMessage & FaceTime. Airalo also reference this in their activation guide (kzread.info/dash/bejne/foN3ypdvibzchbw.htmlsi=-a3NpDQZ6mOzHjbE). BY selecting your home number, you'll receive messages and FaceTime calls while using the cellular data with your eSIM. I'll wait to hear from you, thanks. ^Jonny

    This is so helpful! Question! In keeping your default line primary, that ensures we can call out in case of emergency right? I’m boarding my pets & want to be able to call the vet for updates. (So much to think about when traveling abroad 😂)

    This is a great video, but I have a question... at 7:10 you indicate that for iMessage you should select "Primary" to use your regular plan for messages and facetime. If you do that will you not incur data charges while traveling? I would think you would want to select 'personal' for the eSim plan here. If you select Primary because you aren't traveling YET how do you get back to this option to select the eSim plan for your trip?

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    Ай бұрын

    Hey! Yeah that's actually what Airalo recommends, you select iMessage as Primary so you can still receive iMessages and FaceTime calls, but it won't use your data because your Mobile Data will be set to your eSIM. ^Jonny

    I opted for a physical SIM from Optus $35 deal for 90 gb for 28 days. I bought it at Brisbane airport. The process was very quick and seamless. Unfortunately, upon ‘recharging’ for the next 28-days the cheaper option of $12 for less data is only a 7-day deal. So you end up paying $35 again to get the 28-day allowance.

    Regarding the activation when you arrive at your destination: do you have switch from primary to e-sim for ‘Mobile Data’ (the first option in the very top) and for ‘default voice line’?

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    2 ай бұрын

    Yeah switch Mobile or Cellular Data to your Airalo eSIM and turn of Allow Mobile Data Switching to off. Default voice line could remain as your primary SIM IF you want to still receive and make calls, but if not just switch it to your new eSIM. Of course if you don't have one with text and calls then you won't be able to use it for that. ^Jonny

    To avoid any roaming charges what should I do with the set up? Primary or personal? Still a bit confused with default line? If I press personal what will happen and can I do primary for the rest like mobile data and imsg+facetime

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    21 күн бұрын

    When it comes to the Default Line, if you want to continue receiving calls and texts then keep this as primary, for mobile data you want to select your Airalo eSIM and for FaceTime & iMessages you want to keep this as primary. That way you will still receive FaceTime/iMessages but your phone will use your Airalo eSIM for data. ^Jonny

    That's up to you, you want to make sure data roaming is toggled off on your primary line, but if you want extra peace of mine and you don't need to receive calls or texts to your primary line then Toggle Turn This Line to off. This isn't essential for the Airalo eSIM to work, but it does provide greater peace of mind and assurance that your primary SIM won't roam. ^Jonny

    That's if you don't want to use your eSIM data. But you don't need to turn it off manually, once your phone connects to a WiFi network it will disable data usage. But if you're p[erhaps worried about the reliability of the network, then do switch your Data Roaming to Off on the eSIM. You can always turn it back on once you disable or leave the WiFi network. ^Jonny

  • @Monitodotcom

    It doesn't really matter. Personally I would do this upon arrival, if I was flying this would be just as I land at the airport. However, you could toggle it on before, as it won't actually start using the data until you connect to a supported network. This would likely take place as soon as you land or cross into the border of whichever country or region you're travelling to. ^Jonny
