Im thoroughly confused as to why you're using a special straw at all 🤷. Why not prepare it like tea using some sort of tea bag that can strain out the plant media? Does that change the flavor or something?

my straw is double action type and it gets really hard to use it because it gets obstructed. I used to have the spoon type and never had any problem with it. Any advise you can give me? Thx.

When I started drinking, panicked a little when all I was getting was a gritty taste in my mouth. Watched the vid. Built the mountain of mate, added my water and the rest is history

Just place the bombilla in the hole, add water, and sip. Should work just fine.

I always wondered if there is difference in nutritional value in different cuts? like when in a certain cut there are leaves and alot of twigs, does that carry as much nutrition per gram than a fine cut only leaves mate? thanks

  • @Circleofdrink

It varies from mate to mate, soil composition, genetics, how it was processed, etc., but it's safe to say that most of the nutrition comes from the leaves, not the stems. With that said, I still prefer to have mate with stems, as it helps balance the taste and makes it easier to manage within the mate ecosystem (gourd). There are also some nutrients that are concentrated on the stems.

Nutrition from the leaves. The particular cut isn't as important as the content of the cut. A finer cut will be more concentrated by volume though. My mass the nutritional content should be the same. Although it will extract easier from powder.

There´s a little "stem" at the bottom of my gourd, making the insertion of my bombilla kinda difficult (have to work my way around it). So it´s never really in the center but slightly off to the side... Should I remove this stem and risk injuring the gourd or just go with it? cheers

Had the same problem, i had broken my stem off, all good now, it shouldn't damage you gourd itself, just be carefull

I tried three bombillas, and all of them became oxidized after some time. Were they too cheap? Do I have to throw them away?

  • @willneverforgets3341

Probably they were cheap. Good ones should hold. Also after washing make sure they dry out before storing.
