How to use a torque limiting socket / extension.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Steve shows you a set of Blue Point torque limiting sockets. Then he puts them to the test during a tire rotation.

Finally somebody that shows how this is done correctly, not hammering at the lugnut long after it bottomed out potentially changing the final torque setting.🏆👍

Torque Test Channel has slow motion testing. They say a battery powered impact can overtorque because of the extra hits per second. Torque wrench is recommended. It's all in the twist.

There's some dumb comments toward the bottom of this section. If you get familiar with these torque sockets AND your impact, then you do not have to follow with a torque wrench. You have to be sure that you are familiar and comfortable with that, but they do work within parameters that you can establish

How much lower should the torque stick be than the final torque specification ? Wouldn't you just use the lowest stick because you're only snugging the lugs down ? If you are using a patterned stepped torque sequence, the wrench would be used to finish the job anyway.

Honestly, I like my new way of doing it better. I’m using a 12V bit driver to snug them down. That driver can’t torque down more than maybe 40 or 50 foot pounds. Then I finish with the torque wrench.

But I don't understand. Whats the point of the torque wrench. For example, if you use 100ft-lb torque limiting socket, the impact gun applied that torque to the lug nut, then what's the point of thr torque wrench then.

The torque sticks are good, but not a precision tool. To get consistent wheel nut torque, you need a torque wrench.

@@ToolDemos Again, why use this worthless tool if you have to follow it with an actual torque wrench ...?? Put the lug nuts ON by hand with the socket and extension until it stops ... Do that X times for all the lug nuts. Then use the torque wrench to torque them all down .... Thats been the way since forever. Now this worthless tool comes out and you still have to follow it with an actual torque wrench. A torque stick followed by a torque wrench? That is incorrect, and a waste of time. You obviously didn't read the instructions. I've been using torque sticks only (following the instructions) for over 20 years, and never had a problem. I verify them with a torque wrench follow-up on random vehicles throughout the month. If I ever find one out of spec, I'll replace the set. I still have my original extension style, with a set of sockets I set aside just for them. They've always been in spec because I use them properly.

They are a safety device to regulate the torque output by your gun that would otherwise not be measurable at all. You don't need a whole set like he has here, a lower output torque extension and a flip socket set would work great and they're pretty cheap.
