Used mine today. Spattered but never sprayed. Released some pressure. Held up-right. I was trying to apply paint to vinyl siding that I had installed moments earlier. I cleaned the surface of oil and grease to get a clean surface. Filled bottle with my latex paint. Finished filling with FloTrol to ‘cut’ the product to be applied. Nothing but a few spatters.

Would this sprayer give a high quality job for furniture painting please?

Do you recommend this preveal sprayer or a tall spray can to paint a 35" five drawer metal cabinet? Right now is blue but I want to paint it red

I have followed these directions to the tee, yet whenever I begin to spray the paint freely flows through the vent hole. HELP!

The instructions in this video are the most effective methods we have found to overcome some of the problems that occur when using the spray unit. We do not manufacture these units they are manufactured by the PreVal Company www.preval.com . There are some occasions where no matter what you do, the unit just gives you problems. That is why we stress performing the "upside down" spray technique before you start. That seems to resolve most situations in the very beginning. If your unit just refuses to work, it is possible that it is defective and needs replaced.

Thank you. Very informative. I would have definitely shaken it like a spray paint can. Doh! And started swearing when it didn’t work. I bought one of these years ago for some reason and have never used it. I was just looking at electric spray guns on a couple of websites and the Preval showed up! Eureka I thought. Maybe I won’t have to buy one for my project! I’m wondering how much surface you get out of the unit before you have to use a new one. I have a 10 ft credenza I want to paint- 6 drawers, 4 doors, top, sides - I’m wondering if it would cost more in the long run than buying an inexpensive gun. In any case I’m glad to find your video. I can definitely do all the hardware with this.

Glad you got some benefit from the video. The manufacturer states that it will spray approximately 16oz of material. I have found that statement fairly accurate and have even sprayed more than that. On the other hand, I have also had them spray much less. It just depends on the individual unit I guess and what material you are spraying.

Excellent instructional video. If you were to keep pushing the sprayer button, how long (say in Minutes) would it function? Just trying to get an idea of how much propellant is in the can so I would know approximately when to purchase another unit. Thanks.

The unit is designed to spray approximately 16 ounces of material. This, of course, will vary depending upon the material being sprayed and how the unit is used. But this will give you an idea of what you can expect.

The preval cap(white threaded cap) will be tightly attached to the bottle. The preval itself (metal can) will twist inside the white cap freely.

Hello. Thanks for these hints. I used a Preval sprayer for the first time yesterday and it was an absolute disaster! I didn't shake it, or hold the unit incorrectly but I could not get it to work properly. I had to keep dismantling it and wash it out but then it only sprayed well for a few seconds. The canister was very cold so after watching your video, I realise now it was probably frozen. The other issue I had was trying to find the correct dilution for my paint. I diluted the water based paint as instructed but the paint just dripped off my piece of furniture! Will the Preval operate correctly with thicker paint? Thanks for your help.

Opps that was not the problem....I tried with just water and only gas comes out and it back blows bubbles into the bottle ---any other tricks? It refuses to suck paint up the supply tube.

I have found that when it "back blows", It has either "spit and frozen, or, the tiny pipe which the nozzle is attached to had become plugged with dried paint material. Also, the hole in the spray nozzle can also become plugged with dry material which will cause the same problem. Using a small straight pin, poke the needle into the holes of these and clear the obstruction. That should correct the problem.

@@LeathermagicInc WELL I REACHED OUT TO COMPANY AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A BAD LOT OF CANS OF GAS....I RETURNED AND GOT REPLACEMENT WHICH WORKED JUST OK. APPRECIATE YOUR REPLY.

Got one today follow instructions including like this video says don't waste your time does not work at all it's a piece of s***won't even spray water let alone paint

It’s overall a gimmick. Rattle cans are superior. No matter what you do it’s going to sputter, spit, and leak.

This product suuuuuucks. It's nice when it works, but they have so many quality control issues they're just not worth the effort.

I agree that there are better spray method available. We do not manufacture these spray units, but they are the most cost effective and useful tools for small spray applications. When we run across individuals experiencing unresolvable issues with the units we sometimes will recommend using different spray equipment such as a small air brush. However, these require an air compressor and many people do not have access to one. Therefore, the PreVal is the best option.

This thing sucks worse than any paint I’ve ever used. Terrible Use actually convinced yourself it’s reasonable to have to do all of these things in hopes it will do what it’s supposed to? Spray!

There are much better spray methods and equipment that work for these projects, but they require air compressors and equipment. Most people do not have air compressors nor air brushes or HVLP touch-up guns. This is the only reason we supply the PreVals in our kits. They are aggravating but they do work as an inexpensive alternative.

How long does the canister last when spraying a shellac liquid finish’s on a wood project? How much liquid does the bottle/container hold?

The PreVal unit is merely a pressurized canister which is attached to a bottle containing the paint or spray medium. It draws the material up from the bottle, atomizes and propels it onto the surface to which the paint is being applied, similar to an aerosol spray can. The manufacturer states that it contains enough propellant to spray approximately 16 oz of material.
