Thank you Nico! I was hoping you would be the first one with it after I saw there was going to be an event in Finland. Time proved us film shooters right. In 2006 when the last film SLR was discontinued, I said "Just like Black and White did not die when color arrived, film photography will not die"

I notice a lot people posting comments that they don't like this camera etc etc, but this camera is not aimed at people ("photo nerds") looking at Nico's channel, but it's trying to attract a new younger generation who only know digital. Time will tell if it does attract them.

I don't get all the negative comments by many people. They are claiming it's too expensive & better to buy a used 1970s camera. The thing is Used film cameras are not cheap & are not reliable at all. I can't give explanation for some people who might find it pleasing when their used old film camera brokes (mechanical) or just dies (electronic). Maybe they like self inflected pain 😬. Many of us don't have the knowledge to repair it ourselves when it breaks & cameras with electronics (like the canon Ae1, Nikon f3, Pentax me) need someone skilled to do so. And quite a lot of us are not lucky to have a person/store near our place that still repairs film cameras in this day & age. And how can anyone buy Leica film camera? It cost the same as a car where I'm based. So I'm really happy Pentax has launched this new film camera.

I don't (yet) understand, why they move the lens electronically everytime while you have to set the focus manually. Seems unnecessary and to be something that'll break and doesn't serve any purpose 🤔

They can still cheap out on an autofocusing system this way while ensuring that focusing in flash modes is mostly correct and the user doesn’t have to worry about focusing then… That means the user can determine the focus in most of the manual modes and the camera just executes what it’s told and in the auto modes it just sets to a pre determined position for hyperfocus so that everything between about about a meter and infinity appears sharp due to the aperture probably beeing stopped down all the way…

i thought it would be, I have a Olympus pen EE3, and I usually get 78 shots a roll, and I try not to overshoot a scene so I can have a good change of creating a decent Diptych .. but I can fly through about 15 - 30 shots on a hike, or if I'm doing something fun with my kids or my friends. it funny cause when shooting digital, a lot of people just spray and pray, and people who shoot film are usually more thoughtful with each shot. with a half frame you can kinda meet in the middle :)

Kinda cool camera altogether, but really, they couldn't be bothered to add a retention ring at the end of the battery door screw to prevent it from coming out? Literally every single camera from the last 60 years I've seen has something like that, I hope that's not representative of the attention to detail they put on the rest of the camera... Edit: just saw that ghost flash position on the mode dial, I guess they indeed didn't put that much care into the overall design or user experience. The lens cap warning is pretty cool though, I'll give them that.

Nice it seems nice. I don't know how consistent it is, looking at it it seems a lot of plastic. Undoubtedly a curious camera, just for its half format. Beyond the new signs of life of Pentax, albeit under the aegis of Ricoh, I would say that for the price, absolutely for amateurs only, and the qualities, when I want to relax with analog, I hold on tightly to my Nikon F5 with all my lens park.... for the rest I have my Z8 and the Z6 as a mule. Thanks for the nice video. Best regards.

The lo-fi aesthetic is what they desire, so if you’re thinking that you don’t like this because the image quality isn’t high enough then ask yourself: am I older than 28?

It is tailored for a market of young photographers who wants a swag tool to shoot cool pictures to post on social media with #shotonfilm... And I think it is well tought for this target. Sample pictures looks nice and sharps, design is simple and efficient... If it was not the price I would buy one for my kid. Don't listen to the rats, they're just haters. They compare a piece of plastic junk like a Lomo, or an Olympus that's been rotting away in some grandpa's attic for 60 years, to a brand new premium compact camera, with a Program mode, a sharp prime lens, an exposure compensation dial, a magnesium alloy top and bottom, a film advance lever and rewind knob. All for only $500. There are no good new digital or film cameras for $500, and none with all the features this one has, in a compact body that fits in your pocket...

It might get some traction in the young Japanese market. But outside of that, unless they bung a few gen z street photographers a bribe to promote it, it's going to be overlooked. When it comes to things like this, young people want things that were originally targeted towards the people they aspire to be, not things specifically designed for them. It's the 'mom bought your clothes for you' vibe.
