How to Use a Paper Stump for Drawing

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this short tutorial I introduce artists to the paper stump and the graphite stick. They are both useful tools when drawing in graphite. I also show how to sharpen and clean the paper stump. Growing up in the 50s/60s the only show on TV for children to learn art was "Jon Gnagy Learn to Draw". He sold a kit with supplies and an instruction book, but my father wouldn't waste money on buying it for me. I remember it had a stump and sandpaper. So interesting to see you explain how they are used. I'm wanting to help my GDs learn to draw.

if I am doing a large area and wish to keep the blend consistent should I clean the stump when it gets shiny with the charcoal or penciel intermittent or just keep my preshure consistent.

Hi #Mindy. I don't think you mentioned at grade the sandpaper is ( from x-fine to x-coarse ). Could you advise, please, or does the grade not matter? Thanks.

Just switched my KZread channel and found comments from a while back. TO answer your question .... You want to use a fine sandpaper. It will work the best and give you better results than course.
