My dog keeps pulling the leash keeps pulling down choking my dog. I have to move it up like 10 times every walk. Very annoying.

I have a hard time keeping the slip lead at the top of the neck for my Labrador. Any tips?

I really love your products. And I love the traditional feeling they invoke. I like the brass and the leather so much, and the quality of the rope is great. Gotta say, nice video but I would have rather seen a video that was not animated, just a real live video of a mendota trainer and a real dog demonstrating how to properly use the slip lead. I have purchased them and am learning to use them, just last month now and funny to find you have just put out this video. I found it by visiting your website for the first time just a few minutes ago. I wonder how important it is that the lead is coming away from the dog on the side as opposed to the top of the neck? And i realize the objective is as you say here, to have your dog stay to your side, always to just one side presumably, is implied of course. And I wonder how your Mendota dog walker I just came across compares to this classic style lead. It is less directional? Meaning does it require you stay on one side of the dog as much? It says it doesn't tighten around the dogs neck like the slip lead does, it seems to be saying, which i find is the issue with the slip lead, that it tightens up and doesn't loosen. I have been using it loose though, not up around the top of the neck. And with the dog walker, do you also recommend using it up around the top of the neck as you do the slip lead? Thank you!

Hi Earther, thanks for the kind words. We work hard to make the best high quality Made in USA products that you enjoy. The slip lead can be used in two ways. The first is to just walk your obedient dog who has no issues with pulling and the second is to train your dog to walk without pulling. This video is primarily for people who want to train their dog to walk. If your dog is a good walker, just throw the loop over the dog's head and start walking. To train your dog to walk next to you and not pull, you should follow the directions on the video. We have found this work best to train your dog to walk obediently. The dog walker is similar to the slip lead but does not fully close as the slip lead does. If your dog wears the slip lead on the middle of bottom of the neck and you are concerned about choking, use the dog walker. Keeping the slip lead at the top of the neck is what trains the dog to walk and not pull. The dog walker can be used anywhere on the neck, whereas for training, the slip lead works best at the top of the neck using the stopper.

Sorry for the late response. Two ways of using the slip lead or the dog walker. For dogs that are trained and do not pull, you can just slip the lead over the neck and not really worry about placement on the neck or whether the dog is next to you or in front of you. For dogs that pull, it's imperative that the lead is fitted at the top of the neck just behind the ears and they walk next to you. This is important because it gives you the most control and eliminates the choking that can happen if the lead is in the middle or bottom of the neck. After a while, the pulling dog will not pull anymore and your walk will be much more enjoyable.
