    Dialing the spreader knob back to half to avoid over-application is something that never occurred to me-and that's why Silver Cymbal is the best. Of course, I have a way to go before I can afford a way-cool spreader with REAL tires instead of plastic discs, but I'm just getting started! But here's the thing: While producing these videos (which takes time over and above keeping his lawn looking great), these videos give people knowledge that they can keep, free of charge for the rest of their lives. Is there anything more noble than a great teacher-at any age? I submit there is not! Thanks, SC, and keep 'em coming.

    Good tips. I'm a professional cricket groundsman. First thing. If you haven't got pneumatic tyres and a hopper that can accommodate 20kgs (about 40lbs) then don't bother. Recycle the spreader you bought with clunky wheels and plastic gears. Use a contractor instead. If you have, yes, get your tyre pressures correct so the distribution isn't listing to one side. Never spread on a windy day. Spread in still air before rain is expected. One pass is hopeless, two is better, three or four will produce professional results. It is a case of less and often. Ignore the dials and manuals, just look at the hopper opening and set it to very narrow and travel over the area 3 or 4 times. When you are finished, thoroughly hose down the machine in an area that doesn't pollute a watercourse or affect wildlife. All the ingredients of a granular fertiliser are water soluble but often corrosive. Sit your washed out spreader in the sun to dry completely. Afterwards spray all moving parts or exposed or powder coated metal with an aerosol penetrating oil such as WD40. Unwashed a spreader will last 2 years before disappearing in a pile of rust. Washed dried and oiled I have 2 that are 20 years old.

    Awesome video ! ~ quick question, i live in Miami Florida and our property is just over a quarter acre. It's ALL sand and weeds. It's a grey dirty kind of sand (if you've been to Florida , you'll know what I mean) ~ a friend of mine, also Floridian , suggested i use a lawn spreader filled with limestone to kill the weeds and that the grass LOVES it and will grow like crazy. My question though , is do i have to get some sort of top soil or specific soil prior to spreading grass seeds ? Also , if i do the limestone treatment, do i do that first and get all the dead weeds out and THEN do the soil and spread grass seeds ? I'm kinda confused , cuz my friend told me the limestone itself will inspire the grass 2 grow, the weeds clearly have no problem growing, but i really want to have that nice fluffy grass u can run around in barefoot and lie down in and not get covered in dirty sand; which is very hard to achieve down here. Any tips on that ? ~ thank u for ur video ! Very informative! ✌✌

    I know this is an older video but I hope you can help me as I'm a senior female, who knows nothing about lawn care other than mowing and pulling weeds, but now find myself in a position of having to do it all myself. I live on a corner so I have a lawn that's wider around the curb and narrows as I move towards the house. I also have 4 trees, a lot of small "nooks & crannies" and flower beds around 3 sides of the house with 2 being very curvy. Last but not least, my lawn is extremely lumpy and bumpy. With all these obstacles, I am beginning to think it will be impossible to avoid over lapping and missing places as well. How can I do areas where there's not even 5ft of space or less or where I can't get all the way to the lawn's edge? HOW DO I STAY STRAIGHT when I have no wheel marks to follow (I have not a shadow of a doubt I will be walking like I was drunk)?? If I used a drop spreader I'd have wheel marks to follow, I'm told they're much less forgiving and I'd still have the other issues (I do have both). I apologize the lengthy post but I'm at my wits end and praying that you see this and respond. Thank you.

    Good tips! When you drop that side deflector thing, don't you end up with a very fertilizer-rich stripe along that side? Like if your spreader shoots 5' in either side, isn't the result that all 5' of fertilizer from one side is concentrated in a few inches along the wheel line?

  • @Ty.92

    @Ty.92

    2 жыл бұрын

    You may have found the answer by now, but if not here it is. Usually with spreaders or at least this one in particular (I use this one everyday as I’m a lawn care tech) there’s a system similar to bicycle brake cables. Theres a knob you push in and it pushes a steel cable which is connected to a metal hole blocker to cover the third hole inside the hopper. So the fertilizer flow is reduced to compensate for when you have the guard down and won’t be too heavy an application on that side. And with the same knob you simply pull out to expose the third hole again when not running the guard

    #1 sounds perfect.You don't have to ever use organic but you can alternate like I do when the grass is a mature 2months+ old. PGF complete is fertilizer with Humic acid in it. Hey Sliver Cymbal, I just got myself PGF Complate few days ago and wanted to ask you couple of questions. Right now, I am using the Scotts' products. And its almost fall here in Texas. The one that I will be applying in few days is called Scotts Turf Builder winterguard fall weed and feed. Do you think I can also use PGF Complate together? By the way, your videos are very helpful. Hope to hear back from you doc.
