Hi Derek, another easily to understand video from your good self, just one little comment and that is at 14:25 you stated that the Co2 was 5.2 when in fact you meant O2. I’m not being picky but when you are producing educational videos which relate to the safety of the public, you must make sure that you are being 100% accurate with you descriptions as some students may remember this information and use it in the field. Apart from that keep up the good work, we need more people like you to educate the new coming engineers.

Small but important point. The analyser should never be placed on the boiler case when taking full combustion test. Flue gas temperature. Gross minus ambient = net. By placing the analyser on case distorts the ambient temperature due to analyser measuring the case temperature instead of room ambient temperature.

Where in the regs does it say about condensing boiler being 0.004 and a non condensing being 0.008? I thought it was 0.004 for all appliances and 0.008 was a British Gas procedure applying to a boiler that's just been serviced.

Bs 7967 2015 gives the results on using a flue gas analyser. All appliances could have different readings most analyser come with a card with the results if you watch all my videos on using an analyser you will see the card
@davidscott32927 ай бұрын
Why does a more efficient boiler give a higher CO reading?
@tomkatgastraining
7 ай бұрын
Because they are forced draft burners with no post air
@markrainford12192 жыл бұрын
What causes a highly efficient appliance to produce more CO than a less efficient appliance, given that CO is a product of incomplete combustion?
@tomkatgastraining
2 жыл бұрын
Because condensing boilers are not atmospheric and they use the fan to suck the gas in they produce incomplete combustion so more co is produced

Derek what if a reading of CO2 was higher than allowed tollerance in MI An engineer told me if can't adjust just note as NCS
@tomkatgastraining
Жыл бұрын
If the co2 is high and it takes the ratio over tolerance that would be classed as AR not NCS. You can try and adjust the zero governor gas vale as long as it’s your last hope after a full strip down service.
@Luke-yy1fq
Жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining no the ratio is fine under 0.004 just high co2 over mi Derek. Got told it's NCS in future
@tomkatgastraining
Жыл бұрын
@@Luke-yy1fq it’s the ratio that comes under unsafe situations not the co2. And yes most engineers won’t try and adjust if the ratio is ok because the heat exchanger will need cleaning if the co2 is incorrect.

I prefer do flue integrity test before doing hi and low Combustion tests as the analyser has been freshly purged. Doing it the way in the video the analyser sensors are not clear from Combustion and more likely to miss any small co in the inlet flue.
@tomkatgastraining

There are no results for co in any of the standards it only says about co2 of less than or equal to 0.2 and the o2 equal to or greater than 20.5 .

Why does a more efficient boiler give a higher CO reading?
@tomkatgastraining

Because they are forced draft burners with no post air
What causes a highly efficient appliance to produce more CO than a less efficient appliance, given that CO is a product of incomplete combustion?
@tomkatgastraining

Because condensing boilers are not atmospheric and they use the fan to suck the gas in they produce incomplete combustion so more co is produced

10/9=1.11/10000 is it 0.00011 or 0.0011,anyway great video,best tutor
Is there any point in the NOx reading when doing domestic flue gas analysis?

I’m looking at buying the Kane 458s cpa1 kit. I don’t think this FGA comes with an o2 measurement standard though and you need to pay an extra £450 for it do you think it’s better going for a different FGA because of this?
Derek what if a reading of CO2 was higher than allowed tollerance in MI An engineer told me if can't adjust just note as NCS

If the co2 is high and it takes the ratio over tolerance that would be classed as AR not NCS. You can try and adjust the zero governor gas vale as long as it’s your last hope after a full strip down service.

@@tomkatgastraining no the ratio is fine under 0.004 just high co2 over mi Derek. Got told it's NCS in future

@@Luke-yy1fq it’s the ratio that comes under unsafe situations not the co2. And yes most engineers won’t try and adjust if the ratio is ok because the heat exchanger will need cleaning if the co2 is incorrect.
Had so many troubles with kane I've got 2 machines and from new nothing but troubles . This afternoon got to buy a new one as both machines can't be trusted.

Flueless appliance - how do you find ratio?

Great lesson - only undermined by the incessant background music which is unnecessary and distracting

I prefer do flue integrity test before doing hi and low Combustion tests as the analyser has been freshly purged. Doing it the way in the video the analyser sensors are not clear from Combustion and more likely to miss any small co in the inlet flue.

HPE Heating and plumbing Engineer the analyser was purged back to zero and the o2 was at 20.9 so and the co doesn’t count in the integrity it’s the co2 and 02 . Thanks for watching and your comment cheers 👍🏻

@@tomkatgastraining it makes it quicker to do the job doing the imtegrity first. As for co in the outer flue does matter as it shows the inner flue may be split or a whole in it.

There are no results for co in any of the standards it only says about co2 of less than or equal to 0.2 and the o2 equal to or greater than 20.5 . I have found flues with holes in that read perfectly also but normally we get a very rusty boiler if the flue has gone lol . Thanks for your input it’s always a pleasure to talk to fellow engineers cheers

@@Heatingandplumbing1 really doesn't matter which way around you do the flue integrity test as long as it's done. I prefer like most to do this 1st but many others do integrity after (mixed opinions). 😊

Sorry! Im working on these boilers on LPG Your probably using Natural Gas
