UPDATE: On Jan 22, the Land Transport Authority said it will be extending the existing card-based ticketing (CBT) system beyond June 1, to operate on the SimplyGo platform. It means adult commuters will still have the option of using their ez-link and Nets FlashPay cards on public transport. READ MORE: str.sg/E2Gi If they wish, commuters who have bought SimplyGo cards or converted their ez-link cards to SimplyGo from Jan 9 can exchange their cards to a CBT ez-link card free of charge.

This is not Upgrade. Just the authorities forcing blindfolds onto commuters so they will not know that they had been overcharged.

I once ate at Newton hawker center and was overcharged for food because they didn't display the price on the menu. They said I can't prove it and it is too expensive to pursue the matter. I doubt the system designers were trying to be touting ah longs, but the result is the same. But that's not the only issue. When you try to cancel a trip the service employees at the counters cannot reverse a simplygo or credit card charge. You have to call your bank. And it is impossible to deal with since banks will put you on hold for hours and their "service policies" make it impossible to reverse a trip that you did not make. Have you tried to call a call center lately??? And for pursuing a dollar, which to me is worth a lot, but maybe not to the system designers, must be more frustrating to those who has less income. The system features do not fit the requirement and does not allow the required use case features of its predecessor. Visa/Mastercard is shortchanged the public this way, don't allow them to take advantage.

Lies again? Earn Cash Ezlink Card

Why change something that is useful and lets you see the fare in a clear and timely manner whenever you tap to another that doesn't readily shows the fare? I thought user convenience, timeliness and transparency of fare charged could be viewed as fairness to both parties. Shouldn't the first considerations when designing the new system be from the average commuter's perspective? Who wouldn't prefer to clearly and immediately see how much the transport fare is on the machine we are tapping?

@ltll. I totally agree with you. Previously, I could see the balance with my old card each time I exited. So if the balance was too low, I would top up. After I changed to Simply Go, I couĺdn't see the balance with my card when I exited. I have been caught with balance too low several times The "progress" with the Simply Go card is no progress at at! SMRT may say we could download their app and checkbusing our phone. Why take so many steps to check when we could automatically be informed each time we exited? This is making us use our phone unnecessarily. SMRT's IT people have a "proper channel" mentality. If you want to know anything, the "proper channel" is the app. Otherwise, no service. This is stupid. The "proper channel" mentality causes us not to maximize opportunities. Everything "proper channel".

The problem with credit card charges is they do not give the freedom for the service counters to cancel your trip either. This feature is very important for people who entered the wrong gates, have emergencies, etc, otherwise you'll be forced to pay visa/mastercard/bank the entrance fee you did not use EZlink enables the freedom of human interaction and having the people on the ground makenpeople decisions, instead of forcing everyone to enrich visa/Mastercard further. Say no to monopolies who force an impersonal, poorly-featured, non-human controllable system for public transport. Allow human to human decision-making to shine and cover missed use cases that are ignored by the system designers. Allow more decentralised control of the system, especially refunds for simplygo, the way ezlink allows refunds and trip cancellations for reasons outside the expectations of the decision makers who are far from the situation on the ground.

1.5million is still a lot. Forcing these commuters to transition to the SimplyGo cards may not be that simple nor straightforward for some of them. Why the current system remain the way it is? Everything needed is already there. There's no more new infrastructure costs, and sunk-in costs should have already been recouped by now.

Singapore created complicated systems. Got a transport cards can travel any things, Bus, train, taxi, boat?

We pay more, we do the checking, we do the topping up, we get compact more like sardines. Technology is advancing, but the implementation is going backwards.

Yap...Just several days ago, got announcement for the public transportation's fare card must have the simply go logo, just exceptional from those who have the concession card with photos. However, Singapore wants to upgrade the digitalization towards the public transportation fare card also has its con: simply go card when tapping, doesn't shown any balance remaining, hence should need to be do some analysis in this system before make announcement to the commuters.😮😔

How about my Passion Card with Ezlink function? Can no longer be used and also cannot upgrade since there is not such thing as Passion Card with SimplyGo platform, LOL. WTF is happening? Can pls sack those JiakLiaoBees at LTA for screwing all this nonsense big time?
