I want to upgrade my old acer e1-531 and this video is really useful. Thank you. I just need to see if it's possible and worth upgrading the cpu. The only safe option seem to be the upgrade from celeron b830 to pentium 2020m.

I did the same thing. I also upgraded the i5-2450m to a i7-3630qm.

Great video - got a new sub here (even though I did this upgrade when I first got my laptop in 2013). Quick question for anyone familiar with this model - any idea what the screwed down flap is used for - next to the battery? I looked on ebay and someone called it the Wifi cover but of course the Wifi card is in the lower part!

I think so. You do have to make sure to get the compatible RAM for the Acer E1-571.

Hi, for me the 12.7mm worked the best since it is the same thickness. If you use a smaller one, I don't know if the screws will reach.

Can we set up an external graphic card?

If i change hdd to ssd DVD player to hdd my laptop perform well or not?are you sure it works?

After adding the ssd and replacing the optical drive with the original hdd, will it normally as it used to or do we need to install everything once again?

If your SSD is empty, and you want to use it for the OS, you have to install everything. Unless you can first clone your original HDD to your SSD, in which case you probably won't need to re-install. Except on the first boot, maybe some new drivers for the SSD.

I assume yes. Operating system on SSD and HDD for storage usually works.

Thank you for the video! I have this laptop for 5 years, and I'd like to keep it as much as I can (another 5!!). I have found that 8GB RAM is the official amount you can put, but in other websites they say that you can reach 16GB. Does it really worth to add it, since all the device is old? I have the 4+2 GB configuration, enough for the moment... if RAM prices decrease, I'd try to add 8GB. For the moment I will replace the HDD with an SSD, clean the fan... But I don know how to proceed with the heat. The lower cover cracked in one corner, I was thinking to search another one, but it seems quite difficult... Thanks again for this illustrating video!

Hi, I don't know about 16 Gb since I don't know if they had RAM sticks in 8 Gb configuration for this laptop. However, RAM prices are stupid right now. I find 8Gb sufficient for this model laptop.

@Another MGTOW Monk yeah but you find out the specs for the E5 series, not the E1. If you check out for example for the E1 570 (which is closed to the E1 571G), you'll see it's limited to 8Gb Ram

Hello, I have the same laptop as you and my BIOS does not show me 128MB of Video Memory but 64MB. Also it doesn't have a switchable graphics option either, is your BIOS unlocked? If so, can you provide info on where to get such BIOS? Do you know if this laptop supports 16GB of RAM instead of 8GB? I upgraded mine to 8GB but I wanted to upgrade it to 16GB if it supports it. Hi, I don't know if it supports 16 GB, I thought 8GB was max, that's why I didn't go further. And for the BIOS, yeah, it was unlocked.

Question: How do I check for RAM compatibility? I'm trying to upgrade my Acer (ASPIRE series,) laptop in RAM. Are there always two slots? I've an extra laptop which recently; I opened up. Can I just insert the other RAM to upgrade from 2g to 6gb?

Hi, if you can open the ram / hdd slot easily like in the video, just look for the other slot. I then look at the label on the RAM that is already installed and just bought the same RAM type. I'm not sure how to verify all the RAM specs, that's why I bought the same type of RAM to make sure it was compatible.

try ebay or aliexpress. I bought it locally from a distributor of laptop batteries. I don't know what brand to recommend since I had to replace it before 1 year.

If you cloned the HDD data to the SSD, no! If you want to reinstall everything to the SSD, yes!

I do not. The botting is from the bios.

I followed this meticulously. The SSD I put in shows up but has no drive letter and I can't access it. I am unable to format it also. Anyone know what the fix is? Thanks in advance!

There's probably a screw holding it in place. The screw may be underneath a sticker or rubber on the back of the laptop.

Hi there, I am not 100% sure. You would have to look at what GRUB or another bootloader is able to do. I have a hackintosh where the primary HDD is the HackOS. I then installed another SSD with Debian/Win7 that I boot into from the BIOS. IE I hit F12 and choose that boot drive when I want to go into it. So that might work.

How is the performance of the laptop after the upgrade? Is it booting fast and the apps open faster? I have the Acer aspire E1-571 and I'm thinking to upgrade to ssd (240 or 120 GB) and use hdd caddy. How will i transfer only windows and apps to ssd without the files it it possible because hdd is 500 GB if i clone to 240 or 120 GB ssd the storage will not be sufficient?

Hi there, the SSDs make all the difference. In terms of RAM, it helps to have more. As for the laptop, it had a GPU malfunction a while back and now is yet again in pieces.

Hi, I assume there won't be a difference unless you want to use the SSD for OS startup, in which case, you have to make sure in the BIOS that it is the first disk that Boots. I don't know whether there is any less speed on the secondary SATA bus, if it is shared with other peripherals. I assume the speed will be the same.

I put an i3 2370 2.4ghz on my acer e1-531, after about 30 minutes it shuts down, the temperature rises to 60 degrees, but there is a leg of heat under the mouse pad between the harddisc and memory

Hi, I'm not sure but I think that the CPU is soldered to the motherboard. You can't upgrade like in a PC where it goes in a socket. I think to get an i5, you need new mainboard.

Hi, I'm not certain. My research led me to believe that 8Gb is the maximum since this type of RAM is not usually made in 8Gb modules.

Hi man, i have an Acer Aspire E1 571 laptop, i replaced the Toshiba 5400RPM 2.5 inch 750gb HDD with an OCZ Vertex R2 Plus 2.5 inch SSD, but the SSD does not appear in BIOS and Windows Installer. My BIOS Version is 2.17, The SSD works in other computers though so nothing wrong with the SSD itself.... help me man please!!

Hi. I have Intel V213 Bios (Version 1.13) and the bios was modified. I have as boot priority USB, SATA 0 and SATA 1. I don't know what to tell you. Do the drives appear in the BIOS itself? Have you made sure that they are enabled in the boot settings or under Drive Settings?

Hi man, nevermind, i fixed it! the problem was the two plastic squares on the sata port, it blocked the SSD from going in all the way in the port, i removed them using pliers and voila SSD went all the way in and works like a charm. it appears in BIOS now, thanks!
