    So I literally just did this using the video last weekend (February 21, 2020) and It came out beautifully. I now have 16gigs in my 21.5 inch imac late 2013. It really now that hard, just need patience, courage, and a lot about an hour of your time. I've opened up my old 27 inch imac several times before so I'm used to it. But outside of that, just pay attention to which screws went were and you should be fine. Take pics if you need to. Thats what I did. Once you do it, you'll be confident in doing it again. You can almost geek out on it. Warm regards!

    lol!!!! At my work they disposed of a broken mac. It had recently upgraded from 8GB to 16GB ram so after they threw it in the trash I went and opened the Ram access panel underneath it and removed them in less than a minute to upgrade mine at home. Imagine my sad face when I got home and found out mine doesn't have an access panel because its a 21.5" late 2013 model and not only would I have to go through this long process to upgrade, but I also can't even upgrade because it only has 2 slots and I brought from work (4) 4GB memories... just my luck. Never buying a mac again...

    @@noelk6606 I'll have to video myself doing it the next time I get one. It is pretty intuitive but I assure you it can be done and it takes far less time this way. I would however recommend that you power it up before sticking the screen back down as I did this once and one of the RAM sockets wasn't seated properly (so it only recognised 1/2 the RAM) and I had to remove the screen and start again. Make sure you feel the definite "click" as you re-insert both RAM modules. I have however seen a video of at least one other guy doing it this way and I am sure there are plenty of others who do it this way. Just look at it and have a bright light handy and you will see that it can indeed be done!

Under the back stand is a square cover. Slide razor blades in the edges and pry it out. The ram slot is under there. Just did the change of RAM. Everything great except crack on the screen. I don't think the metal pizza blade is the best for glass. I seen on another video, the glue should be warmed up and used the plastic blade to open. The rest of this video is very good.

    Hi that means there is an issue with either your connection or the screen.. I recommend disconnecting the screen again, use compressed air to blow on it and the port, reconnect and restart the computer. If this doesn't work, then you've probably permanently damaged the screen and you need to replace it. I recommend buying a new iMac at that point.

  • @marley2591
    @marley25912 жыл бұрын

    Why didn’t you just unscrew the plate ( 3 screws) underneath to access the RAM slots. It literally takes 2-3 minutes. In the newer iMac it’s even easier there aren’t even any screws !

    @@MorganaDevina80 once you remove the display the connectors that block your access to the RAM are gone, now just disconnect the RAM as if the board was already flipped over, over course it isn’t but you have plenty of room to remove the RAM since the back of the iMac is curved.
