OMG... I didn't know you can update the system yourself! I bought a second hand 453 cabriolet last summer and screamed, yelled and cursed at the Smart Media System the past 6 months - sometimes really intimidating my passengers - because of the freaking radio bug. With your guide I updated the system last night and now BT reconnects itself after restarting the engine as it should be. Thanks a lot!!! I'm now waiting for a OBD2 II device to make the switch to Android Auto completely, as you've shown in another Video. I really appreciate your efforts!

Thanks for this excellent tuto. It solved (as well) the problem with the clock. Before I was unable to set up the hour as it was 2 hours late. I had 11.341 version (background blue) now I have 11.346 version (backgroun green). Keep up the good work. Cheers (from Paris)👍👍

So you have to update to get the clock to work? I currently can't set my clock and it is an hour off

Hi guys, does the Speed camera function still work on your system. I updated my maps last week via Smart media to fix the GPS problem and the speed camera's vanished. I mentioned this to Mercedes during my 453 service a few days later and they say TOMTOM removed the option due to some new EU law making it illegal to show speed cameras. I passed this on to TOMTOM and they said Mercedes are basically talking shyte and that it was Merc who asked for it to be removed. Have you heard anything on this? Cheers

I can see on your's the SD card doesn't have enough space (3:29) for the size of the updates you put on it. I assume this isnt an issue as the update just removes the old version form the card? My SD card has a similiar amount of free space as yours. Thanks

For anyone that didn't see the SD card, perhaps the smart car is used from car2go, it was cover by a plastic plate on top of the USB/ AUX port.

Nobody has mentioned anything about CarPlay as of yet so we'll have to see. We've not done the update as of yet.

Yes you're totally right. All of the previous links have died which isn't great from a website perspective. They've also removed the Info on how to resolve the GPS Time Issue that pretty much every Smart has suffered with.

So do what I mentioned in the video. Eject your SD Card and pop it in your PC, the system will then see your device.

If it hasn't been updated since April, it could be that Doing the update sorted mine - The was a GPS clock problem similar to the Millenium bug that needed to be caught up with. @elaR eF and @Carol Weir I did the update as show in the video and it solved the problem with the clock. I can now set up the hour, but I have to unchek « set the hour automatically » otherwise it will be 2 hours late. Iwas on 11.341 version now is 11.346.

@@marciorocha1009 Noticed a couple of days ago that my clock is a couple of mins out now (It was July I did the reset) My subscriptions to TomTom etc. expired end August No idea if that is the cause

can andrioid auto and carplay work on the 453?

Depends on the 453. On some of the models from 2017 you could activate Android Auto. If you have one of the newer 453 EQs then it comes as part of the car.

Can not "Add a device" because there is no cable? Easy solution ( Elmeche wrote bellow the trick) after you install the Smart Media Connect app on the PC (make an account), take the SD Card from the car and add it to the PC. The Smart Media Connect will open and let you add automatically the car to you're account. You do not need any cable for this. Also notice that TomTom is full with bugs, sometimes creating a new account will go into an stupid error. Try to contact them and will help you (for Good sake). P.S. thanks Elmeche. I searched for that cable for months :) that happens when you buy unprofessional products like TomTom with bugs and wrong informations paying a lot of money to TomTom partners (Daimler)

I don't have cable.. but when I put my sd card into the laptop.. nothing happens, I cant install noting.. HELP :)

unfortunately doesn't work anymore since it forces me to connect my computer via cable to the gps. I don't have a laptop!

Well it will still work, it's just you don't have a laptop? Other people with computers and laptops it will still work. For this update you have to remove the SD Card from your Smart 453 and insert into the computer / laptop, no cable needed.

@@AdvancedInCarTechnologies I can find a laptop, but my car is on the street, so no access to wifi! Would have to find a workaround. I will try the SD card thing. I recently changed the Clock mode from manual to Automatic and suddenly the time disappeard on the screen of the navigator and on the car it will display 1h less. Absolutely impossible to change the time again to manual. Do you have an idea of what can be done to solve this problem? thanks

Same for me. Mine says you need a usb double end to do the update which didn't come with my smart

The service has become paid, isn't there a way to update the maps for free?

This is all well and nice, or it would be if my sd card was not stuck on ADDING YOUR DEVICE!!! Seriously what a stupid system. On my mother's škoda I just downloaded a zip file, extracted it and moved it to sd card.

Well as for now so march 2021 the smart connect media and tomtom having some serious issue. As soon to start up the smart media connect app on your pc and want to update your sd card or bought extra live services, or map packs the message "our servers are very busy at the moment" pops up and this is an issue that is going on for two months now. Tomtom is aware of it but doesnt give a shit it seems as smart owners worldwide complaining about it and writing emails to tomtom. Even more annoying is the fact that tomtom customer service is non excisting no number to call and the live chat is a joke. Replies are as it seems computer generated. Worse ever service tomtom should be ashamed really!

I'll be honest - When I filmed this video all those years back it was quite a process to go through. Because of how difficult it was (And we're quite techy) I never bothered doing it again. I just wanted to get the fix for the Bluetooth. If memory serves me right, the main URL from Smart is now not active but if you access the update from TomTom it still works.

Even if you go directly on the tomtom site for the update the issue is the servers there. As soon you start up the smart connection application and log in you get the by now famous message "Our severs are very busy right now". Worse is tomtom is aware of this issue for over 2 months now and smart owners world wide complain and did send emails to the tomtom customef service...well i woudnt even call it that!! In my eyes and alot of other smart owners who even bought live services and map updates cant update because of this! Worst service ever i tell you!

You’re right, I’ve just updated my TomTom system on the PC and get the busy server error message. Seems strange why they are doing this. I guess worst case of the car is under warranty then a Mercedes Dealer should be able to do it?

@@AdvancedInCarTechnologies true, but if you read thru the tomtom forum and the posts at the "Busy servers fault" you can read about smart owners who recently bought an map update or renew their tomtom live services are not been able to apply those updates because of that busy servers issue. And to be honest i own a smart fortwo from 2015 and im sure its out off it warranty. Besides i read in the forums at tomtom someone went to Mercedes Benz dealer and asked if they could do a map update and installed a new sd card charged him 400 euro! As turned out it was still an old version! Honest if tomtom no longer supports the Smart connection media then they should inform people and not put map updates ect online and let people pay for it only to find out they cant use their bought products because that busy servers problem.
