Hi I just install CarPlay on my 2018 Mazda CX 5 Touring and I did update firmware to 74000 but some how my GPS not working after installing the original card

Mine has an old version 2015 Q4 om my 2017 Mazda 6. Latest version on the update site is Jan 2020. They want $87 for the updated maps. Guess I'll be using Google maps for FREE. Thanks Mazda.

Hi David, I am using Mazda6 2014 ultra trim, i can see the navigation system currently in my car is updated by TOMTOM update as 2013. I need to update the navigation with the most updated version. The instant I submit my car information the site takes me to another screen where they ask me what kind of phone I have and if it's capable of connecting. I could never find anywhere to download a map.

What type of infotainment system do you have? Also, Do you have a PC or Mac?

You skipped the most vital part and it is where mine keeps crashing. Are you able to download and update the latest maps.

2016 Mazda 6 Touring, I tried to update my maps, but the Toolbox says it is up to date, even though it is 2013 version. Do I need to upgrade my 51.00.351 OS upgrade first?

I went to Mazdausa.com/navigation, then plug in your cars info, and clicked on the update link. It said that there was an update made available back in December of 2018. It has a link to more details. Have you been through this process?

@@mazdadave9230 Yes that is the process I followed. Toolbox says version 2013 Q4 on my card. Update December 2018. Maybe it update to 2018 but still shows the original version?

The update is for the NAV only. I think you are saying that the Mazda connect’s firmware is the same version. If that is what you mean, and you want to update the OS, than you’ll need to have a Mazda service station do it. I am not aware of a way to update the OS yourself. Does this help?

@@mazdadave9230 When I try to upgrade map it tells me: "There is no available update for your device, or all available updates have been installed." When i go to settings>map version it says: "Version 2013 Q4" "Latest available: December 2018" Perhaps they only do free upgrades for a certain number of years?

That’s true. The map updates are free for the first 3 years. I think they’re $85.

It’s usually located in the SD card reader, next to the USB ports. Not all trims come with the NAV. You might need to buy it separately.

I brought my 2016 Grand Touring CX-5 in to Mazda Service because the Tire Pressure warning lights on the dash would not go off after Costco installed new tires. Prior to dropping my car off for service everything was in working order. The turn signals, headlights and emergency flashers worked. I know this because I had to pull over on the side of the road to let my dog go potty on my way to the dealership and used the flashers, watching them flash away while waiting for my dog. A few hours later Stevens Creek Mazda Service Department called me to tell me I needed over $850 in repairs because my turn signals, high beams and emergency flashers were not working. I kept telling them that they DID work on the way to the dealership but they would NOT listen. They made it seem as if I didn't know what I was talking about and they were doing me a favor by only charging $420 to diagnose the problem! Now they want to charge me another $850 to "Fix" it. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY MAZDA UNTIL THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WORKED ON IT! I was told that because I had a new battery installed it fried the Body control gismo. Sorry, I can't remember the exact part name. In any case, please explain to me how installing a battery 3 months ago (with all operations on the car working fine afterwards) managed to fry the gismo AFTER I brought it to the Service Department!!??? Any thoughts? Solutions? I could really use your excellent expertise Dave. Thanks again.

I have an MX-5 ND. It didn't have the sat nav from factory and getting the card from the dealer is quite expensive. Though, I can see a lot of sat map cards for mx-5 running online. Any idea if those are legit/ function properly?

I can’t comment on the legitimacy of third party stuff. Enter at your own risk. If you want to make sure you’re getting the legit thing, get it from the dealer. You get what you pay for...

Mine will not download the update. I contacted Mazda and have un-installed it, re-installed it. Turned off firewall, restarted it. You name it, I did it.

Hello Aaron. Great question. Mazda NAV is not transferable. You need to purchase a new SD Card. With your 18, I would look into installing apple car play/ android auto.

That is a great question. You should be able to, but it needs to be above a certain gig. 8 gig should be good. The free updates are for people who have previously purchased NAV, and they only get free updates for 3 years. I have been experimenting with making back ups, but they have not been working. In my research, it works for some people and not others. When I figure out how to do it, I’ll make a video. Thanks for the comment and check back later.

I called the local dealer today and I quote, this is what they told, could be bs too i'm not sure, still curious : "The dealer has a SD card that they need either give you or have you come in and they insert it. They hold the separately until after purchase so they aren't taken. After the SD card is used in the vehicle it is then paired with the VIN and can't be used elsewhere. "

Mazda USA's official place to buy the NAV SD card, is from a genuine Mazda dealer. It is true that after the SD card is inserted into the vehicle, it will program it's VIN on it. I believe the reason why is for theft deterrence.
