Thanks to Dr. Barrett for such a clear explanation on the source of our emotions and for providing very helpful toolbox to tackle as well as to improvise our action and making of sound experiences to act predictably well in similar situations. Role of the anchor Mr. Christopher Cook needs special mention for maintaining the flow of the talk contextually aligned, perfect for the understanding of the viewers.

My favorite verse that helps: Psalm 26:3 : “His loving kindness is before my eyes “ 👍🏻practice “Awe” I’m in awe when I see pure red cardinal birds! Also lady bugs are fascinating to me. ❤

Wow, great understanding. What could happen if we practice the Presence and Glory of God daily and it affects the brain.

OK, so honestly I felt like a lot of the beginning was hard to grasp and then at 35:00 she starts to talk about awe (the American church needs this understanding so badly to get back to focusing on God and not ourselves!!!...in worship, sermons, etc.) and what she is talking about reminds me of when Dr. Anita Philips talked about science catching up with the Bible, and Curt Thompson's reflections on beauty and Jamie Winship talking about staying in the moment and not getting ahead, even 30 seconds, and giving into fear. And then her explanation of practicing "retraining the brain" is so much about the disciplines and then God doing the transforming, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Which is what you are all about, right? I am in full agreement. It's the mystery of our co-laboring with Christ, which is completely out of rest because we plow, but are not the one responsible for producing. God does that. (Another shout out to Jamie.) And her comments on CBT Therapy...yes!!! I've done a ton of DBT with family members and there were always some gaping holes for me that I couldn't explain, but I think she puts it into words with such clarity here. "One of the most expensive things that you can do is live with persistent uncertainty." For sure the mic drop of the episode to me! Right? I have experienced this exhaustion in a way I never knew before in the last 16 years of my life. I think this also is why Jamie Winship has so much energy. lol! You have to agree! I love hearing the science behind the things we hear often and know are true, but the background gives so much more understanding. Essential for a #1. haha! Mic drop #2. "You don't recognize your emotions, you construct them." Stop Dr. Lisa. Just stop. Why are you teasing us by saying these things on a 1 hour episode? There.is.so.much.there. Like another episode...or series. lol! And I love how she mentioned psychotherapy here. One word, well acronym. EMDR. Have you done an episode on that? It would be great. I've had bad EMDR, but am experiencing it now with someone who has mastered it. Totally untangling brain wires. I've wasted so much time with talk therapy. Sooo much!!!!! Woah woah woah! I LOVE that she ended it all with how we effect each other. I think one of the reasons I love what Jamie Winship preaches is because he's talking about how we love and influence people so often. Too much of this mental health convo is all about self. That's where you jump into the circle at, but there needs to be more talk about the fact that we live in a cycle of effecting others and being effected and it's all about stewarding all parts of the cycle, right? But what a tease to end on that!! Soooo good!! Also, yourself and Dr. Lisa used the word managing a few times in this episode. I'm wondering if a better word is stewarding? What are your thoughts? Ok, and I love how honest and straightforward she is. So helpful!!! Thank you Dr. Lisa for just getting to it! To wrap this up, another job well done in asking for asking great questions and organizing this talk so well. Also, thank you for finding and picking such amazing guests. Dr. Lisa just cut to the true root of so much and I am so grateful! Wow, just wow!

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I’m so glad you enjoyed the episode. Re: managing vs. stewarding, I actually believe they are synonymous. Adam and Eve, for example, were managers/stewards of the Garden. Matthew 25 (parable of talents) exemplifies their similarity, too. All that said, thank you again. I really think you’re going to love MY new book, “Healing What You Can’t Erase.” It comes out March 19, but you can preorder now, anywhere books are sold. Here’s a link: amzn.to/3T0FPDZ
