If your wide format printer nozzle check shows interruptions in the same place each time, it is likely that either paper dust or some foreign material has found it’s way underneath your print head, and has combined with your inkjet ink to form a hard area of dried ink, which is refusing to be shifted by the wiper blade. This normally wipes the underside of your printhead clean every time you print a job.
Inkjet inks on their own are usually not air drying in the normal way, and need a catalyst, like the inkjet paper coating to dry and harden - MAGIC BULLET PRINTHEAD CLEANER is formulated by chemists to break the bond between ink and catalyst, to soften and dissolve the obstruction, so you may regain a perfect nozzle check and printer function:
Simply turn on your wide format printer, wait for the carriage to travel across, and get an assistant to take out the mains lead from the back - this will enable you to work on the printhead in a free position - you can move the printhead where you wish..
Get a small square of J Cloth or similar woven kitchen towel - not paper - and put plenty of MAGIC BULLET PRINTHEAD CLEANER on the towel.
Lay this soaked pad next to your printhead, then move the printhead over the soaked pad.
Leave your printhead for at least of few hours - even overnight - to allow the strong vapours given off by MAGIC BULLET PRINTHEAD CLEANER to do their work - The vapour will soften and dissolve to hardened ink residues which are causing you the problem.
Once you have completed your soaking cycle, take out the pad and dispose of carefully, then switch on your printer. Print a small run of colour prints to allow the internal wiper blade to sweep over the underside of the printhead, then perform a nozzle check.
If this nozzle check is perfect - you can start your production printing once more
If the nozzle check is improved but still not perfect - repeat the soaking procedure
If the nozzle check is unchanged - repeat the soaking procedure a number of times, and you might want to try putting a slightly thicker pad soaked in MAGIC BULLET PRINTHEAD CLEANER under the printhead, and move the head over the pad left and right, left and right a few times, to ‘scub’ the printhead safely. - Repeat this until you get results!

All 8 print heads on my Epson 7800 wide format printer were completely clogged. Epson customer support said a service technician would have to be sent to my home at a minimum of $275 to repair. I purchased Magic Bullet after watching this video and after soaking for 2 overnights, my printer heads are unclogged and working perfectly. Thank you SO MUCH for providing this information. You are the absolute best!! I just printed a 62" x 24" canvas print and it is perfect.

Hi! Thanks for this video! Is there a way to determine if a printhead needs replacing or are they just all overclogged?

Dear Antonio, Yes, look at your nozzle check print-out. - if absolutely nothing appears on the paper in any colour channel, you probably need to talk to an Epson technician (e-mail us for contact info suitable for your region) - Otherwise, follow the advice on Part 1 and Part 2 of this series - you can always ask us specific questions by e-mailing support@marrutt.com or support@marruttUSA.com- either we will be able to help, or can pass you on to a technician who can! - Best wishes, John Read Marrutt MD

There is no need to power-off in order to free the printhead. Simply depress the blue cutter blade holder until it clicks, releasing the printhead. You can then slide it to the left. Easy!

Curious, doesn't the rubbing back and forth of the printheads on the cloth smear the ink all over them?

It's 3+ years since I used my 7880 printer (studio closed) I have now got it out of storage and yes as you can imagine, everything clogged. I firstly used windolene and sprayed but no joy. I have followed you brilliant video and left it soak overnight, didn't work, I'm now doing the second overnight. How many would you suggest me doing? Thanks

Hi Wayne, if your printer has been left unused for over 3 years you will have a stubborn blockage. So you will need tp repeat the soaking combining this with printing the purge files at highest quality (using the cheapest paper you have) www.marruttusa.com/printer/support/epson-stylus-pro-7880-help.php#blo

That's great, I will keep informed. Your link takes me to your shop, been thinking of a continuous ink system. Have you a video about the system and the ease of the change over?

After 4 attempts, each being left overnight, the print test paper is looking worse. I have looked at the print heads and there is no ink showing in #1 #2 #3 #4 #5, so is there anything available to flush the inks into the heads?

@@waynewilkins007 Hi Wayne, I'm in front of a similar problem here and I was wondering if you managed to clean the head at all? Thank you for your time, Vlad

vthefountainhead no, tried everything, even took the printer apart and smothered the print head with magic bullet, so I took in for a repair and was told it would be cheaper to buy a second hand one from eBay, as a new print head was £900+, bought a second hand one for £560 and it’s brilliant

I am getting lots of e-mails from wide-format users who want to know if these techniques work on any brand of wide-format printer: So long as your wide-format printer uses pigment or dye-based inks, the heavy vapour given off by MAGIC BULLET PRINTHEAD CLEANER should gradually soften the hard dried ink deposits. If you have only just lost your perfect nozzle check (say, last week) you should quickly be able to regain perfect print. If your wide-format printer has been clogged for weeks or even months, prepare yourself for many cycles of overnight soaking and scrubbing as shown in these three videos. - Any specific queries, e-mail us as SUPPORT@MARRUTT.COM OR SUPPORT@MARRUTTUSA.COM Best wishes, John Read MD Marrutt Limited

One thing to consider when using wide-format inkjet printers: They usually suffer from long periods of inactivity (no printing for weeks on end) then suddenly a rush job comes in, and we all expect the printer to perform perfectly! - DON'T DO THIS! - PERFORM A NOZZLE CHECK PRINT-OUT EVERY WEEK - if the nozzle check is not perfect on a weekly basis, fault-find your printer according to the above Videos I, II and III - if the printer still won't respond, contact us at support@marrutt.com or support@marruttUSA.com depending on your region - we will help! Best wishes, John Read MD Marrutt Limited
