Instructions not clear - so I finished making this last week when all of a sudden a storm trooper burst through my front door, he said he was looking for a couple of droids or something I don't know. I told him the droids I have are not the ones he's looking for and to get the hell out! He called me 'rebel scum' which wasn't very nice at all, he then picked up his blaster and started shooting at me, I had just finished my 'battle ready light sabre ' but the damn thing didn't work, all it did was move around making swooshy noises. I mean luckily his shots were way off target but for a second there I thought I was in some real trouble! Thanks Odin 😉.

I see you have constructed a new light saber. Your skills are complete, but you are not a Jedi yet.
5:38 While I'm not really an electrical engineer, I figure putting heatshrink around a transistor like this would be somewhat dangerous, as you're completely isolating the heatsink on the back of the transistor from any airflow whatsoever, which risks it overheating and damaging the component, and possibly burning the tubing (if it gets that hot).
I love how clean the work he does is. shrink wrap can never be over used. Great video!

Man. I cant think of a video that I watched that had this much content where was utterly and completely lost. You did a great job explaining what you had and what you were doing. I just dont know any of this stuff. Enjoyed it though.
Just wanted to say this is a fantastic video. Excellent skill and know how to wire sound to your own lightsaber. For anyone who is interested - I just ordered an Ultrasaber mystery box for $75 (because I didn't want to take the time to make my own). I plan on getting a saber without sound (probably going to happen with the mystery box) and using this tutorial to mod it with sound from a blade builder. I know ultrasaber does not want you to do this, they want you to send it in and spend a ton of money, so I'll post my struggles when I get the blade.
Thanks a lot for sharing this kind of content for free! So informative and I now feel like it's more within my current budget to build my custom sabre. Now to start designing my hilt... :D
Is it just me or is this video a "how to install a soundboard from a toy into a combat ready saber" and not how to turn a toy into a combat ready!

100% agree! Rather than use the actual toy he jus gutted the damn thing and reinstalled it into his already made one... the hell. I was hoping this would help me fix my Obiwan lightsaber. the blade is gone but still functional.. I want to mod it with a green light and use it. Title misleading but possible ideas can come from this. like rewiring the inside with a new led source. and buy a Kyberlight blade for $20.

Just want to say thanks for this video I have put it to use to build and create my own.
Crazy how someone can know how to do all this. He grew up tinkering with stuff I bet. Pretty cool!
Bad ass build
Thank you, also a small note - the transistor part you heatshrinked gets very hot during operation, and you should attach it to saber body directly so it can dissipate heat.
I picked up the same Bladebuilders for 10 bucks at Canadian Tire today. What a coincidence! Thanks for the tutorial!
You kick ASS brother!
This is really helpful thank you! Ive been working on doing a combat ready Kylo Ren Saber using the tips youve given. the circuit board on the Kylo Ren verson is completley different to the Rey version as in the markings are different, switch and how to connect the LEDS. the high powered LED (Center LED) actually needs the Positive and Negotive connected otherwise the bulb wont be as powerful as the side LEDs. But again this has been really helpful!
Amazing
Thanks for sharing :-) Nice project :-)
Excellent tutorial. Thank you. I’ve built (3) of these so far. The only problem I’ve had is that the Micropuck I was using fried. It was rated for 500mah but only 3 volts so it couldn’t handle the (4) aaa batteries. I’m going to try a 500mah Micropuck rated for 5+ volts and hopefully that will work.
That is absolutely Brilliant i'm going to make one
Sooooo...in order to turn a toy lightsaber into a combat ready one...I just build a combat ready one. Thanks, super helpful, friend
Love it :) thank you for the video
You have inspired me and my friend to do the same thing thank you
This is really cool! You could buy a nice hilt from Saberforge in the closeout section for a little over a hundred bucks and with the minor upgrades you can have a really excellent saber for around 150.
thanks for making this video
hell i was even just looking into swapping the speaker switch and led in one of the toys, and then adding the blade... this will definitely speed things along

I love watching things like this. It’s always fascinated me but I have no idea about any of it lol.
the shrink tube melting is so mesmerizing
Could you do a video for the combat lightsabers where it also includes a chassis's with a lightsabers crystal, obviously it's not critical but it would be a cool edition when stripping the lightsabers down to show it off to make it look even more the real deal plus it would be awesome to learn how to make a lightsabers crystal chamber
Be delicate with these boards, it's so easy to rip off the solder pads and leave your board useless.

Beyond Geek will post one later, but it is almost completely the same list as the other DIY saber build here on Beyond Geek. The only new parts are the toy, and that PNP transistor (NTE 242 is the model I used here) but I have grabbed other models now, and all have worked. Just make sure it's PNP- Positive-Negative-Positive. NTE also sells NPN, and they might work, but I have not tested them.

I have a saber forge saber that looks really nice but I didn't include the sound because it was just too expensive. I might try modding it with this, it sounds good enough to me! Definitely better than nothing
I actually did that, I had an Obiwan Episode 3 one, and my friend who actually duals fir disney on occasion broke her battle ready lightsaber (modified), and needed one for a event in NJ, so I pulled my old one apart, then shoved her insides in, then replaced the blade with a pre-ordered plastic one (can't remember what its called, but its what is in safety glasses), took about 10 hours, and no sauntering except for the led.

The reason why the end cap was difficult to remove is that the blade builder port is nailed in to secure it into the toys
Cool, but for $75 you can get a professionally CNC machined lightsaber from Ultrasabers in their mystery box. Granted it may not come with sound, but plenty of people have gotten lucky and received sound ready sabers for the same price.
