    Thanks for sharing. Its amazing how a good antenna can be made on the cheap. I think a lot of us over think the hobby.

    I collect recycled wires from construction sites and recycling centers, focusing especially on leftover old cables. I then use these cables to build a wire antenna and use twogether with balun(s). These antennas have been successful in my projects." , thank you very much for your video, - G7UNF

    I am in the process of building my antenna and I have some questions about when you deployed it. It looks like the feed point is about 6 feet or so off of the ground. Is this correct? How did you connect the radials to the ground? Are they roughly at a 45 degree angle? Thanks

  • @thehamjazz

    @thehamjazz

    9 ай бұрын

    Hey Richie, thanks for your comment buddy. The feedpoint is roughly 6 feet off the ground, and the radials are connected to string, and then tied to battens in the ground. So they are elevated radials, and need to be at least 2 feet above the ground at the ends where the string is connected... the radial angle is about 120-135 degrees from the feedpoint downwards. Are you familiar with Greg's (KJ6ER) "PERformer" aka "PREDator" antenna set up? This is essentially that, but the radiating element is wire from the extension cord instead of a stainless whip. Happy building mate! She's a great antenna. Wooohooo. Cheers

    This was awesome, great project for 10M. Is the idea to be able to change out the radiating element quickly for other bands? That would be quite the portable kit

    Hello Francisco, thanks for watching the video and your comment mate. The coax length I use is 25 feet, but I have also used this antenna on 15 feet, and as for a balun... are you referring to a choke or something like a 9:1? I do use a choke for RFI, but not a balun as the antenna is resonant. Happy building my friend! It's a great fun antenna and works great. Cheers

    Out of interest, how long was the cord? Looks like a half wave as presumably were the two radials.

  • @thehamjazz

    @thehamjazz

    Good morning Roger, the extension cord is 3 meters, or 10 feet.... I salvaged the full length of the cord and folded a few inches back on itself. So the vertical radiating element is 9' 8" and the two radials are 77 inches. Depending on the height and environment, you might need to adjust this to accommodate. Thanks very much for your comments mate and have a great day. Cheers
