How to Turn Your Butterfly Bush into a Tree:
Butterfly bush also known as Buddleja (Buddleia) is a beautiful flowering plant that has birds and butterflies coexisting. It’s the perfect flower, with its big blooms, amazing fragrance, and fast growing capabilities in poor soil, you will love having this in your garden. I love turning butterfly bushes into trees because it’s a great way to maximize vertical space in the garden. If you’d like to know how to propagate this, let me know in the comments. Stick around until the end of the video to find out how you can maintain bigger blooms.
Butterfly bush comes in purple, pink, white, yellow, and different shades of pinks and purples. Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, other birds including finches. You have to be careful with these plants because they are classified as an invasive species in the United States (meaning that they can crowd out native plants, which can alter ecosystems). There are varieties that are sterile, that won’t reseed themselves which you can buy.
Plant butterfly bush in spring or fall, in a partly sunny or full sun area. Making sure to plant in well- draining soil. Fight the urge to fertilize this beauty, because much like morning glories, it does better in average soil.

Thank you for such an informative and clear video! I love these flowers and bought two plants a couple of weeks ago. One is going strong but the other isn't doing well. There are a few leaves curling on it and I don't know why.. I was about to fertilise my buddlejas today but lucky I came across your video! I would love to see how to propagate these babies ☺️🌱 Also, hi from Australia 😆👋

I got my Buddleia from a local shop with farming and planting equipment, and it was a little stick that was in a dormant state so bought it and brought it home. I potted it and for about a month and a half nothing happened so after waiting a while, i dug it back out thinking there was a problem since i was new to planting dormant plants, and i had no idea what to really look out for, so i just thought it was dead but still had a little hope, so put it back in the soil and left it outside for a week or two and bam! there is somehow tremendous growth! I think my problem was is that I packed the soil so much that the roots couldn’t grow and travel, and that the plant just also needed more sunlight.

I have a White Buddleia in my garden which was a cutting. It first appeared in my June/July 2018 videos on my channel. This plant has grown and finally settled into it's permanent place in the garden for my February 2021 update. It should flower nicely this year as the parent plant did in 2018. Happy Growing :)

@@BirdofParadise It was a lovely surprise to find. I took a cutting from a wild one in July 2014. I lost this plant in May 2019 which is on my channel. I took cuttings from it then and luckily had an older cutting from it that's now taken it's place, so long as I don't lose the plant I'll be happy :)

Great video! A kind of got what I was looking for! Thanks! I have a butterfly bush that eventually turned in to a tree form by itself 😂.. then I started doing the needful and cut extra growth to keep the form. The problem is it looks good when deadheaded and I can’t reach the top.. if I cut it around 4 ft this spring do you think it will still grow? I don’t want them to die.

Great video! You inspired me to try this with a little buddleia I picked off a wall before lockdown. 😁 But I've got a problem... I somehow managed to snap the stem a few weeks ago. I quickly fixed it up with some masking tape and it stopped wilting and I think it's growing again now. Do have any advice for what I should do? It would be really helpful

Arnie the Purple Dinosaur are there leaves below the part that you accidentally snapped? If so, it will most likely still grow even if the snapped part never heals over. But either way I’m sure it will be fine- they’re very hard to kill 😊

The one next to your window you don't have to turn into a tree exactly two years and it should have it should grow exactly like that if you leave a buddleia to its own devices also keep an eye on it it will turn into a tree eventually about 15 feet tall in the UK you have them growing wild in town centres I seen them growing in chimney pot on a railway bridge on the bricks in the railway bridge if you go to town of Bedford and you go to the train station there's a bridge that goes over the tracks the road name for the bridge is Ford End Road and it's a Victorian Bridge and he has buddleia growing all over it and in the station and at the end of Ford End Road Bridge there is some empty land either side of the road one side used to part of the Ironworks and there's a road going in the middle of the empty land that goes into a housing estate that was built in 2006 not long after the demolition of the Ironworks that was meant to be a NHS doctors surgery something like that if you go onto Google Maps and go back to 2009 you'll see even today nothing ever happened there and I call the place the buddleia Forest how many are there are about the same size of yours and bigger and every year is always a new buddleia there the area is called Queen's Park
