HOW TO TRIM YOUR BEARD LIKE A PRO AT HOME - Feat. The Beardscape Pro - UNSPONSORED

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

** LINKS TO TOOLS & PRODUCTS BELOW **
Hi guys! I'm celebrity barber Matty Conrad. I teach beard grooming techniques that help guys at home achieve better results and have more confidence when trying to tame those wiry whiskers.
In my opinion Beard care is always going to be focussed on two primary steps 1) Beard Care (products) 2) Beard Trimming (tools)
1) BEARD CARE
When it comes to care I always had a hard time finding a beard wash that actually takes care of my skin and makes my beard feel soft while smelling fresh and rinsing clean. Thats why I made my own. I stand behind it 100% and I honestly think its one of the best in the world ( and so do a lot of other people)
Victory Barber & Brand WASH-
victorybarber.com/products/wash
2) BEARD TRIMMING (Tools)
Because I am a professional I usually uses pro tools like the ones below. It's easily the most common question I get asked ... so here are links to them both.
Wahl 5 Star Cordless Senior -
www.amazon.ca/Wahl-Profession...
Babyliss Pro Gold FX Trimmer -
www.amazon.ca/BaBylissPRO-Ske...
BUT often the feedback is that these tools are too expensive for everyday guys and most guys just don't need something so premium to do their daily grooming. So I have been on the lookout for more affordable alternatives.
One day not that long ago the people at BRIO reached out and sent me a BEARDSCAPE PRO. In all honesty I am a bit of a dick when it comes to tools referring to themselves as PRO. But I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt and put it through the paces to see if it stacked up against my usual line-up.
**DISCLAIMER**
I AM NOT SPONSORED BY BRIO OR ANY OTHER CLIPPER COMPANIES.
Here is my honest review...
WHAT I LIKED: The tool feels very solid, the run time and battery life is excellent, the blades are sharp and cuts very clean, the motor is nice and quiet, its easy to set up and use, the tabletop charger looks great on my countertop, the zero blade cuts fairly clean and shaves the hair down tight, and the carrying kit is clearly good quality.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE AS MUCH: I still don't like that its called the PRO 😂 The guards are a bit tricky to get on and off and don't really "click" when they are attached properly so you kind of second guess whether they are going to stay on HOWEVER so far they have never fallen off when I am using it. The trimmer blade does a fairly decent job of trimming the hair tight down but the unit itself is a bit bulkier than most of the trimmers I have used which makes it a bit of a challenge to see what you re trimming at first... this does gets easier with a bit of practice but it is an adjustment.
OVERALL
I actually like it for home use... it's a good value and its a decent choice for someone who is looking for a quality tool at a slightly better price point.

I love watching these videos. It’s taken me years to grow a beard fully (didn’t start growing until I was about 25, I’m now 36) but I’m now thinking about styling it, so I cut it short to start from scratch properly (my goatee was longer than my beard and I wanted the hair all the same length). Thank you for these videos. They’re teaching me a lot about beard care and grooming.

I've been sporting a beard for 11 years now and work in TV/Film (in front of camera) and was thinking of cutting it short to change things up a bit. After watching your videos I am giving it a second thought now. I had no idea you are in Gastown as I live in New West which now inspires me to book a beard trim by a professional and see what happens. By far you are the most up front and informative barber I've seen on KZread. Thank you and keep at it !!

This is what I like is when some one uses the product, to show it work or if it wont work. With your video's I can see if its something I can use. I know your unsponsored by this company but your video got them a Consumer. I pretty much wanted a all in one type of trimmer and I wanted the 0 gap as well and this has what I'm looking for with out having so many tools. I like the idea of having one tool that dose it all. One motor, with attachment's for what you need. You know like a tractor, all you need is 1 tractor with all the different attachment's you can think of, instead of a different tractor for different tasks .

Brio is an exceptional home trimmer. The Beardscape is a great hair trimmer that's also good for manscaping. Brio is one of the quietest trimmers on the market, and it's not overly expensive for the quality. However, you are correct; it is not a professional trimmer, as many people who recommend this product on KZread claim. I also have professional Wahl Magic Clip and Andis. Both feature more accurate blades and are far more robust for salon usage on a daily basis. I occasionally use Brio with the guards to trim my own beard, but I always freehand it to remove the flyaways with Wahl Magic Clip. Thanks for posting superb content.

Thanks for some great videos! I am actually in need of updating my trimmer and would LOVE to have only one tool. I would like to do let's say 1-2mm on my head and 3-4mm beard and I would like to get as close to zero gap as possible for good lines. I was actually considering the Babyliss Gold FX trimmer that you use, with some suitable guards to get the right lenghts even if it is quite expensive. Do you think I can use it for both beard and head? I know people always suggest not to use the trimmer on the head, but I always keep my hair short. Also... would the blade that comes with it be ok, or do I really need to upgrade to a Gold FX blade?? Is there any other good trimmer you would suggest instead?

Out of curiosity is there any proper difference between an adequate sideburn trimmer and that zero trimmer? Say, if you already had a burn trimmer, comb and brush, and wanted to just get a set of clippers? And can a zero trimmer or burn trimmer or any sort of electric shaver trim a mustache better than scissors in your opinion? I've noticed split ends seem to happen no matter how I trim my stache.

My philosophy is this. If you dont have the money, then you dont have the money. But if you do have the money, but say its expensive, then you should think about it. Are you going to use it often? If yes, then will it last a long time? If yes to both, then just shell out the extra money. Its better to get quality for a little more that will last, rather than save a few bucks for something that will need replacing or an upgrade later.

Guys if you have stubble or short beard, I'd go for trimmer / detailer. Its head is narrower thus getting closer to skin and getting angles you want is easier. Full grown hair clipper is more difficult to operate. On the other hand, If you cut your own hair and got "spare" hair clipper, you don't need any other tools. Maybe a razor to clean out the neck and cheeks. 100USD/EUR for a middle ground (Brio) is a bit expensive and not needed.

Everytime my beard grows long enough to trim I keep coming to this video to try my luck again at getting it right. The hardest point of understanding for me this time and every time has been getting the lower length right and going from my jawline to my adamsapple. Everything I do it, it turns out shorter than I expected.

  • @mattyconradgrooming

The trick is letting the front length be your guide. Tilt your head back and go from the front length towards the Adam’s Apple. Just take a bit off the bottom. Your focus is trying to smooth out the base.. not shorten it.

For guys, who prefer stubble length (max. 2 cm. and everything in between) and neat outlines, which trimmer do you recommend? Price is not an issue. It’s a jungle out there 🤷🏻‍♂️

Honestly. My favourite trimmer is the Babyliss Gold FX trimmer… it’s a beast. But remember… trimmers are best suited for outlining not maintaining length… that is best for a clipper.

Phillips One Blade. Go for the “pro” version that has adjustable lengths. You can outline, trim and close shave everything with one tool. If you just want stubble, this one is the way to go

@@marvinvanhattem depends what you want in a shaver tbh, the brio with the zero blade and guards is £100 and is much better at everything except a clean shave because the Phillips one blade has the foil heads. The one blade pro is £80 and I spent £120 on blades in one year.. it’s kinda gimmicky tbh as it’s an “all in one” device. More like a jack of all trades master of none device, in my experience. The brio also has rpm settings and oil maintenance light

So, if money wasn't a problem would the Wahl cordless senior or the Beardscape be your go to? And why? I'm searching for only 1 tool to do it all but I can afford something a bit more expensive.

  • @mattyconradgrooming

    @mattyconradgrooming

That’s the real challenge. One tool doesn’t do it all perfectly. A good clipper will remove bulk and make a smoother looking exterior but it won’t outline well… a good outliner (trimmer) will create clean outlines and shave the hair down tight to the skin but it’s not great for reducing bulk…. The beardscape did both fairly well but not as well as a good clipper and trimmer combo.

@@soumynonareverse7807 you can definitely use a safety razor for outlining but it’s a bit trickier to use than a trimmer. If you are confident with it already an adjustable clipper like the cordless senior is an excellent purchase.
