I agree I seen many other fender cuts, but like the way, he cuts his fenders way better than anyone else looks more like factory cut always looking for many other ways . People are doing this as I have owned an operated a body shop for 30 years. This makes more sense than anyone else’s way of doing it.
this is by far the cleanest cut ive seen. I like it a lot. I cut my first set WAY too narrow. the slinging of dirt and mud was unbearable. I ended up buying another set of factory fender flares to try again. thanks for the video.

Great! I agree- lot's of fender trimming on JK's that just doesn't look good to me either.
Watched a few of these videos now trying to decide the look I'd like with my jeep. By far this is the best look I've seen yet. I'll be going with this! Looks great! Thanks!
Awesome video with really great detail. Just bought another JKU and I'll be following this video when I do cut my fenders here in the next week or 2 🤙
Good to see you on KZread, Dirk. I know you've been around a long time before this with your custom XJ suspensions and parts. This is indeed the best video I've ever seen for trimming the JK flares, especially painted ones. Thanks and God bless man!

Thanks Rob! Yes, been doing this for over 20 years now- just started doing videos in the last year or so. More coming soon!
This is the best video I have ran across for making fender mods on a JK! I followed the video closely and love how my Jeep turned out! Looks so much cleaner than most of the other cuts or even most of the aftermarket options. Thanks for taking the time to make this very helpful video!

Thank you for the video, I really like how you did the flare and agree with you about not liking the skinny flares, it just looks cheap to me.
Thank you! Great video! I also like that leaving that little portion of the outer edge will retain much of the rigidity. All the other videos I have seen do as you say, they cut it flat, and it looks like it would flap in the wind at highway speeds. I am going to use your technique, thanks for taking the time to make and post this video.

I think this is the best way out of all other ways to trim your fenders. Sadly - I dont have painted fenders and wonder how it would look with unpainted fenders. Hmmm...wish there was a video out there that did what you did but with factory unpainted fenders on my Willys. Looking in your website gallery at customer rigs - I wish you had one in there that wasn't painted to see it. can you send me a picture of one thats not painted so I can see the result before I perform this cut? Thanks for your time.
I like my side marker light since I got smoked ones but wish I could trim a little underneath it not sure how it would look though

Lotta people keep the factory marker lights. I just don't like the look of any of them mounted below the flare. Just my own personal opinion...
What a great job it actually look really good. I really wanted some aluminum fenders but here in northern Ontario Canada they are very expensive so I was going to cut my fenders (a lot smaller than this) I'm glad I didn't. Will this wider cut flutter in the wind?
@dpgoff-road1737
3 жыл бұрын
I guess the front flares aren't rock solid at highway speeds, but there's no real flutter that's all that noticeable either.
Great video. Best I've seen for cutting flares so far. If I cut the flares like this and have no lift can I stuff 35s on my JK and not rub? I think you said on the orange jeep that he had plenty of room for 35s. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.
@dpgoff-road1737

The JK in the video was already lifted when we did this video. You can fit 35's on a JK with trimming alone, but it needs a little lift to look proportionate. I trimmed and ran 35's on my JKU before I installed my own lift and it looked funny. I didn't try to wheel any trails at that point.
@michaelogrady2867

@@dpgoff-road1737 Do you have an opinion on what size lift would be necessary for good off-road performance? Some of us have low garages and need to stay as low as we can, while still being capable off-road.
@dpgoff-road1737
3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelogrady2867 A lot depends on what size tires you want to fit and what flares you have for extra clearance. With 35's and trimmed flares, 2.5" to 3" of lift is plenty! More lift will give you more clearance under the frame, but will make your tires look smaller and make operating angles on multiple components much steeper. Feel free to call me at (316) 776-9900 if you want to discuss details...
That looks great. I like your methods and reasoning for them. What disk do you use on the grinder? Also the saw you use, is that basically a small sawsall like the newer battery operated small hand sawsall? How much is this Jeep lifted. I have a 2018 Willys and I’m not sure but I think they already have a lift over a stock sport. Now I’m going to watch your other videos lol.

I use a 36grit disc for smoothing the plastic. It's aggressive, but if you use something too mild, the plastic melts too much. Not sure on what you call that airsaw. You can buy them at most tool stores. Jeep in this video was lifted about 3". Thanks!

How would you address the edges of the fenders if they were the dull faded black...mines not a Sahara....I was thinking of painting them gloss black to match body...
@dpgoff-road1737

You can certainly paint factory flares if desired.
Thanks for a great "how-to" video. I'm gonna do it! I have a variable speed jig saw. What tooth count blade would you recommend for unpainted fenders? Also, I think the pinch weld in rear should be cut on an angle. Have you done this? Any suggestions on what caulk to fill the void before painting? Thanks.
@dpgoff-road1737
Жыл бұрын
I don't recall the tooth count, but on plastic, the slightly more aggressive blade worked better than the less aggressive one. If you're referring to the pinch weld at the lower front of the rear fenderwell, I have trimmed those. Just depends on how big the tire size you want to run. IIRC, you don't need to do that to fit 35's, but do with 37's. I prefer polyurethane over silicone anytime, but might check with a body shop supply to see if they recommend something better for that application.

@@dpgoff-road1737 thank you. I finished them yesterday. Very pleased with results.
Nice Job! Have you done a standard flare that is not painted? If so, do you do it the same? I have a 2" lift and 3/4" puck but only 33" tires. Just curious if you think it would look good with the flares cut like this?
@dpgoff-road1737
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have done both painted and non-painted flares on JK's. I do them both the same way. Honestly, I think your 33's would look a little small with your lift and flares trimmed. I ran 35's with a 2.75" lift on my JKU and it looked good. Before, I had 3.5" coils and the same tires looked kind of small with the trimmed flares. I trimmed a buddies 2-door JK with 33's and no lift at all and they looked just about right. If you're planning to run 35's, I'd say Go for it!
I like that black decal that runs beside the door hinge. Is that custom?
