I'm currently practicing a piece with a trill, and I think for me the bigger challenge is not the trilling action per se, but rather integrating the trill into the piece; in other words, fitting the trill into the time allowed based on the tempo of the piece and the duration of the note that has the trill.

Exactly. Transitioning out of a trill seems like jumping off a moving merry-go-round. I would like some guidance on that too.
There must be thousands of videos on KZread about executing trills, and I've seen many of them, but this is the first one (finally!) that actually shows you how to really execute them. Now all that's missing is practice. Thank you so much.
Josh Wright also talked about rotating the hand when trilling. He said a good trill has a mix of finger movement and rotation.

Jason, I am totally a beginner. Although I had wished for playing piano, I never gave a thought to it seriously. After following and watching all of your videos and the videos of Pianote channel, I bought a keyboard Casio CTS 300. After all, that's the only keyboard I can afford. Now as a beginner who knows nothing, your tutorial videos are so helpful and discovering of what to learn and practice. Thank you so much.
The trill at the end is absolutely AMAZING I’m so excited for rare Wooper
As a someone who had three different electric pianos, from my experience I must say that unfortunately some keyboards are just very bad, which can also result in a problems with trill technique. So, at least when buying digital piano, try to consult some piano teacher for recommendation. Nowadays, there are digital pianos with very good piano action that are not expensive.

@@Sayuku_P I haven't tried it, so I can only guess. But, since it's Yamaha, it's not their cheapest range, and it has quite good reviews, I believe that it's good choice. Especially for beginners.

@@fortissimoX If the keyboard specifically doesn't advertise triple sensors, it's not good for trills etc. since you need to lift the key completely before re-engaging it... And triple sensor keybeds are really expensive in comparison and usually only in high end models that are meant for serious musicians.

I may be getting ahead of myself but what is the difference between a trill vs a turn (sideways S notation aka gruppetto)? Found in Beethoven's Sonata in C Minor (Pathetique).
Trills with ease. This sure is welcome. Thank you! ❤🎹
This video is so timely! Thank you for the amazing tips on proper trilling technique, something to practise on daily!
Thank you so munch for your tips and exercices. They are so helpful to improve my technique and the resulting performance.
I love your lessons, Jazer! Thank you.
Thank you so much for these tips! I am playing a duet right now that starts off with two trills, and it sounds so much better now! But I don't know if I could ever get as good as this guy, no matter how much I practice.
Great video! After only 10 minutes of praciticing these exercises i was able to play a greatly superior and more controled trill on lower dynamics (all of this applied for a performance of the nocturne n2). Still a long way to go on these trills but with these tips, that road will sure be shorter :)
Your videos are fantastic. You get right to the most important parts of what you're explaining. Thank you!
Great vid Jazer, especially the extreme close-ups! Could you possibly do a How to Trill part 2 with explanations of the Baroque trills like we see in the Bach inventions? I'm working on Invention No. 9 but leaving all the trills out for now...
Thanks so much Jazer! I’ve been playing for decades and can still learn things from you. And trills are definitely a weak spot of mine. I would love to hear discussion of more ornaments also. 😍
Thank you very much Jazer! These tips have really helped me to improve. Looking forward to your next videos! 😊
You're an amazing teacher. I've learned a lot of new techniques from you and also learned how to play things I already know much more efficiently. Great work.
I have some work and lots of practice to do, but I now can start.. I found your tutorial because I am learning that piece - Piano Sonata in C major - Mozart. Perfect, thank you!
I have discovered a few trills in Bach's Prelude in C Minor from The Well-Tempered Clavier. There are two trills on white keys in the B or 2nd section, but I also found 2 trills between a black and white key (Ab to G) in the 1st section.
Hi Jazer, thanks for your video! the first two days when I practised I felt unsure as my wrist got really tense that I had to rest for a whole day without playing. My wrist easily gets tensed anyway. But after 1 week I could really saw the progress day after day and every day I could play trill for a little bit longer and more evener without feeling any discomfort. It is not perfect now but I will keep practising. Your method is working!
Mozart - Piano Sonata No. 16 in C Major, K.545
Thank you very much Jazer for the lessons. You are a fantastic teacher and player. This lesson will be a great help with the pieces I have been trying to play: Chopin nocturne in e minor and waltz in a minor. When convenient to you I can use some advice on pedaling. Hope you have a great day.
Great lesson!! So clear, on use, and pianist friendly! Thanks
Loving your channel Jazer! Very valuable tips always! Any chance you'll cover how to do the fast evenly played Alberti base?
Thanks so much! This really will help my practice. Trills are so clumsy for me.
This was a particularly good video, covering the subject with specific concepts shown clearly
Such a good timing! I am working on Chopin Opus 9 No 2 and the piece has some trills. Thanks Jazer!
OMG I just starten learning this piece (yesterday) and I wondered how in the world I am going to do that. Thanks to God you heard my wishes.
Thanks for this video. One problem I have is executing trills musically while the left hand maintains the rhythm. Trills speed up and slow down, but the left hand has to stay steady. I practice this by having the left hand go with a metronome while the right hand goes free with the trill, but would love hear any advice you have about this. Another video maybe?
Thanks man, currently learning the Chopin Nocturne in C-sharp minor you played a little bit of and struggling with the trills, so this was really helpful
KV 545 of course 😀. I’m actually learning this at the moment, so your lecture comes in very helpful. Thx. a lot.
Thank you so much! I’ve been meaning to dedicate practice to trills. Have you thought about doing a video on repeated notes, and its different fingerings and practice methods? Would be really helpful for pieces like Grande Valse Brillante (or, yknow, Rush E).
Have just discovered your fantastic lessons for piano and I admire your way of teaching! Thanks for your generosity! LeF

Very helpful. Thank you!
Oh this is perfect. I'm playing Venetianisches Gondellied for one of my pieces in my last year of highschool. There's a very very long trill on C# and the notes are easy to play but I was struggling with making it sound even.
Thanks for the videos that you make! They helped me a lot learning piano.
amazing way of showing me, thank you, keep your fingers right on the keys is the advise i really needed.
Wow! What a trilling tute!
Got a new perspective after watching the video. I never taught much of trills, I find that it’s easier if I relax, don’t think of it, just get it done. The piece you were playing gets tricky when the left hand comes in. I can do it only without thinking. Gets messed up when I tense up. As a child, I remembered I was very good with Mozart trills. Now, I’m more conscious, not so good. I’ve never thought of trills (3 points) like what you said in the video. So, thanks for the new perspective. I’m a nervous player, that’s a problem especially in exams.
Your videos are really helpful. Thank u so much

Thank you. It's amazing your class and you are a wonderfull pianist.
Great! Tips for trilling with the left hand? That same Mozart piece has a descending left-hand trill that introduces the second theme. It always gives me hardship.
Piano trills are completely different from woodwind trills. I really appreciate these tips. Thanks!
the low wrist and stay glued trick works well for me, thanks!

Thanks, Jazer. Needed this one!
I've been paying long time and this is the first time anyone has given me a useful explanation instead of 'just trill'. Going to try this tomorrow.

Love this piece from Mozart, I've played it when I was a child :)
I have been wanting trill help because I'm working on Nocturne in c# minor, so this was good timing. It would be great if you could offer some tips for the scales at the end (not sure what to call them). I am not at the level where I can play them fast enough, and probably it's just a matter of time and work. I really love that piece and would like to be able to play it well!
