Only one day is enough however it is better to book whole stay in advance to avoid inconvenience during tourist season, as you may not be able to find stay.

Hi, How much time does it take to get a permit? Because I'm expecting to reach at the immigration office on a Friday maximum by 1:30-2 PM. And have a hotel booked in Paro for the same day.
