How to Transit in the UK, London Gatwick Airport - Connecting Flight Transfer Guide

The Gatwick airport website describes the connecting flight procedures very well. Things to improve: Need a more detailed map of the terminal with clear labels of the important locations such as Connecting flight counter, Train station.
Gatwick South Terminal is relatively compact, often crowded, and lacking in adequate seating or resting areas. However, the security screening process is efficient, ensuring swift passage for those who adhere to regulations such as removing large electronic or metal items and liquids and placing them in the designated bins.

--------------
If you're arriving at London Gatwick Airport and connecting to another destination on a single ticket, with your baggage checked through or if you are traveling with hand luggage only, you can proceed directly through security to your connecting flight without needing to pass through immigration.
Depending on your nationality, you may need a Direct Airside Transit visa. Check first before you travel.
For passengers who already have their boarding pass for the subsequent flight, it is recommended to allow a minimum connection time of 60 minutes if both flights operate within the same terminal, and 90 minutes if they involve different terminals.
after exiting your aircraft, Follow the directions to Flight Connections for security check before arriving at the departure lounge.
You will find Information screens displaying flight details and gate numbers. Boarding is approximately 45 minutes to one hour before flight departure.
Passengers who are transiting airside to another terminal can take the shuttle between the North and South Terminals which are about 1.5 miles away from each other. Make sure you get your boarding pass and passport ready for inspection.
1:34 - Landside Transit
If you arrive at London Gatwick and are connecting onward with checked baggage on separate tickets, you'll be required to pass through UK border control at the immigration checkpoint.
Depending on your nationality, you may need a Visitor in Transit visa. Check first before you travel. As this cannot be done upon arrival, if you require one, you must apply and receive approval beforehand.
After exiting your aircraft, head to Baggage Reclaim to collect your baggage. Proceed to Departures to check in your connecting flight, baggage and get the boarding pass. Selected airlines offer early check-in or self-service check-in and bag drop at Gatwick. The early bag drop option is especially helpful when your onward flight is many hours away.
Refer to the flight information screens to find your designated check-in desk for the specific airline.
Follow the signage towards the Departures.
Containers in your hand luggage must hold no more than 100ml of liquids and must be placed in a plastic bag provided at the station before Security Checkpoint. Scan your boarding pass.
Proceed through security and immigration to access the departure lounge. Head to the departure gate to board your flight at the appointed time.
To navigate between terminals, just hop on the free inter-terminal shuttle train. Operating around the clock, every day of the year, this service runs frequently, with a swift journey time of only two minutes.

I’ve been to Gatwick airport. It’s kind of big, with two terminals, a few Marks and Spencer stores 🏬, food courts upon check-in, and a lot of friendliness towards rules, laws and policies.

If we have separate tickets (need self transfer) but booked together Norse ticket from LAX and Easyjet ticket for Berlin, when steps do we need to do? I assume go through border control, pick up luggage, go to another terminal North maybe, and then checkin? It will nice that the airlines make this easier for us without self transfer. The details is below. Depart - Fri, August 30, 2024 Journey duration: 19h 00m Los Angeles (LAX) Aug 30, 16:30 10h 25m Norse Z0712 London (LGW) Aug 31, 10:55 +1 day Layover 6h 40m Self-transfer Collect your luggage Check in for your next flight London (LGW) Aug 31, 17:35 1h 55m easyJet U28625 Berlin (BER) Aug 31, 20:30

Hi, usually with separate tickets for international to international flight transfer you have to pass the immigration/ passport control to get your luggage and then check in again. easyJet operate from both North and South Terminal - please check with the airline to confirm which terminal you need to go to for your flight.

Hi I saw your video. It was very informative. Can I ask you question. What if we don’t have the boarding pass for the next flight but still going with no checked in baggage. Do they allow us to do airside transfer?

Hi, If both flights are on the same airline or partner airlines, you may be able to transfer airside (without going through UK border control) even without a boarding pass for the next flight. This is more likely if the airline can issue your boarding pass at the transfer desk airside.
