Thank you for this video. I adopted a 3 yr old mini mule. He does all of the bad things lol but he's a lovebug. Looking forward to using your techniques and being able to take him on hikes and social settings. He's small but he is SO strong.

You could call them “redirection circles”. Basically you’re redirecting that brain to get them out of their stubborn mindset. Such a good informative video

Great video! - but it was more the gorgeous Golden's antics, playing lone fetch with the ball and kissing the mule that had me in stitches! plus the Chihauhau and guinea fowl in the background..brilliant! you can't stage things like that. Loved it..more please.

Liked your video Becky you have a way with animals. I'm from a family of 8 and we all grew up on a small farm. Had chores feeding the animals hogs,horses,cows and chickens. My worse experience with any was Guernsy milk cow that didnt like me and i never cared much for her either. My brother's and sisters got along with her fine and my mother normally milked her as i never could. I miss those days. My older sister was the best with horses and got her own red roan horse and broke him to lead,ride, and worked him pulling firewood, and work in the garden. Life seemed so good back 50 years ago. Take care and keep us informed with your video's i really appreciate them.

Less is more is a sure rule for equine animals. Glad you think so Becky. So those who don't know what I mean always start with little pressure if done should work for most and if more pressure is needed then you can always add a little more.

Once you use the chain for a shot cut, you have to use it forever. It is better just to take the time to train. The payoff is worth it because equines live a long time. ☀️❤️☀️

Love your videos but the tail will look better only one hand above the mark. Your technique is similar to the principles of natural horsemanship ....we trained our wild horses that way and it worked great. Thanks for the videos! lol at your cute dog in the background....

Love your videos! I wouldn’t say the circles are punishment. Teaching your mule/horse to yield the hind (and fore) are good techniques for riding. The only thing I’d critique is when you’re talking and not asking anything of your animal, allowing them to move their heads around can help them with flies (at one point Charlie went for a fly).

Mules LOVE horses and tend to be buddy sour. You want them to be attached to you and obedient with manners. That is how you handle it. ☀️❤️☀️

Hi Becky, I am struggling with my mini mule getting too far in front of me when we start walking. She is out of the gates and wants to run. I would eventually like to run with her, but I need her to master walking first. Do you have any tips for what I should do when she gets to the end of her lead rope and keeps pulling HARD! It takes all my strength to dig my heels in the ground and get her to stop.

You are doing it ALL wrong!! You have been teaching her all the bad manners so don’t blame her. Now it is going to take a lot of time to get it right, but you can do it. Step one, stop running with her until you train her. Build a hitching post. Always, always bring her there every single time you get her out! and tie her up, brush her, pick up her feet, clean them. Then untie her and bring her into a round pen or small pasture. Here is the part you will be teaching her or I should say reteaching her. Hold the lead line about 1 foot from the clip, you look straight forward, say walk, walk 4 steps. Stop, turn and face her, and get her to stand square. DO NOT look her in the eye, ever. Now stand like that for a full minute, say hood girl and Give her a little bite of oats from your Fanny pack, stand there while she chews, then face forward and say walk. Repeat that exact same thing 10 times every other day. Until she can walk by your side. Stop and stand. ☀️❤️☀️ 🥕

When you want your mule to walk you can use the end of the lead line to swing at his shoulders but like just brush him with it and cluck and he will go and do not let him go behind you

Any type of equine animal (donkey, mule, horse, pony) that pulls on the lead and disrespects you, obviously doesn't respect you and believes that they are the top mare/gelding/stallion. This can be corrected by using natural horsemanship techniques, *no aggression but lots of exercises that have to do with trust and a top tip for that is join ups, they work GREAT* Once a horse trusts you and WANTS to follow you because they know that you can lead them and keep them safe, then they will always either be next to you or behind you. You don't want an equine animal to be behind you too much though because if they spook, they can rear or bolt and end up hurting you. Equine animals are fight or flight animals and a lot of things spook them. Make sure they are next to you so just in case something happens, you can stay safe. Please be a little bit less aggressive with your hand movements when you're using the lead rope and don't yank their heads around. Remember that an equine animal is 1200ibs and if they get upset or mad because you accidently hit them or you scare them, you can get hurt really bad. Be careful with their face, their face is one of the most sensitive parts of a horse's face. Also, your "punishment circle" isn't punishment. It's used to get a horse to focus on you and not what they want to focus on. Horses and Mules don't hate it or dislike it, it happens in the wild with Alpha mares/stallions. They don't circle others but they pin their ears to get them to move and focus on them so that they aren't focused on whatever and the top horse can get them to do what they want. An equine animal pushes to pressure. You don't need to make an equine animal stand perfectly square with all their feet flat because it's not natural (I know nothing in the equine world is necessarily natural) An equine animal usually stops in the wild without being square. It's like a dog sitting perfect and square. It's not natural. Equine Animals stand with at least one foot in a different spot then square usually. Don't yank him or circle him for not being square.

For your safety, don't let him walk behind you. He could run you over or even rear up and land on you with his front hooves. The safe way to lead an equine is to walk by their shoulder.

Your joking, right? Watch the video again, was the mule standing obediently or was he starting to move off. The Proper time to correct is the second they start to ignore you, not when he is dragging me across the yard (with his nose). Some People are wimps and transfer their weakness to the animal. Big animals are not physically weak, they are super strong. Anyone that wants to handle them safely needs to have what it takes to train one or sooner or later they will get hurt badly. ☀️❤️☀️

I never buy a bad natured animal in the first place. Rearing up is very extreme behavior. I choose calm, good natured animals. It makes everything much more enjoyable. ☀️❤️☀️

That is how a very dominant mule or horse moves. They never move quick and snappy. They almost drag their feet. They obey, but they would much rather be in charge. ☀️❤️☀️
