My technique is very similar, but I put the treat hand between my knees, at nose-level for the dog and twitch my fingers for extra prey-drive incentive. She comes straight to me and places her nose between my knees. No jumping; no running past me.

Every method that works is the best way. Prey drive makes it better.
We need work on this one. My dog LOVES other dogs. I think he prefers them to me, so I know I've got to up my value to him. . . (Also, he is a total food hound and would probably leave me for a piece of kibble. . .)

That’s why I toss the treat to incorporate prey drive.
Any advice for those of us with dogs that have almost no food or toy drive?

If you get a high value treat (steak, KFC chicken strips) and toss it, will your dog go after it?

Sometimes, but he does a slow trot to it and will only eat it once or twice. The only thing that really gets him excited is actually seeing or catching scent of a live animal. @@BaebeasDogTrainingPortland
