I think that Zelda learning to use the shower drain is genius and I would be perfectly comfortable with that. However, if you are still having trouble with the cats not being able to just use the human seat, may I suggest you get a rubber cover for the human seat? They're very affordable (less than $4). If you do, you may be able to give Zelda a second chance at training; if she feels more stable on the human seat, she may not be intimidated by the training ring holes getting bigger Link to the rubber cover in next post (just in case YT doesn't let me leave a message with link) 👇🏼

I’m about to start teaching my cat, I’m wondering about flushable litter. Also I noticed you put the toilet seat down (I also bought cittikitty). Do I need to put the seat down? And how important is flushable litter??

@@darrenpokorski7756 I would absolutely use sewer safe litter. You might have problems with regular litter, it clogged my pipes. Yes you need to put the seat down, that is where they put their paws.

This is so incredible! Ziggy and Zelda have to be the smartest kitties on KZread!!! Our Bluebell still hasn't figured out how to use a litter tray properly let alone trying to train her to use the toilet!! LOL The other cats come along after her to clean her mess properly! It saves me having to do it though! LOL I think Zelda is still super smart using the shower drain.

My only clever idea was to use a child training toilet seat that folds up, so the cat has more space to balance. Basically, from Ring 4 or 5 I put the training seat down and put a touch of litter around to training seat so he has plenty of space to balance. I thought he might be hesitant about the transition, so I went back to Ring 1, but I don't think that was necessary because as soon as I tested him he didn't need any rings. I let him continue the scattering for a month, but just enough so he felt like he scattered something.

Thanks! No litter box ever is a success for me! Ziggy is a pro while Zelda prefers the shower drain 🤷‍♀️ what can I do? I have not reached 4k yet. If I'm optimistic in my math it will be 2 weeks if I'm realistic it will probably be more like 3-4 but I'll be there before August for sure! Tell Will hi from us!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Stay cool

I Like the look of this-- I clean my litter box BEFORE and AFTER every single USE-- my boys demand it!! ha. I have 3--- 2 are 5 and 1'2 years old and one is a 1 year old rescue... should be INTERESTING-- and YES- be sure for sewer safe litter!!! THANKS for the recommend on LOVES litter too. I'm sure I'll need that..

LOVES is the only litter I recommend even if you are not toilet training, due to the fact its 100% biodegradable . Your kitties are the perfect age to toilet train. Just be patient it takes time but worth it in the end ❤️ Good luck in your journey 😺

It's not too late for Emma. The only time its too late is if they have arthritis and its too painful to jump. It's a very long process and you need a lot of time. I found time was the hardest issue. I taught Ziggy and Zelda during the shut down, so I had nothing but time. Good luck if you decide to go this route 😻

I'm toilet training two cats at the same time. They are siblings - one a male (Chewy) and one a female (Meiya). I have the same issue but with slightly different outcomes. Chewy has no problem using the toilet and most of the time, pees and poops right in the middle of the hole. I'm not using a training kit but decided to use a large flower pot base made from plastic and cut a hole in it. It has a high enough rim on the edge to prevent kitty litter from falling over the edge. Meiya has no problem peeing in it and sits right over the hole. But when it comes to pooing, she refuses to use it and does it right on the floor behind the toilet. They both will pee in the tub and sink if I don't put water in it. Meiya's poop on the tile floor isn't that bad. It's usually firm and I can just scoop it up with toilet paper and dump it down the toilet. But I have other methods I'm tyring out to get her to use the toilet. I have a feeling that female cats are probably less interested in using the toilet than the males are. The biggest issue I see with these toilet trainers is that ultimately, the cat is suppose to learn to sit on only the toilet seat. But watch how cats really sit when they poop or pee and their front legs are usually spread further from the rear legs. My plan is to place a platform around the toilet that widens the toilet seat area to allow them to have more room to sit. If I need to use the toilet myself, I would just move the platform out of the way.

Sorry I didn’t see this comment earlier! I think you have a very good idea! I would like to know if it worked out with Chewy and Meiya. Pooping is still an issue with my female cat. Ziggy my male cat has everything down pat!

I would love to teach my cats to do that. 🙂

This really helped alot being I also live in an apartment with 2 cats who are both 1 year old, & I'm absolutely sick of dealing with there litter box, so seriously debating weather or not 2 try this system. My major concerns being we only have 1 toilet, is not only, of course, the daily mess it will cause, but when its time 4 us 2 use the bathroom, having 2 hold it while removing kitty seat, then cleaning toilet & floor, then having 2 put seat back on so its accessible 4 cats 2 use daily, & keeping the toilet seat up at all times when usually its recommended 2 close toilet seat b4 flushing. How do U handle sharing that 1 toilet with 2 cats daily, ESPECIALLY when company is over or if U have kids?... I mean, this would only be an issue for a few months thru training period, but still, what happens when U really gotta go, for example in middle of night when U wake up 2 pee?...

Yes I understand the big dilemma whether or not to toilet train with only one toilet. It will be difficult and not fun for a for a bit. And I think there was only one time where I really need to use the bathroom and the kitty seat was there, but it's not as common as you think. I have a sticker on the lid to remind people that my cats are toilet trained. Company will understand that you are toilet training cats and they will always think that it's amazing, not one person has complained. Now that they are completely trained they understand the process and are completely amazed. I believe it is worth the time and trouble. Best of luck to you, and just be patient ❤️

Zelda is a very smart kitty. When I am home she will poop in the toilet, no problem and she does get a treat afterwards but when I am at work and away she does poop in the tub. 🤷‍♀️ Ziggy pees and poops in the toilet

I'm using the littlerkwitter and my cat remi was using the 1st stage fine for about 4 weeks I assumed we could change to the next step. We'll today I attempted to change it and it ended in disaster pee n poop in the living room not fun as well I put the first step back and ended up locking him in the bathroom for tonight. I'm hoping he'll correlate the two and won't have any more issues. It's frustrating forsure

yes I understand the frustration. What I did was put a doggie pee pad where the litter box use to be. so when they have an accident its on the pee pad. It took about a month or so before I removed the first ring. Make sure you give treats after they use the toilet. That way remi correlates the bathroom with treats. I have no more rings on my toilet and Ziggy still cries for treats after he uses the toilet and we have had no more accidents. Hope this helps ❤️

Hi! I'm trying to train my cat to do this and she's been great at using the city kitty trainer. My only issue is that instead of perching on the toilet seat, she awkwardly has all four paws in the litter ring and sometimes falls in (we're on the last ring). Do you have any tips on correcting her form?

I've heard of this being a problem with female cats. I would continue to keep the last ring on for a while, just for her security. When she does do it correctly make sure to give her treats. That way she will realized that when she does it a certain way she gets rewarded. Hope this helps 😻😻

I’m currently using the citi kitty with my two cats and one is going on it great and one hasn’t used it once and pees in the shower and poops elsewhere this has been going on for 3 weeks how do I get them both to use it 😭

No way. A year old is actually a perfect time. Put the litter box next to the toilet and use citi kitty at the same time. Then put a doggie pee pad where the litter box was and your cat will understand to start using the toilet as a litter box. Good luck and keep me update on how your progress is doing. 😻😻

Zelda only poops in the tub when I'm not home. She goes on the toilet when I'm home. She knows what to do but doesn't always do it. 🤦‍♀️ Cats are smarter than we think

Right now we have 3 cats, 2 of the 3 are using CitiKitty the way they should..t he third is giving me trouble.. peeing and pooping on the floor. So I reintroduced a small litter box right next to the toilet with the citikitti in it.. I was thinking..i would then move it so its side by side to the toilet..and then remove it again..what do you think about this strategy?

I think it is a very good strategy. I would recommend putting down pee pad where the litter box use to be for those occasions when accidents happen. Good luck! keep me updated ❤️❤️

I want to get the button flusher. The handle flusher uses 9 pounds of pressure to flush. Ziggy only weighs 9 pounds. But if they could flush it would be such a game changer 😹😹😹😹😹

Zelda the female cat that pees in the shower drain, she poops in the toilet when I am home but when I am at work she poops in the tub 🤷‍♀️. She knows what to do. Just doesn't want to do it when I am not home. Ziggy the male cat does all his business in the toilet.

Funny thing about that. If I am home she will poop in the toilet no problem. But if I am at work unfortunately she will poop in the tub. Zelda knows better, just refuses to do it if I'm not home 🤦‍♀️

Ziggy uses the toilet to pee and poop. Zelda uses the tub to pee and when I'm home she uses the toilet to poop but if I am at work she uses the tub.🤦‍♀️ She is a sly, smart kitty 🐱

@@ZiggyAndZeldaThis is interesting. I’ve heard that some cats don’t like to pee and poop in the same place, that might be why she’s refusing to pee in the toilet. My cat continued to pee in the litterbox and poop on the floor next to it until I got her a second litter box.
