Many different designs for each type of project are also included. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

We do a lot of bathroom tile work as part of our remodeling business. Emphasizing the shower pan leak test up front is very first "must do" for any DIYER wanting to take this project on. And using hard plastic spacers on wall tile is very good practice and for large tiles it is a must. Beautiful workmanship.

I’ve always been mesmerized by how artistic tile guys are. The precisión and attention to detail is unmatched. Unlike finish carpentry(which I do) you can’t hide a mistake with woodfiller and paint. I have tremendous amount of respect for good tile setters and they definitely deserve every dollar they make.

@@Nk-bc1qb No problem! One thing I’ve notice with great tile guys is that if their waterproofing is solid, I know they’re gonna be good. Usually when they pay so much attention to something that isn’t even gonna be seen(I.e mortar, red guard, hardie back etc) it means they’ll be even more attentive when setting. Hats off to you a from one tradesman to another. I’ve been doing carpentry for 10years at 28 yrs old and I can honestly say I still feel like an apprentice haha everyday is a new thing to learn.

Agreed. My jobs are pristine when I'm done setting and I think you're money ahead keeping it clean as you go. It's easy to ruin tiles whenever anything metal is poking around. The edges of porcelain are extremely brittle and you can pop off the tile face if you move a tool the wrong way cleaning joints. And whatever you do, keep hammers far, far, far away from tile work! Nothing good will come from accidentally dropping a hammer on your perfect tile job!!

What quality quality content this is. From the filmography, to the work itself, to the commentary to the transitioning.

I can't believe I started watching this series 4 or 5 years ago. It will probably be a great relief for EC, and me, when the whole thing is over. Thank you very much for doing it. Not much longer now!

Dragging is an interesting way of saying it. Keeping the great content at ready for some time is certainly one part of the puzzle, but I think even if they would want to avoid such impressions it would be extremely hard to put out the videos as stuff is happening on the house. There is so much going on that Nate would have to be editing non stop to even vaguely keep up with the progress. I like that they take the time and present a quality video when it is ready rather than pump it out quickly so they would be following the real situation out there.

Little tip from a tile setter. Keep away from epoxy grout unless you are doing a swimming pool or hot tub. It really isn’t necessary for this application. Use Mapei Ultracolor grout. No sealer required and no efflorescence like the basic grouts since there is no Portland cement used. Fantastic video though. I love all your content sir.

Yeah, this EC guy doesn't do as much research as he probably should. There's definitely a third choice between plain powder grout and epoxy, ie acrylic grout. Mapei makes a good one but there are others.

TEC Power Grout is another excellent option. It’s the only grout we use, and far easier to work with than epoxy grout.

This feels so much like when you start to get close to the end of a long book you've loved and don't want to end.

There are certain jobs I'll gladly do myself and then there are the jobs I'll gladly pay someone else to do. Tiling definitely falls into the latter category!

It’s fully evil to do badly, to do it well is impossible

Here in Europe it's not recommended to use two-component epoxy grouts in places like showers. Epoxy grout is water tight both ways - it won't let the water in, but it also won't let the water (moisture) out. There's always some moisture underneath the tiles, despite 90+ % bonding. Tile waterproofing keep the moisture from penetrating lower layers, but the moisture needs to get out. Cement based grout has higher vapour permeability, so it allows that moisture to come out. Also the very corners of adjacent walls/floor should not be grouted. Even though epoxy grout is somewhat flexible and deformable it will crack in the corners with time. The best way is to use a mould resistant acid cure silicone (except for natural stone). If done properly, it won't degrade for 4-6 years. Besides, there are no eternal tile works. There are well maintained bathrooms and showers with periodic inspections and the others :).

In the US we build our bathrooms to be remodeled every 10-15 years. At least that's how old they are before they start really showing signs of wear.

@@utuberdave I think that is not the matter of being smarter or not. We just have more urban areas and many people live in apartments where it's harder to do remodelling too often. In a place like block of flats any failure may have serious consequences, both material and financial. So we try to do all the construction work as reliable and serviceable as possible. Many of your solutions are simpler, cheaper faster and smarter than ours. But some are unwise beyond any comprehension.

Marvellous to see a good tiler at work. I remember a few years ago when we had a tiler in for a bathroom renovation. He was great, he told the building contractor off (he was a subcontractor) and made them come back with better structural reinforcement and straightened the edges. A good tiler is worth more than just the tiling job.

Use a soft, small brush to remove the thinset that oozes out while it's still wet to save a lot of headache detailing

You can't honestly expect to learn how to tile in 15 minutes. He's pointing out important details, layout, back butter, directional trowl and most importantly waterproofing. Miss those 4 and you have a hack doing the job. It's that simple. Not really a diy job.

Good warning on the epoxy grout. The average DIYER needs to stay far away from it. They should go with a premium premix grout that includes stain protection and mildewcide to prevent molds.

As a DIYer, I've never had the courage to try epoxy grout. I think I'm too slow of a worker to pull it off. I used a premium premixed grout a few months ago and was pleased with the results.

I am a Master Carpenter. Of course I say this only because I have been doing it for almost 30 years. But I am sure that there’s still more I don’t know, or more that I humbly want to learn. Layout is always important in my opinion. I have done all phases of residential and Commercial work. I am good at what I do. Because I enjoy what I do. And the feeling of knowing that I did a good job. I enjoy these videos, and the extra knowledge I gain from the videos.

I know how much time takes to do a good tile installation, and here in this video it is shown, so I don't know how the tv programs of house renovations can do this in such little time, I just don't trust the quality of those works, they show only a good looking, but quality performance in time (5 or 15 years or more), that cannot be tested in TV programs. Here I see the amount of work taken to set, cut and install the tiles and grouting. Looks a very well, detailed done installation. Thanks for your videos.

Epoxy grout is a milestone in modern times as Roman concrete was in its day. Beautiful tile system from industry leaders. Tiled a ton in my 20's, and love the new standards, and dependability of new products. Fit in a small interlock install for the garbage /recycling pad near the curb. It's a popular install, easy to get right, and wrong!

The layout of tile can be the toughest part of the job. It includes shifting the pattern over one way or the other to accommodate windows that are not exactly in the right spot or placement of outlets, bars, and special items. Sure you can go around them, but a lot of forethought goes a long way before the tile guy gets to even see the job. Starting placement of floor or wall tiles can alter the whole thing.

I enjoyed watching the care taken and constant checking as the tile were laid out. I wondered what the extra stuff was being put into the grout until you mentioned epoxy so I assume that was it?

Very nice

This was great. I've done a good bit of tiling in my own homes, and it's good to see pros doing things much the way I did them, only way faster, of course. On walls, I did way less vertical in a single session, wanting to be absolutely sure the previous section was fully adhered before putting anything above it. The paranoia of an amateur. One thing I didn't see here that I learned years ago is part of the layout. If you have a large hole, as for the shower controls, and you're using hard tiles (like porcelain, vs. ceramic), it's best to plan it so the hole center is between two tiles. I had one that was about the center of the tile. Maybe there's a better solution to this problem, but I ended up using a tile splitter on that tile, then cutting the half-holes along the split, then fitting the two pieces back together carefully. It took a pretty close look to spot the split, but it would have been better to have not needed that at all. I always find tiling to be a bit stressful as I'm planning it and actually doing it, as I'm concerned about screw-ups and the extra work they end up requiring, but once the work is done, it's a great feeling to admire it for years to come.

You're absolutely right, making a clean hole (even if it's round, but especially if it's not round) in the MIDDLE of something as brittle as a tile or a pane of glass is something beyond the capabilities of your average DIYer, and likely still challenging even for the best craftsmen. So, laying out the tile so that at least one joint passes over that hole is a much superior layout choice, as you mentioned. I do like your solution (tile splitter and then cut out the half-circle sections out of the edge created by the splitter), but since I don't have as much confidence in the tile splitter, I'd have used a more traditional tile saw on that tile and just made the resulting joint look like it was meant to be there from the beginning. Much easier to reliably seal and grout it that way, instead of having basically no gap to put any kind of filler into and therefore potentially having a spot where a crack and/or leak might develop in the future. Then again, I've never laid tile in my life, and I'm just fine with keeping it that way, so maybe I'm wrong about this whole thing (instead I'd hire someone who has years of experience).

@@JosephWheeler14 For holes like the ones for shower controls, that would be a very large diamond bit, and a home gamer would likely only get a single use from it.

I demo’d and installed 2’x1’ tiles on the floors of 6 full baths, 2 1/2 baths, our upper laundry closet, our lower laundry room and an outdoor shower by our pool, over the course of 2 yrs of roof-to-foundation renovations on our 20 y/o 6k sq ft North Texas home…. My progress in understanding the approach, materials, tools, sequencing of steps, set and install techniques and related tips and tricks of the trade, are clearly evident over the scope of the various projects. Moreover, the accumulated insight and wisdom has significantly streamlined and reduced the overall project duration times.

Tile guys are a special breed. It takes experience, patience, and determination to do a first class job.

I came to the house yesterday, since I misread the website (I left that note), and I'm bummed I couldn't see this shower or much of anything else. It looks great! You've done a lot of great work here, and whomever buys the place is a lucky person. I'll be using this Schluter system when I redo my shower, as I think it's the best too. I used Ditra when I tiled my mom's house and won't ever use cement board!

I am a tile setter for almost 20 years now and it never gets old to see good work beeing done, like in ths video. The result look great. But I don´t get the spacers; I only use them installing heavy tiles on walls.

Nice work guys. Niche maybe a 1.5" to left better. But probly lumber you didnt wantbto move. In our new home builds . Bull nose is out only some pencil but mostly Schulter strips Solid product on sills shelves and seats. Nice work and looks like hood design and products.

Looks good. I probably would have waterproofed that shower before drywall. Imagine if it leaked below!

The tile choice and the quality labor by these guys makes me jealous for whoever gets to shower in that temple the rest of their lives.

I love the way you guys put the ads in the clips without it being annoying. When the company gives you free, high quality tiles they certainly do deserve to be mentioned and promoted. There are other channels where they bombard you with ads constantly, I'm looking at you Linus.

I equate grouting a shower like that to running a marathon. Once you start a grout job, you're running against the clock. A second pair of hands helps a lot. If you are using one of the so-called super grouts (stain resistant & fast setting), your timing has to be perfect. That stuff can get away from you if you apply too much and can't get your wipes done before it flashes off and turns concrete!!

Rectified tiles often have perfect edges - sharp too.

Really bummed I wasn't able to make the drive up to see the finished product last weekend; lots of things all came together on the same day.

I always clean out the grout lines before the glue sets.

Ive done a couple of showers. It turns out there's skill involved. Anybody can tell im not a pro for as long as the tile remains.

I like the "marble look" v. real marble. The porosity of real marble makes it a poor choice for houses that people live in. I've found it easier to detail before the thinset dries.

Is there a reason for doing the wall tile first? Ive always heard to tile to floor first and lap the wall tile to prevent water penetration

Correct, setting floor tile first is a better practice because it eliminates long grout joints around the parameter of the pan.

@@chinaskibukowski7747 I am guessing that industry specs are similar to here in the UK - there should be NO grout in internal corners. Silicone caulk should be used. Therefore it is a bit of a moot point whether to tile the floor or walls first. (I usually tile floors first in any case!)

He put the floor tiles under the wall tiles, same idea as tiling the floor first, but it means you don't need to stand all over the tiled floor with ladders and dirty tools while doing the wall first.

Why not just use a damp toothbrush to clean the squeeze out whole installing the tile? Then there's no risk of penetrating the membrane.

Because there is no risk penetrating the membrane. If there was then you wouldn't be able to trowel your thinset on. Not to mention the amount of unessessary labour you are creating.

@@laurensplompen Keep in mind there's a layer of mortar between the tile and the membrane. They only need to clean the mortar which is in the crack, no need to go that deep.

I think they're using a knife because the thin set has dried out and hardened. Going at it with a toothbrush wouldn't do a thing, needs to be something that can cut it out of the joints.

It is easiest to clean the thinset squeezed through the grout lines when it is slightly set. If it is still mostly liquid it's difficult to clean completely; if it is slightly set, then it comes out very easily with the scrape of a razor blade. It has the consistency of set drywall compound. With a practiced hand, a razor is the only way to tackle the job.
