    I believe best practice is to tile the bottom of the niche before the sides or top

    yes. This is 1000% correct. Because water flow says so. The way he does it will result in moisture damage over time.

    Totally agree. I always think about water intrusion when tiling. Bottom always first.

    If water can beat your grout caulking it will beat your tile order too.

    How do you trowel the walls of the niche, in particular the top/sides/bottom? It looked like you buttered the bottom of the niche, did you trowel/comb the tile? Thanks!

    Great vid. About how many inches up is the bottom of your niche? I see a great time saver avoiding unnecessary cuts. Thanks!

    Love your videos and positive attitude. I have learned a lot. Just one question, between the aluminium edge and the tile, do you grout or silicon? Surely you don’t leave bare for water to go in there. What’s your preference?

    I'd like to know as well. I've seen many use grout, which makes sense but he stated he "had no time for grout" and didn't really leave any gap for something to be used between the two. I just finished mine and left about 1/16 gap and plan to fill with grout when I get to that stage.

    @@Nativtexan2 I still have a while to go before I finish my project. I am leaning towards silicon as silicon is also used in the corners of the niche. Will also make sense on the edging I put on the seat. When I finish I will make a KZread video as this was a big project for me. I’m not a tiler but I feel I could have done a PHd on the topic by the amount I’ve read and researched. 🙂

    @@sogno2me I know right? I've watched and read so much about tiling in prep for my bathroom I think I could open my own business now LOL. But watching ain't doing and that's the real trick. I'll just be glad when I'm done with my project and that's the last time I plan on ever tiling something.

    Thanks for this video, but would you do show one additional step the next time you illustrate a niche? Show the edges of the wall tiles in relation to the edge of the niche up close. Your camera is so far away, we can’t see where the two meet. Does the wall tile stop before the niche, even with the niche or extend past the edge of the niche? It would be helpful to see these small details. Thanks

    Do you grout the niche also???

  • @kkp4297
    @kkp42972 жыл бұрын

    water flow... in a niche, the bottom horizontal tile should always be installed first, and cut the same length as the top horizontal tile. The side tiles should sit ON TOP of horizontal bottom tile. This way water will never get trapped under those lower corners through the grout. Always think about how water drains. The backerboard in that niche should be bone dry, with no possible water intrusion from the corners.

    Why didn’t you put the sill last?

  • @Sugarfoot108

    Because it is slightly angled for drainage. If you do it first you will have to angle-cut the sides. This is the easiest method and works well
