How to tighten a loose tap/basin/sink or bath, from swinging around .

How to fix a basin tap that is loose in the wash hand basin and swings around when trying to turn it on or off. Also this tip can be used on bath and sink taps that are lose.

    Thanks for the vid 👍🏼 My taps were really really hard to undo. After loads of research online i found a tool called ‘easy tapsplitter’ i got them undone straight away. Worth a try if your taps are really tight.

    Tape a small round battery operated torch on to the shank of the basin wrench,copying the new electric drills which have lights shining exactly on the spot you are working on.Could the camera be fixed to your head with adjustable headband?.

    Those isolator valves always look nice and clean in videos, on the rare occasion I have to turn off the water, the valve is inevitably seized up, and won't turn off!

    Metal ring fastener under a bath tap using an easyplier; square end for the wash basin and round end for the bath tap. I will buy the easyplier and start with the basin first. Call a plumber in London just for that and he'll charge you £99! Only £1.70 for the easyplier plus a torch and a bit of courage will save me £99!

    Good video, very helpful. Would be useful if somewhere sold a kit for everything in the video, both spanners, a metal washer and the small black washer for the connecting pipe. I can find the two spanners fine but there are so many washers it is hard knowing what to get. My setup is identical to the sink and taps in the video.

    Tom, go to any plumbers merchant and ask for a box of assorted rubber and fibre washers. About a fiver for every tap connector washer you'll ever need.

    Some times the basin wrench will not fit, so it is the only option.

    I know this is a old video. Do you probably won’t see this. But just ordered a box spanner of Amazon. But I haven’t got a clue what washer to get! I’m gonna attempt to fix it this week. My water is just slow running from the tap.

    It is a 15 mm rubber sealing washer for the tap base. (I reply to all comments no matter how old the video is)

    the problem i've had with metal nuts is rust and impossible to remove later...stick with plastic. Might not last as long but removal is much easier.

    Great video and very helpful! Unfortunately my problem is bigger than loosen bolt: both the horseshoe and the bolt went rusty, brittle and fell off. I need to buy a new horsehoe and bolt and fix them myself, but where exactly does the bolt screw into? Does the exact position matter? Thanks!

    It is called a tap backnut box spanner. Not sure what it`s actual size is.

    Hi, I just washed your video I think I just need the nut to be tightened as it became loose while trying to put on some hose attachment. I’d prefer not to take it all apart so could I just try and tighten it up and that may stop the taps from moving around?

    My bottle wouldn't fit under the tap so i crushed it to fit it under and turned on the water, and the bottle filled right up and popped the tap out. The bottle was completely stuck on the tap. I had to stab the bottle with a knife and water sprayed all over the room. After an hour of cutting i got the bottle off but now the tap is completely lose. Moral of the story, if your bottle doesnt fit under the tap dont crush it.

    You are right you do not have to it is just better to reseal the tap with a new washer or plumbers mait and a new brass backnut .

    It was a long time ago. Most taps these days are monoblock mixers, so not much call for redoing the video.

    My tap has none of that shit, but good to know why it's so fail and what sort of tool I might need. I don't know a delicate way to do this, instructions while breathing and grunting.. With your voice it's hard not to hear the similarities to certain videos on a hub or sorts. You don't happen to have a taxi or interview for potential model as well do you?
