What cup sizes are you using throughout the weld? How far out should the tungsten be? How many Amps for root, hot pass, fill and caps?

On 2” I run 85 amps root then turn up to 100, a 5 cup for root and a 7 on cap. Easiest way to set up tungsten depth is just do your stick out half of cup size. But I don’t freehand so most guys that free hand run bigger cup with more stick out.

I was told never to buff the fill before a cap cause you could lose the lines

Who the f k told you that stupid sh t? After you fill, grind down any high spots and try to make it as flat and smooth as you can. Smoother and flatter your fill is, the easier your cap. As for "losing the lines," you make your own lines after the first cap. The top of it becomes your "line" and overlap it with your second cap. Then the top of your second cap becomes your line for the next cap and so on.

Whatever you’re comfortable with if you’re slower low amps if you’re faster higher amps also depends on gap landing sch of pipe and thickness of wire
