HOW TO TIE THE QUICK GUY-LINE

Ойын-сауық

TARPS / TENTS AND MANY OTHER CAMPING DEVICES NEED A STAKE AND LINE TO KEEP IT SECURE.MANY TIMES THIS LINE IS A SIMPLE ROPE AND A STAKE O NTHE END WITH A FEW KNOTS THROWN IN TO SECURE IT.THIS VIDEO SHOWSA NEW WAY TO DO THAT OLD JOB, A GUY LINE THAT CAN BE ADJUSTED FOR LENGHT AND NOT REQUIRE NEW KNOTS BE TIED. THE QUICK GUY-LINE IS A CORD WITH A BOWLINE ON ONE END AND A PRUSIK KNOT ON THE OTHER THAT JOINS BACK TO ITSELF TO FOR THE SELF TIGHTEN KNOT. IF THE CORDAGE USED IS 550 PARACORD OR #36 TARED BANK LINE IT WILL WORK WELL. I CREATE MY GUYLINES THEN LEAVE THEN ATTACHED TOTHE TENT STAKES AND ROLL THEM UP FOR EACH USE.THIS WILL MAKE SET UP QUICK AND FAST WITH LITTLE EFFORT.

Here's a helpful hint for those using especially slippery cord. When you tie the prussic loop, instead of just making three turns, go 4, 5, or 6. Doing this greatly increases the friction so it grabs the line better. This applies to friction knots in general, the more turns, the more friction. Hope this helps!

Cheers Blackie. Brilliant video. I'm ex British Para & we used some meen knots for to put up some tarps(basha's). Use tarps & bashas alot these days sleeping out so.e weekends down on the moors. THIS VID EVERYONE, shows a frightfully simple combination of two great knots we all know to make a quick set up even faster. Can't think why I never thought of that myself before Blackie. As we say here GOOD JOB. WELL DONE MARRA (FREIND)

Good technique and tip Blackie! One of the biggest advantage of a prusick over a taut line hitch is the additional loop which causes additional friction, and is more likely to remain in place under tension.

I love this idea. I did make one little change. I put a poachers noose on the end that normally would have the prusik. It restricts and stays tight when under pressure just as the prusik does. I put the toggle on line with the noose behind the knot and it makes the cord highly functional. Thanks again for the video, Blackie. edit: Went back to using the prusik. The poachers noose doesn't want to stay stable when under pressure.

I really like how this allows someone to get rid of the metal or plastic hardware and just use the rope, saving a few grams, while being just as functional. Thanks for the tip on wrapping the line around the stake for stuffing.... Ive definitely been one to try and leave the line on the tarp an not loved how stuffing/rolling with the lines resulted.

great videos Blackke! Just happened upon your channel, but have watched a bunch of you vidos. very goodd stuff, and well done. i like the quick guyline - although ive used something similar, i never thought to take the loop off the tree and carry it around like that great idea! Fwiw, something ive been using lately is the fairmond friction hitch...it would replace your prusik + bowline with one knot, and can be made quick realease (but secure.) Ive used it on the anchor side of a ridgeline with a truckers hitch on the other end and actually broken the cord on the truckers slip knot without the friction hitch slipping. its basically just a prusik with a different ending method. Anyway im suscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your vids.

Way Better than a Taught Line Hitch. I am going to tie mine with a larger Bowland on the end to do a pass through though. Then no toggle will be necessary. Camp ground thinking not just out in the woods thoughts. Since I do both. Thanks for the information, I like this all in one system. Wa

I have a question (forgive my stupidity) Is there a standard basic length of the loop that you make your prussic knot? I'm trying to set up a quick and easy tarp ridgeline using paracord for the ridgeline and No. 36 Bankline for the the 2 prussic loops, just like your video on the quick ridgeline. Thanks. 👍

Blackie, this question is a little off topic from what you are covering here but on one of your 'Percussion Revolver" videos you show using a kit to make up paper cartridges. I had a , maybe dumb, question concerning the construction but here goes. When you do the loading of the chamber with individual components you used wads, yes? Is not the chance of 'chain fire' still the same with paper cartridge's as with individual components? If so, why do you not put a wad in the paper cartridge? For that matter, why do you not use some 'soy wax pearls' in the powder of the paper cartridge as well? Maybe I'm missing something other than the limited space inside the paper cartridge tube. Can you let me and others know? Thanks for your time, sir. Matt
