This is the elegant, yet simple look that I'm looking for. It leaves its triangular shape present, if done right, aside from the Eldredge, compared to the Windsor. And it'll also leave that clean inward dimple down the middle right under the knot too, that fresh corporate/media look. That you for the lesson. This beats the Windsor down and sits comfortably up there with the Eldredge and Trinity in my book.

Using this tutorial was the first time EVER that I have gotten this knot right on the first try. It usually takes many tries. Key was how far down to pull the thin side, and "From now on, we will be working with the wide side". Thanks!

This Pratt or Shelby knot is much the same as Plattsburg knot except that here one gets the Pleat/Dimple which is the in thing and gives a corporate feel, and suits synthetic ties as well

This is a half Windsor knot. Been around for ever. It's all I've used for 30 years. Having a long upper torso I have had issues finding longer ties. This knot looks best when you have enough of the large section of the tie in the knot otherwise it gets too skinny and just all wrong. Good vid.

+Mark Linder Not at all a half windsor. It uses less length and is started with the seam out. This video isn't really a great example of a Pratt knot, but it's definitely not a half windsor.

When I was maybe 14 I just went to the library and read a book on ties. Pratt/Shelby seemed like the best option. Not sure why it's not more popular

I stand corrected. I tried it for awhile but after finding the 4 in hand again and giving it a go I doubt I'll use a half Windsor or Pratt for a long time.

Yeah, I think the Windsor was big circa 50s when double breasted suits and large lapels were in (the Hitchcock look). Now we're more into slim fits and contours, so the 4-in-hand definitely has more place.

+Donald Sullivan This is absolutely not a half windsor. You tie a half windsor with the seam in, like most knots. The Pratt is tied seam out, uses less length, is easier to adjust, holds better and I personally find it a lot easier to get symmetrical.

Andrew Flanagan uses less fabric so you can get good length. Also much easier to dimple. Been doing Windsors and halfs for years and I tried one of these and I'm sold
