An 'Ascot tie' or day cravat tend to be the most common names for this. I suppose you could use a regular scarf but it would end up being pretty thick; as you can see, the one in the video is very fine and light in material. An Ascot is normally silk and just over a metre long. The centre is folded into ridges to make it narrower is rather wide on each end. Hope this helps.

Now I have seen the Ascot worn with Victorian style dress shirts which don't have a collar for the traditional tie of today and because there is no collar it actually makes it possible to wear the ascot on the outside of the dress shirt, this also necessitates that one wear a vest so that one is not left with a piece of silk dangling about on their chest while they are trying to make a first impression.

Thanks for the video. Do you start with a standard scarf and just tie it as an ascot? Or is there an 'ascot scarf'? How long should it be? I am finding out there is a lack of ascots out ther in most men's shops and I've never worn an ascot before so I'm lacking in what you would probably consider basic 'ascot knowledge'.
