How To Tie A Trucker's Hitch

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Learning how to tie a trucker's hitch is one of the most useful life skills ever. Also known as a mover's knot, tie-down knot, or truckers knot, this knot is used to tie down any load by creating a super tight, slip-free knot.
The trucker's hitch is a compound knot that is frequently used for securing loads on trucks or trailers. You can also tie this knot to make a clothes line, rig a tarp, secure drybags on a raft or kayak, and a million other uses.
This knot works with any rope, flat webbing, or tubular webbing. The truckers hitch does not jam no matter how much you load the knot, and it comes apart easily once tension is released.
The knot is locked with a simple half-hitch to keep it secure even when wet or in high wind (while driving, etc.)
In this video I also teach you how to tie a G.E. Knot, which is a hitch to secure your rope to the initial anchor point. The G.E. Knot is also very easy to tie and comes apart instantly by pulling the tail of the rope.
Get a rope or strap and practice tying the trucker's hitch while you watch this video. Once you master it, it's a life hack you'll have forever.

You forgot the most important part... after tying your load you have to say the obligatory "that's not going anywhere".

Get some rope and follow the video and practice. That’s the only way I learned how to do it. Watching a video is great for learning how to do things but sometimes you need to have the instructions in front of you until you learn how to do it correctly. Once you’ve mastered it then you won’t have any problems.

Pops taught me this knot as a kid, wasn’t a trucker, but was a Boy Scout, and knew his knots. Never called it a truckers hitch, and honestly I don’t remember what he called it. But I’ll say, I use this knot consistently at work, it makes all the young kids scratch their heads like “How’d he get that so tight?”, and the old heads go “you know your knots!” Thanks dad! lol

I've just used this hitch for an unusual purpose...I had a dead young buck stuck in my field fence, with head and neck through one square and a front leg through another--it was big enough that I couldn't budge him when I tried to pull him out. I didn't have a comealong but I remembered in your video you said the trucker's hitch gives a 3:1 mechanical advantage in pulling....so I got some rope, tied one end to the hind legs with a clove hitch, looped the other end around a wooden fence post and used the trucker's hitch to pull the deer out. Worked beautifully.

I watched 5 or 6 videos on the trucker's hitch and your video was by far the best. I have shared it with about 10 friends so far. Thank-you for this simple, easy to follow instructional video. Yesterday, I tied down a trellis in the yard so it won't blow over in 100mph winds; 4 rope tie-offs in less then 10 minutes. It took longer to cut off the tangled mess of knots I had created in previous years.

Brandon I really like your GE knot combined with this truckers hitch combination, I have actually "tested" it against another favorite knot of mine called the Siberian Hitch. I have found your knot to be superior! It cinches down tighter and does not come undone with a dynamic load yet there's no need to cut my line after the trip!!! Thank you.

I think it might be structurally equivalent to the Siberian hitch. I think both are slipped figure eight nooses. He just wraps the GE around the standing end and your wrap the Siberian around your hand once, then twist your hand over the standing end for the second twist, if that makes sense. It's always hard to explain knots with words rather than demonstrating them.

@@mehardin I agree and understand, the Siberian hitch is a "slipped" figure of eight.. either one could probably be used...

Heavily Relied on duct tape and looked like an idiot on the way home. Had to make sure I took all the tape off quick before my dad saw how I just used tape. And now I’m here thanks for the future saves lol.

A second pass of the line through the loop formed near the load adds enough friction to allow balance of tying without any loss of tension.
