Omamori (御守) are small paper or fabric packets received in exchange for donations given to a Japanese Shinto or Buddhist temple. The front of the packets, which are not to be opened, show the name of the temple at which they were received. And the back of the packets show a benefit gained for possession of the packet. Omamori are typically sealed with a Japanese Tassel Knot, which the following video will show you how to tie.

For my drawing class, we are supposed to tie an omamari knot, and my teacher couldn’t explain it well............and she even recommended this video, and in like, half an hour, I figured it out. To all those people who are reading the comments, because they are struggling with this, just don’t give up, have patience, have passion, and just like, look very closely, if you think it’s exhausting, look at my hands! (My hands totally oofed)

Great video, and the time you took with each step will be exceptionally helpful when I actually attempt this in about an hour. ;) On another note, in researching making of the omomori and materials, I came across, what appears to be, the actual name for the omomori tassle knot. There are a few different names and can be slight variation, but I believe it's called the agemaki knot, which is closely related to the sauvastica knot (buddah knot) and the true lovers knot. There are some discrepancies in many articals due to historical variation, so don't quote me on this, but I thought I'd share. Thanks again & good luck everyone!

This knot appears in Miyuki incense bag beading kit and is part is giving me trouble from watching the video I can see where I'm going wrong. The bead weaving part is easy just this knot which completes the design the top loop is small closer to middle. There are clear diagrams I don't know much Japanese text to figure out what it says.

Great instructions, thanks! Protip for beginners, don’t bother doing this with string that’s not straight. I’m trying to re-do this knot after it came undone, and my plasticy nylon string is too bent out of shape after being knotted for so long.

That is the most horrible music (?), noise, I have ever heard on KZread. It was a mix of fingernails on a chalk board, Smurfette being sexually tortured to death, and a cats balls being eaten off by a giant rat.
