How To Tie A Double Four-In-Hand | Tie A Tie
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In today's video, I'm showing you how to tie my favorite tie knot - the double four-in-hand.
For my money, there’s no other tie knot with the same brand of style and casual ease than the double four-in-hand. It’s simple. It’s not perfectly symmetrical. And with it’s double wrap around, it’s got an element of style that you only see when you look at it more closely.
Also, as a guy with a shorter torso, that double wrap really helps “shorten” the tie a little making them not appear as if they’re too long or forcing me to tuck the narrow end into my shirt.
It’s important to note that while a double four-in-hand knot works with most ties, it does not work with all ties. This is not the knot to use with a thick wool tie as the thickness of the fabric would make the tie knot so incredibly large that it would appear utterly ridiculous.

it's great you provide this service to men...many are conditioned to think men shouldn't have style and pride in how they look..

Thanks! To me, it's a show of respect.
I’ve found this the perfect solution to tie 4 in hand with really long tie. This not only solve the problem of the smaller end ends up longer than the bigger one but also produce really great looking knot compared to normal 4 in hand.

Sometimes if the smaller end is a little longer, I like that depending on the outfit. It's a little "I don't care" in the best possible way. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, sprezzatura is the way to go in that case. Cheers.
This is the best version of the Prince Albert knot that I have seen 👍🏻🆒
The Christensen, the Cross Knot, the Prince Albert, and now the double four-in-hand. It must be an epic knot to be known by so many names :) I love this knot too.

Thanks for chiming in!!
It took about 8 tries, but I finally got that bastidge to work. The hard part is getting the long end thru the loop without having it all fall apart. I like the look,

Make sure you're holding the double loop together with one hand. That's the key.

If I couldn't tie that knot, it would have been Fargin' WAR!
I used this for years before I found out it had a name. And yes I used it for the same reasons you did.

Hey Brian, awesome tutorial! I was just having trouble falling asleep and so I began watching your videos. Now I remember watching several "how to " videos on various things. I must say, you have CREATED the very best instructional videos I have seen. Excellent real world talk through as well as simple key points of mention. Do you have a instructional video for your proper bow tie?

Thank you my friend, you saved my life.
Thank you so much! Fantastic looking knot and yes the under wrap getting exposed adds another element to it! Love it

Brian you know me all too well. I've noticed you have been making the slim blade peak out to the side more often now. Decided to try this yesterday and now I'm In love. I must say though you achieved it much more nonchalantly than I. Took quite a bit of fidgeting to get it to stay peaked.

Nice! This style of knot is a winner.
Love the devil may care nonchalance of intentionally letting the back blade hang low and off to the side. The D4 in hand is surely a go-to. Cheers!

really like this knot. just that it gets harder to dimple with a thicker tie.

Yes, that is totally true. It's not great when the fabric is very thick. You might want to try the Nicky Knot instead in those situations: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHqassmvj5PHdco.html
Thank you very much for this, you might have just saved me returning two beautiful ties that are too long for my body!
so cool!
Would like to see some casual, wide legged slacks ideas for wear with black and white oxford shoes (okay don't laugh HAHA). I'm 47, a recent widower, medically retired so I don't get out much and just tired of wearing crappy clothes and shorts these days.... Found your channel tonight and looked you up. Seen you were a MSgt in the Army and that alone truly impressed me. Thanks for your service as well Brother!
Great tutorial! Did it much better than the gentleman’s gazette too!
Awesome, I was wondering what kind of knot that was for a really longtime. More of that please :)

There's actually another good variant of this knot that I usually do, where instead of pulling the long end of the tie through both loops, I only pull it through the front loop.

Eeriewolf I'm familiar but for me that takes away one of the coolest looking parts of the knot which is the double wrap.
@RalphJacob

Eeriewolf That would be the Victoria knot.
Will be wearing a navy suit with this outfit?
Is that the Rolex Datejust on a black leather strap I see? You don't see that often, very nice. The knot is nice aswell, noticed that on your blog a few times, the double loop. I don't think I've seen the skinnier blade hang off to the side though, is that something new you do?

Ace of Spades thanks for the comment! No, I usually displace it to the side a bit though it often goes back to normal over time. The watch is actually a Tudor Prince Oyster date on a black leather strap! One of the vintage watches we've got for sale in our capsule collection in the shop: shop.hespokestyle.com/collections/vintage-watches/products/tudor-prince-oysterdate-7966
Hi Brian, great video. I love the videos on "basics", just like how to tie a tie, or how to mix and match patterns/colors, what to wear for interview/date, and so on. I have a question for you. You are wearing a very spread collar that works really well with a larger knot (windsor, for istance); why don't you use a point collar for a 4 in hand knot? Thanks ;)
@hespokestyle
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and good questions. Personally, I don't think that the width of the collar spread needs to dictate the kind of knot you wear. I'm also not a big fan of fatter knots such as the Windsor. My preference is always the double four-in-hand. Cheers.

Never knew there were so many options. Chef souffle, your comment sparked me to check it out. The site below says regarding the "prince albert" that "This slightly asymmetrical, elegant tie knot is a little bulkier than the four in hand knot but is similar to the Victoria and double Windsor." I don't see the difference in approach by the diagram but interesting site. There are at least 16 other knots listed, including the wishbone, the trinity, and the onassis. knotswww.101knots.com/prince-albert-knot.html
Any suggestions on what I can do with the thin blade that is longer than the wide blade?

Alex 1611 that’s great! Thank you!
I've watched a few showing how to tie this type of knot, and, to me at least, you're the best! Thank you. One question, BTW! Why do some people hold the narrow end in their left hand, while others hold it in their right hand! Does it have to do with sinistrality!
@hespokestyle

Appreciate the compliment! Re your question, I'm not positive, but I'd wager it has to do with whether someone's right or left handed.

Great - as I'm right-handed too.
My favorite too, I do it exactly same but unfortunately most of my ties are too short to hang that low on skinny end. I try and get longer 62-63 inch ties to achieve it when I do buy nicer ties new.

This could additionally be called a psudo-wijik knot ( as in van wijik )
i'm interested in achieving the double wrap effect myself, but after you finished tying your tie, i can't really see the double wrap showing at all
Maybe go around a third time?

Chase Holloway depending on the fabric it's possible but I wouldn't recommend it - makes the knot way too thick.

What is it with erroneous American tie tutorials? You should hide the double knot.
A narrow knot with a spread collar? No.
It's too long anyway!
your tie is STILL TOO LONG
Looks stupid
That tie still looks too long on you.
