How To Tie A Double Four-In-Hand | Tie A Tie

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In today's video, I'm showing you how to tie my favorite tie knot - the double four-in-hand.
For my money, there’s no other tie knot with the same brand of style and casual ease than the double four-in-hand. It’s simple. It’s not perfectly symmetrical. And with it’s double wrap around, it’s got an element of style that you only see when you look at it more closely.
Also, as a guy with a shorter torso, that double wrap really helps “shorten” the tie a little making them not appear as if they’re too long or forcing me to tuck the narrow end into my shirt.
It’s important to note that while a double four-in-hand knot works with most ties, it does not work with all ties. This is not the knot to use with a thick wool tie as the thickness of the fabric would make the tie knot so incredibly large that it would appear utterly ridiculous.

    I’ve found this the perfect solution to tie 4 in hand with really long tie. This not only solve the problem of the smaller end ends up longer than the bigger one but also produce really great looking knot compared to normal 4 in hand.

    Sometimes if the smaller end is a little longer, I like that depending on the outfit. It's a little "I don't care" in the best possible way. Thanks for the comment.

    Brian you know me all too well. I've noticed you have been making the slim blade peak out to the side more often now. Decided to try this yesterday and now I'm In love. I must say though you achieved it much more nonchalantly than I. Took quite a bit of fidgeting to get it to stay peaked.

    Is that the Rolex Datejust on a black leather strap I see? You don't see that often, very nice. The knot is nice aswell, noticed that on your blog a few times, the double loop. I don't think I've seen the skinnier blade hang off to the side though, is that something new you do?

    Ace of Spades thanks for the comment! No, I usually displace it to the side a bit though it often goes back to normal over time. The watch is actually a Tudor Prince Oyster date on a black leather strap! Hi Brian, great video. I love the videos on "basics", just like how to tie a tie, or how to mix and match patterns/colors, what to wear for interview/date, and so on. I have a question for you. You are wearing a very spread collar that works really well with a larger knot (windsor, for istance); why don't you use a point collar for a 4 in hand knot? Thanks ;)

  • @hespokestyle

    @hespokestyle

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the comment and good questions. Personally, I don't think that the width of the collar spread needs to dictate the kind of knot you wear. I'm also not a big fan of fatter knots such as the Windsor. My preference is always the double four-in-hand. Cheers.

    Never knew there were so many options. Chef souffle, your comment sparked me to check it out. The site below says regarding the "prince albert" that "This slightly asymmetrical, elegant tie knot is a little bulkier than the four in hand knot but is similar to the Victoria and double Windsor." I don't see the difference in approach by the diagram but interesting site. There are at least 16 other knots listed, including the wishbone, the trinity, and the onassis. knotswww.101knots.com/prince-albert-knot.html

    I've watched a few showing how to tie this type of knot, and, to me at least, you're the best! Thank you. One question, BTW! Why do some people hold the narrow end in their left hand, while others hold it in their right hand! Does it have to do with sinistrality!
