How to Tie a Blood Knot for Fishing (Main Line to Leader Connection Knot)

Спорт

The blood knot is a line-to-line connection knot for tying two fishing lines together, usually main lines to leaders or backing line to main line. It can be used with other types of lines/strings/ropes as well. This video demonstrates an easy way to learn how to tie the blood knot.

That's pretty cool. I like your knot tying videos. I just need to remember how to do these in the spring. Thanks for your time and videos.

I've always used the double uni knot for braid to leader connections, and I've never had a problem. Easy to tie and never had one fail. It works for me.

Yep, I use that one too. I think the blood knot is more streamlined so if I have a really long leader that will be going in and out of my rod guides, I'll use something like a blood knot, FG, or albright knot over the double uni.

I use an FG to leader on shore, leaving plenty to cut and retie on a few rods. On the water, if I end up having to retie a leader, I usually use a double uni, because its way easier to tie under adverse conditions, and I also already have it in muscle memory because its also my snug knot. I try to keep things simple like that. As a result, I haven't tied a blood knot in probably 10 years, but it's a great knot to have in the arsenal. It's both easy to tie AND goes through guides a lot better than a double uni. If I had to tie leader on in the field more frequently, the blood knot would probably replace the double uni. I just don't want to rely on a knot that I don't use enough to maintain muscle memory.

I've found that for braid, I need 10-14 wraps for 15lb braid. I used to think blood knots didn't work w braid, but I just didn't wrap enough.

Thanks for the comment. Light braided lines are very slippery. If it pulls out of the knot, it probably just needs a few more wraps.

And if you cross them at the beginning tag ends pointing up instead of down works pretty well too just have to loop everything the oppsites of what you did .
