How To Test a UTV/ATV Stator

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Stators play a crucial part in starting and powering your machine, but how can you tell if it is bad or not? In this video we demonstrate how to test to see if your OEM Stator needs replaced or if it's just time for a new electrical component causing the problem. When troubleshooting your electrical components, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC has got you covered.

Greetings, everything is well explained, thank you for posting, is realy helpful. namely, I have a problem with my Tuono rv4, the stator burned and I had to buy a new stator, so when I was already changing the stator, I also bought a regulator. I changed everything properly, but no voltage comes out of the stator during the test. I tried to test according to your instructions, I don't have such a voltmeter, but I figured it out on mine, I tried everything but it doesn't charge my battery and I'm already a bit crazy.

Hello from Cancun Mexico, please i need advise On checking my stator, working on a 2005 Honda Varadero 1000 , did my static test and the service mannual says I should have 0.3 to 0.5 ohms but my stator reads 1.7 on all three Phases. The dynamic test I did at 1000 rpm 24 Volts AC At 5000 rpm 65 volts and at 6000 rpm 100 volts AC if you can help me please I already burned 3 regulators , thank you very much....

Well i have a artic cat from a friend im working on the rectifier burned the stators wires but still ran when i hard wired it back together when i replaced the rectifier it stoped running before hand i think the rectifier fried the stator it was 1.5 ohms under 1 ohm spec but the brain i think wont let it spark without a working stator is that bad 1.5 ohms its 3 yellow single phase

I am assuming if you are able to do a dynamic test of voltage output from the stator with it disconnected it is not a component needed to achieve spark? Only sending AC power to the voltage rectifier and then charging the battery? I am not able to start my Polaris 570 Sportsman engine turns over but no spark. Only test that has failed so far is the Crankshaft Position Sensor which I have on order. ohms tested 1000 on the three yellow leads coming off the stator nothing on the CPS sensor. That is where I am starting. Don't want to have to remove the coolant and and stator cover yet but I was wondering if I could figure out if the woodruf key sheared by checking voltage by turning over the engine with the starter obviously without spark I cant get it running but thought if the key was intact I would see a small voltage gain at the yellow leads when I turn over the engine? If the key is sheared no voltage should show, if its intact I should see something as I assume the magnetic flywheel spins when you use the starter?

Great video!! I've tested my stator a million times passed the static test but on the reading it fluctuated a lot it wouldn't give me an exact decimal it fluctuated between 0.6 and 1 on the dynamic test at idle it was 20 volts AC at 3,000 RPMs. It was putting out 60 volts AC so I thought my stator is good it keeps passing the test . But my VRRs keep failing and the last one got so hot it melted the plugin from the stator and I know a bad plugins can cause it to heat up because of the connection. But this connection was good right full of dielectric grease I even added a couple extra grounds new battery that can be a cause of a failed VRR I have gone through three and the previous owner had put one in it I haven't any extra accessories I'm really stumped here any info would be greatly appreciated 16 RzR 1000 turbo

Great video! Hope you can help on this issue: A few days ago, while riding my SYM VS 125, a lot of smoke started coming out of the front of the bike and the engine started to fail. I turned off the ignition and cut the battery current. At home I took it apart to see what was going on and the rectifier was visibly burnt. I took the bike to a workshop where they changed the rectifier and the battery, but they didn't solve the problem. The new rectifier continues to heat up a lot and too fast, as if something is short circuiting. As they couldn't solve the problem and it still cost me a few €€, I picked up the motorcycle with the fault. Tests i have done: - the battery is new and has 13.1V before the starter - with the three yellow wires from the stator connected to the rectifier, the bike works fine at low revs, fails at medium and the rectifier heats up uncontrollably; with these wires disconnected from the rectifier, the bike works well at any speed, but as we know, the battery is not charged - at idle the 3 yellow wires measure about 40V from stator - the resistant test on stator show equal values on three wires; no ground conductivity; no open circuit on each coil - apparently all the masses are well connected. Any idea what it could be causing this recurrent failure of the rectifier? Note: traditional G6Y carburetor engine with electronic rectifier and CDI, year 2010.

if i get a high reading when measuring the sensor and ground and the position sensor is done can there be a spark at all? if cdi is powered by battery? and first i thought the stator windings were torn but its only this thin yllow isolation wire that is ripped on one side. does that mean anything?

hi,i want ask that those all 3 white wires what goes from stator to rectifier, does it matter what stator white goes to recrifier white,or those ase same how you connect, just what ever white to white,if not have couplin anymore and wires was connected by sugar cube connector?

Can you confirm this for me? I have a polaris youth outlaw 50. The 3 stator wires are different colors. All three of those wire when tested to ground show resistance. This means it's bad right? But the new replacement is the same way. And is this a single phase?

Great videos! I have an 07 kjng quad that when i test the stator it tests .2ohms but the service manual specs .4ohm to 1.0 ohms. The ac output is within spec of 85 to 90v at 5000 rpm. How can this be? Ive replaced the regulator/rectifier already. And it gets too hot to even touch it! The quad still shuts off randomly, but im thinking its because of the regulator. Any ideas? Thanks for the awesome how to videos! I get 90 percent of my parts from you guys!

It doesn't matter. Start from left to right and give them numbers. The numbers are just to help you stay organized and make sure each wire gets tested with the others. They are all connected, so you are just checking that there is low resistance between all of them, and that they are insulated from ground. -Charles
