HOW TO TEST A BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A boost pressure is found along the boost pressure pipe. It measures turbo charger boost so that the engine is not damaged by too much of boost. It incorporates an NTC temperature sensor. If this sensor is not working right the engine goes into limp home mode. if there is too much boost the engine ECU shuts down the engine to protect it from damage. This sensor will not work if it is clogged by oil and soot therefore a visual inspection is needful. You can test the boost pressure sensor with a multimeter or the oscilloscope. It is normally a 5 volt sensor.

How can I determine if a sensor is turbo boost pressure or a MAP sensor, would it be based on voltage reference?

Hello Jamroz. I hope You can help me. I have check the voltage of Turbo boost sensor. And if the plug is unpluged I, have 5Volt to boost pressure, but if the plug is plugged on I get 0 Volt to boost pressure. Will be the turbo boost sensor damaged?

Great information, but how would I prove that the sensor is faulty? That’s the only part I don’t get Will I just have no voltage to the signal wire?

There are so many ways to prove a sensor is faulty. Let me say you need a workshop manual for guidance. The best way to judge a faulty sensor is to check its signal against specification like ones I gave in the video. I will create a video to discuss your question at some stage. Thank you for your valid comment

if the boost pressure sensor is not working, the engine goes into limp mode. Your turbo will not do much My fear is what could happen if the engine is getting extra fuel say from oil going into the combastion chamber which could cause the turbo to runaway. otherwise it should be ok

Disconnected, just checking boost signal is 0v which from ECU? Continuity is fine. Rest of are fine. Just boost pressure signal is showing 0v.what could be issues. New ECU.

Thank you for your support. if i understood your question well. you don't have a signal. i am suspecting that you have a shot to ground. disconnect both sides of the signal wire and connect your ohmmeter to one end of the wire and another end to the ground preferably the battery negative. let me know the results you get

The signal wire is your yardstick for checking the integrity of the sensor. If the ecu is providing power and you ha good ground the sensor should give a signal upto a volt at koeo. Autodata is a good guide. I do not like to rely on resistance I would rather check voltage drop instead

Unfortunately, Pin 4 signal wire has 0.00 volts. I have continuity between the sensor connector and the ECU harness. If I check the continuity to ground pins 2 and 3 have higher continuity (300 when set to 2000k) to ground than pin 4 (550 when set to 2000k). Does this mean the ECU is bad?

it appears like your signal wire is shorted. disconnect it on both sides. connect your ohmmeter on one side of the wire and connect the other side to a ground. OL or 1 means not short to ground but if you get a reading you have a short
